Seven
"Surprise Dickiebird" Jason grumbled unenthusiastically, to which he got an elbow to the ribs by both Damian and Tim.
The boys were standing in the middle of the Wayne movie room, blankets and pillows laid out across the floor as well as several bowls of popcorn.
"What's all of this?" Dick stuck his hands in his jean pockets anxiously.
I held up movies he'd always talked about missing while we were trapped with Slade and again when we were on the run. "Me and the boys thought it would be a good idea to get your mind off things for a while"
We'd been dodging heroes for two weeks, mainly avoiding Barry and Megan, though they only seemed to want to talk to Dick if it was to chew him out for 'what he'd done'.
Hal Jordan and Oliver Queen weren't much better either.
"You guys planned this all for me?" Dick looked like he was on the verge of tears.
"It was more Drake and Keeper" Damian admitted with a shrug. "We were threatened to go along with it."
Jason nodded once, a grimace on his face. "Violently" he confirmed.
Tim crossed his arms "not my fault. I wanted to use blackmail but Keeper was like 'let's just threaten to murder them'." He pitched his voice in a weak imitation of me.
"That's not what happened" I rolled my eyes. "But Tim did blackmail your brothers"
Dick laughed, joining us on our blanket and pillow monstrosity. "This means a lot to me."
"Just kiss her already" Jason groaned. "Stop making us all suffer through you both not knowing that you're practically dating"
"You're gross Todd" I pointed at him before settling in a spot I claimed as my own, throwing my legs over Dick's the second he was seated. "We're not dating and we don't have those kinds of feelings for each other"
Dick voiced his agreement before shoving a handful of popcorn in his mouth. "You're just jealous I have a best friend"
Jason rolled his eyes, shoving Tim out of where he'd been sitting before sending us both the middle finger.
"Real mature Jason" Dick grinned.
Damian and Tim sat next to each other begrudgingly as we all settled in for the movie. We only watched ten minutes before it was interrupted by a very irritated Damian. "Drake, I insist you get your own bowl of popcorn"
"It'd be fine if you didn't hog the entire thing!" Tim tried to rip the silver bowl out of his little brother's hands. "If you ever learned to share this would be so much easier"
Jason watched the argument in interest, eating his own popcorn with an amused smile. Occasionally he'd throw a kernel or two at the fighting pair, just to irritate them more.
Dick gave a long suffering sigh, though he also watched the interaction, a softer, more relieved smile on his face. "Boys, just share or get another bowl"
"No way, this is too entertaining to watch" Jason piped in with a few good punching tips.
"What's going on in here?" the five of us froze as Bruce Wayne stood over us, his hands on his hips with Alfred behind him.
"Drake started it" Damian immediately pointed toward Tim, clutching the silver bowl to his chest.
"I did not!" Tim looked ready to punch Damian, and he probably would've if it weren't for Bruce standing right there.
"We were trying to have a movie night" I explained sheepishly. Tim and I hadn't exactly asked.
"If Drake would get his own bowl we wouldn't have this issue" Damian eyed his brother.
"Fine!" Tim rolled his eyes, moving the grab the popcorn bowl that sat not five feet away. "Happy?"
"Absolutely" Damian shot back.
"Unbelievable" Tim scoffed.
Jason just laughed, shoving his own popcorn in his mouth.
"They will never accept you into their family" Father's voice picked through the noise. I clenched my jaw, trying to ignore him. "You can't even keep Dickie. How do you think real heroes are going to deal with you. Tim can hardly stand you since he's learned the truth."
I buried my face in Dick's shoulder. Why hadn't the voices gone away? It'd been two months since I'd been trapped in The Room. They should be gone by now.
"Yet here I am" Father laughed, cruel and mocking. "Does Dick know how crazy you are? Maybe I left you in The Room for too long this last time" his voice got closer. "You're a fool to think they'd ever accept you"
Maybe he's right.
"Hey!" Dick broke through the muffled sounds, why was he yelling? "Answer me please"
When I blinked I realized I was laying on the floor, my entire body shaking. "What happened?"
"That's what I was hoping you could tell me?" Dick helped me sit up carefully. "Was it him?"
"Yeah" I admitted, looking around the room, but it was empty, save for me and Dick. How long has I been out?
"How long has this been happening?"
I stared at my lap, fidgeting with my hands. "Since I escaped"
"Maddie that was two months ago. They don't usually last this long" he whisper shouted.
"I know" I responded in kind.
"And it's just been him?"
"No" I folded my legs beneath me. "Sometimes it's you, but only when you're not with me. The worst is when they team up"
"Oh, Maddie." Dick pulled me close, resting his head on mine. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"I thought they'd go away" I mumbled, fighting the tears that'd gathered. "They didn't."
"But this is true first time you've lost consciousness?"
"Yes, that's weird that I did"
"What I wouldn't give to talk to Dinah right now." Dick sighed. "I think it's just a mental thing, like you've let them in subconsciously so you've just been seeing them."
"That's the thing" I pulled back. "Most of the time I just hear them, I haven't seen either in a good long while"
"Give me some time and I'll figure it out, promise" he kissed the top of my head. "I'm going to save you Maddie"
