A couple of months have passed. Mouse returned to deployment. It has been a long day at work, Elizabeth is just returning home. As soon as she walks through the door, Aaron runs up to her. 

'Mommy.' He squeals. As he hugs her. 

'Hey, baby.' Elizabeth smiles as she ruffles her hair. Ella, the nanny walks up to them. 'Hey.' Elizabeth smiles.

'He wouldn't go to bed until you were home.' Ella tells her.

'That's fine.' Elizabeth laughs.

'Harper is out like a light.' Ella adds as she takes her coat off the hook. 'I'll see you tomorrow, Aaron.' 

'Bye.' Aaron waves at her as he steps back from his mom. Ella puts her coat on and leaves, closing the door behind her.

'Come on then, mister, time for bed.' Elizabeth tells Aaron.

'But-' Aaron starts to say.

'No buts.' Elizabeth says sternly. 'You've already stayed up way past your bedtime.' She adds. 'C'mon.' She takes her coat off and hangs it up. 'Go and get into your PJs and get ready to brush your teeth.' 

'Fine.' Aaron sighs. He slowly walks to his bedroom. Elizabeth laughs under her breath before walking through to the master bedroom. She walks to the safe on the wall, opens it and puts her gun and badge in it. She closes it and locks it before walking through to the nursery. She puts the lamp on and looks into the cot.

'Hey, baby.' She whispers as she strokes Harper's cheek. Seeing that her daughter is peacefully sleeping, she turns the lamp off, walks out and to the bathroom. Aaron is already stood on his stool, brushing his teeth. 'Good boy.' Elizabeth smiles. Once Aaron has finished brushing his teeth, he puts his toothbrush cap on and puts it back in the holder. 

'Mommy.' Aaron turns to Elizabeth. 'Is daddy going to be shouting tonight again?' Elizabeth thinks for a moment. 

'No.' Elizabeth forces a smile.

'He's been shouting a lot. It scares me.' Aaron says. 

'I know.' Elizabeth sighs. 'But don't worry. Daddy is just stressed from work.' 

'Is he angry at me?' Aaron asks.

'No, sweetie. No, of course, he isn't.' Elizabeth puts her hands on his upper arms. 'He could bever be mad at you. Ever.' 

'Is he mad at you?' Aaron queries. Elizabeth swallows.

'No.' She shakes her head. 'It's getting late, you should get to bed.' She kisses the top of his head. 'Goodnight, darling.' 

'Night mommy.' Aaron hugs her before stepping down from the stool. He walks out of the bathroom and to his bedroom. After a few minutes, Elizabeth starts getting ready to settle down for the evening.

The next day, Elizabeth is walking up the stairs into the Intelligence bullpen with a coffee in her hand. She sets her coffee down, takes her jacket off and hangs it over the back of the chair before sitting down. Jay looks up at her. 

'What happened?' He asks. 'You have a bruise on your cheekbone.' Elizabeth puts her hand to where the bruise is, realising that she was in such a rush to leave, that she forgot to put make-up on. 'Liza?' 

'Aaron left some of his toys lying around last night. I tripped on one of them.' Elizabeth lies, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

'Are you-' Jay starts to ask but is interrupted by Voight.

'Halstead, Maxwell, we have a rape victim and perpetrator at Med. I want you two to go down and speak to both of them.' Voight tells them. 

'On it.' They both nod.

Walking into Med, they are taken to Sharon's office. 

'Detective Halstead, Detective Maxwell.' Sharon nods as they all sit down around the table. 'Our victim is a college sophomore. She was running through campus early this morning when she was attacked. She was dragged behind a bush and beaten quite badly unless she was knocked unconscious. The perpetrator then continued to rape her. Another female jogger saw what was going on and fought the perpetator off the girl.' Sharon explains. 

'How bad are the injuries?' Jay asks. 

'They're not serious.' Sharon shakes her head. 'The woman that helped the girl is sat in with her. The girl won't let any males in the room.' Elizabeth and Jay look at each other.

'I guess I'll go and speak to the girl.' She tells him. He nods in agreement and they both turn their attention back to Sharon.

The girl is in the ICU, the perpetrator is in the ED.' Sharon informs them.

'I'll meet you back in the ED in half hour?' Jay suggests and Elizabeth nods.

Walking onto the ICU floor, Elizabeth is greeted by Natalie. 

'Hi, Liza.' Natalie smiles. 'I take it you're here to speak to the rape patient.' 

'Yeah.' Liza nods.

'She's in room 4. Her name is Rosie Murphy.' Natalie replies.

'Thanks.' Elizabeth nods gratefully before walking to the room. She knocks on the door frame and walks in. Rosie, who was talking with the woman helped her, looks at her.  'Hi, Miss Murphy. My name is Detective Maxwell. I need to ask you some questions about what happened this morning.'

'Of course.' Rosie nods. 'Only if Lucy can stay with me.' She looks at the woman.

'That's fine.' Elizabeth nods. 'I'll have to speak to you anyway.' She adds, looking at Lucy.

Half an hour later, Elizabeth has finished asking Rosie and Lucy the neccesary questions and is now waiting in the ED for Jay. She's stood waiting at the nurse's station when Callum walks out of the doctor's lounge. 

'Callum?' She asks confused as she walks over to him. 

'Hey, babe.' He smiles. He then notices the bruise on her face. 'Did I do that?' He puts his hand on the side of her face and runs his thumb over it. 'Babe, I am so sorry, I don't know what came over. I'll make it up to you, I promise.' He drops his hand. 

'I thought you weren't in work today.' Elizabeth says.

'I was called in.' Callum responds. 'Three residents called in sick.' He continues. 'What brings you here?' 

'A case.' Elizabeth tells him. 'Jay and I came to question a couple of questions.' She replies. As if on cue, Jay joins them. 

'Jay.' Callum nods at him. 

'Callum.' Jay nods back. 

'We'll let you get back to work.' Elizabeth tells Callum. 'I'll see you tonight.' Callum goes to kiss her but she moves her head so that the kiss lands on her cheek and not her lips. 

'Bye.' Callum smiles. Jay and Callum nod at each other before Callum returns to work and Jay and Elizabeth walk out of the ED.

Once Jay and Elizabeth are in the car, Jay turns to his friend. 

'What was that with Callum?' He questions. 

'What?' Elizabeth asks confused. 

'You avoided his kiss.' Jay clarifies. 

'We're working.' Elizabeth dismisses him. 

'That hasn't stopped you two before.' Jay points out. 'Is everything okay between you two?' 

'Everything's fine.' Elizabeth nods.

'Are you sure?' Jay makes sure.

'Yep.' Elizabeth nods unconvincingly. 'We better get back to the district.' She adds before Jay can say anything more.

It's the end of the shift. Jay and Elizabeth are walking out of the district. 

'You coming to Molly's?' Jay asks her. 

'Sure.' Elizabeth nods. 'I just need to go and do something so I'll meet you there in about an hour.' 

'Okay.' Jay nods. 'I'll see you then.' 

.

Fifteen minutes later, Elizabeth is walking up to a reception desk at Lake Shore Hospital. 

'Hi, how can I help?' The receptionist asks. 

'My name is Elizabeth Maxwell. I have an appointment.' Elizabeth says. The receptionist looks at her computer and a minute later, looks back up at Elizabeth. 

'If you take a seat, someone will call for you shortly.' The receptionist replies.

'Thanks.' Elizabeth smiles slightly. She walks to the chairs and sits down. 

Ten minutes later, she is called into one of the exam rooms by one of the doctors. They walk into the exam room and the doctor closes the door behind them.

'If you just take a seat on the exam bed for me.' The doctors tells her. Elizabeth does as she's told and the doctor sits in her chair and wheels herself over to the bed. 'My name is Doctor Emily O'Connor, I'll be completely your exam today. I understand you've come in for an ultrasound after a positive pregnancy test.' 

'Yeah.' Elizabeth sighs and nods.
