People at Last! - Damien
Okay, it's finally time. We've got everyone here. Everything is straightened out with the afterlife stuff, it's been a few weeks since we got Ava and Ariel back. It's time. We're going to add people to our new world.
Aaron and I are standing side by side in front of our tiny fountain. We've made a large screen above us so that the others can watch. We look at each other and I put my hand into the water. I pick a random spot on our beautiful little globe and touch my finger into its ocean. It's just like how our humans started. I swirl the water a bit and a single cell materializes before our eyes.
I take my hand out and put it on the side of the fountain. Aaron puts his own hand onto the other side. He speeds the time along as the cell multiplies. Soon there are animals with hundreds of cells that are forming. I keep my hand on the fountain's side. I use just enough of my power to shape how they form. Just to give them a true shape as they start to become real.
It's so beautiful. I can't believe we're really doing this. My creations. Our creations. I love them so much. I'm so proud. Our children. I love them so much. I feel just the slightest hint of tears in my eyes mixed with the huge smile on my face. Soon they're ready to come onto the land. Good, now a few dinosaurs for them to find later down the line. It's such a shame that they'll have to go.
Soon enough, it's time for the asteroid. It comes and is over quickly. Wow. There are at least a few left in there that are alive. That'll definitely give the humans a fright when they find those things. Besides, I couldn't destroy all of my creatures. They're too perfect for that. Occasionally another god will step forward to put their own hand onto the fountain and add their own touches to the creatures we're making.
It's time for the humans now, or at least what will become humans. The monkeys slowly evolve. Soon enough, they're fully human. They're so beautiful. I love them so much. Aaron slows down the time now. We get to watch what actually happens. He still keeps it on fast forward though. At least until we're able to talk to them.
Slowly they start to figure out weapons, tools, clothes, and shelter. Soon there are real buildings mixed in too. Aaron stops speeding it up now. They've got language and have started to find new places to explore. They're ready for us now. I wipe away a tear and turn to face the rest of the gods.
"My fellow gods," I say, "We have just witnessed the birth of the next race of humans. I hope you all love them just as much as I do. Now you are free to speak with them and travel between our worlds as you please. All we ask in return is that you take care of these people and whatever part of their world you've decided to be the god of. Just enjoy. I couldn't be more proud of what we've made and I hope you all love it just as much."
The fountain grows to a much larger size and everyone comes to look directly into it for themselves. I feel a bit better as I see the tears of joy and pride in the eyes of several other gods and goddesses. I look at Aaron and he smiles at me. I can tell he feels the same as I do. We don't have to go down to it right now. We can wait a bit until the others have had some time. Although, maybe we should.
I suppose it would be good for them to meet their head gods first. Maybe we should have a spot down on earth, just for the gods. Maybe something like Mount Olympus was in ancient Greece.
It would be nice to spend some time down there where we could watch what's happening more closely.
I look at Aaron to ask him about this and he looks up at me with pride. Before I can start he tells me what needs to be done.
"Are you ready to go meet our people?" he asks.
I smile bigger and feel my pride grow even more.
"Yeah, I'm ready. Let's go."
He takes my hand and we both step into the pool of water. Luckily the people haven't moved too far outside of their places. Aaron leans over to me and whispers in my ear.
"I've made it so that all of the people will be able to see and hear us no matter where they are."
I nod at him and we look out at the small city that's starting to form before us.
"Greetings humans," he says, beaming, "We are your gods. My name is Aaron, god of time, and this is Damien, leader of the gods and god of creation. We're happy to be introducing ourselves to you beautiful people."
"I just want to tell you that we couldn't be more proud that you guys are finally ready to know of our existence," I say, "Enjoy this new world that we've laid out for you. We love you so much. There will be several other gods and goddesses that introduce themselves over time. Welcome them as well. We are here to help you and will come down whenever you genuinely need us. For now, good luck my esteemed citizens. The world is your oyster. Enjoy every bit of it and know that you have gods that truly love you. Goodbye."
I take Aaron's hand again and we go back up to the garden. The other gods are still gathered around our fountain and cheer and clap for us when we return. For a moment they stand in awe of what has been created. Then some go down into the fountain to say their own piece. A few are content to watch for now. The old woman named Matilda and her husband, Thomas stay up here to watch.
I stay with Aaron for a while and we watch several of the gods introduce themselves and how the people react. It's so amazing.
"Hey, do you wanna maybe make a place for us down on earth?" I say.
"Yeah, soon, but not right now. We should wait and see where the people decide to settle mostly."
"Hmph, now who's putting stuff off?"
"Oh, hush. We've got a place to work in for now, we can watch from there until it's time to make ourselves a place down on earth. Besides, if we do that, everyone will have to be able to work from there, not just us."
"They'll love it."
"Not yet, they're not ready."
"What if we made a portal to the garden and put it on that world?" I say.
"Where would we put it? And in any case, we don't need it."
"Maybe at the top of a mountain. It would be more convenient for us. What if someone needed to get back up here and couldn't for some reason? What if we needed to bring a human up here for some reason? Or even if we didn't bring them here, it would be a great place to meet them."
"Yeah, alright. We'll start on it in a little while when we can get everyone back here to talk about it together and see what everyone wants."
"Yes! Do you think the people will make temples for us?"
"They probably will. That'd be so great. Can you imagine a temple dedicated to us?" he says.
"They'll be able to pray to us in there too."
"Do you think we made a good first impression?"
"Of course we did," I say.
Didn't we?
"I hope they like us," he says.
"Me too."
We stand and watch for a bit longer and slowly, one by one, the other gods start to come back up. Most of them don't leave immediately. They stare down in awe at this beautiful thing we've made, that they just got a chance to visit.
Finally, I count the people and everyone's here. We all watch peacefully as night falls on both the garden and our new world. The people are starting to go to sleep, but a few stay out and watch the stars we made for them. We look down lovingly at them, and they stare up at us with a new appreciation for where their sky came from. I wonder if they know that we're watching them from up here. I hope they do.
I see Aaron step away from the fountain a bit and I follow suit.
"My fellow gods," I say, "Damien and I are considering a new palace of sorts to put on our new world. It would let us all live down there. We'd still be a bit separate from the people, but we could be close to them. The other option we thought of was to just put a portal from their world into the garden on top of a mountain somewhere. We just need to decide what we should do. We definitely want to have at least one of these things. We just wanted to wait for all of you to get back so we could make a decision together about what to do, because this affects all of us."
"What do you guys think?" Aaron says.
