Chapter 14: On Record
A/N:
Hello again.
But no worries.
It's a simple glitch and doesn't really hold a candle to more important things that's going on.
xoxo :)

"That woman is exasperating. Arghhh!" I raised my hands pretending it was closing in on someone's neck.
We were all in the Red Rum and I was sandwich between them.
It had been a long and very eventful day.
Daig ko pa ang nagshooting ng isang episode for a TV drama.
Pagpasok ko sa pinto, my phone rang.
It was Neri.
She was stunned at the turn of events.
But unlike her who found Maria's action hilarious, I was pissed.
"Buti nga sa waiter na iyon."
"What are you talking about?" I switched the phone to my left ear while trying to untie my shoelaces.
"That guy is rude. I'm actually happy na inaway siya ni Maria. May attitude kasi yung guy na natatawa when you butchered the words. Buti nga sa kanya." She laughed.
"Pero, Neri, we are regulars at that restaurant. Kilala na nila tayo, alam na nila ang usual orders natin. Nakakahiya ang ginawa ni Maria."
"To be honest, I'd be happy not to go to Domenico's. When they changed management, they fired the wait staff who are really good with customer service. Pinalitan nila ng mas bata who I don't think cared for their jobs. I hope this guy gets fired."
"Don't say that. We don't even know this guy's situation."
"Kaya nagalit sa'yo si Maria eh. You're taking the wrong side."
"I didn't take sides."
"Yes you did."
I lifted my hand to pet Maico on the head while Rico licked my face.
I patted his head then took a tissue from the side table to wipe his drool off my face.
"You shouldn't have said anything. Maria may be poor but she's not stupid. From what I can see based on the days na nakasama natin siya, she sees people for who they really are. I think it's refreshing na she speaks what's on her mind."
"But she has no regard for decorum."
"I get that but in this case, I don't really care either. The guy had it coming. I was glad it happened today and I was there to witness it."
When I didn't say anything, she said she has to go.
Also, she's looking forward to eating steak for breakfast.
"I still don't understand why mainit ang ulo niya sa akin. Ngayon lang kami nagkakilala but I get the feeling that she's out for my blood."
I stared directly at the camera.
"While we were at Jollibee, she commented about me knowing how to pisa the kalamansi. God! Who does she think I am? The queen of England? Of course I know how to eat my palabok and do the simple thing of squeezing it. Hindi naman ako invalid ano?" Nahigh blood ako as I recalled the incident kanina.
"I was getting so mad that I told her I'm not sorry I was born into a rich family. Totoo naman eh. Why should I be sorry? I didn't choose to be a part of the Obregon's. Sure there are days when I wished I wasn't one of them lalo na during family gatherings but for the most part, I'm happy I belong to this family. There are more good things than bad. I know that most of them have my back. They celebrate my success and those that I'm close to like Mommy Chato, she's the first one to come to my rescue."
I smiled when I said that.
"I don't know what Maria's deal is when it comes to money but she shouldn't rub it in my face. She has to learn how to behave dahil with the script she wrote and sold, she entered a different world."
I paused to take a breath when the phone rang.
I had to fish it from under Rico bago ko nasagot.
The number was unknown and I wasn't going to answer it but it could be important.
I said hello and the voice that came on was familiar.
"Why are you calling?" I asked, still annoyed.
"Ang sungit mo naman."
"Maria, what do you want?"
"Gusto ko lang magthank you sa paghatid mo sa akin pati na din sa chicken na binili mo para kay Henry."
"Okay." I replied, disinterested.
I shouldn't have answered the phone.
Uminit lalo ang pakiramdam ko.
My pulse was racing and I was slowly getting into a fighting mode kahit pa I sensed from the calmness of her voice that she didn't call to pick a fight.
"Gusto ko ding mag-sorry."
Tumaas ang kilay ko.
"What did you say?"
"Narinig mo naman eh."
"No. I did not." It was my turn to do what she did to me kanina noong hinahabol ko siya.
"Sorry na nga."
"Which part are you apologizing for?"
"Iyong part na nasa Jollibee tayo at sinabi mo sa akin na meron akong issue sa pera."
"Ah. That part."
"Tama ka naman eh."
I leaned back on the couch and stroked Maico's head.
She started purring.
"Hindi mo nga kasalanan na mayaman ka. Hindi ko din kasalanan na mahirap ako. Pero meron tayong magagawa."
"Anong gagawin natin?"
"Huwag mong ipamukha ang yaman mo at ganoon din ang gagawin ko."
"I can't promise that."
"Pero pwede mong subukan di ba?"
Is she proposing a truce?"
"Kyle, ganyan ka na at ganito na din ako. Pero hindi ibig sabihin, hindi tayo pwedeng magmeet halfway. Ang sabi ng kaibigan ko, mabait ka daw. Medyo."
I shook my head at that because she was clearly judging me again.
"What do you propose we do?"
"Marami akong hindi alam sa mga lugar na pinupuntahan ninyo ni Neri. Kung hindi ako familiar, magtatanong ako. Huwag mo lang akong pagtawanan."
"Why would I do that?"
"Ewan ko. Feeling ko kasi iyan ang ginagawa ng mga mayayamang tao."
"Or maybe, that's the one you see on TV or the movies."
Hindi siya sumagot.
"I'm not that kind of person. Okay. I'm not perfect but I certainly won't embarrass you for my own entertainment. You should get to know me. Maybe you'll like what you see."
I mentally face palmed.
It sounded like I'm on a date and trying to win her over.
What the hell am I doing?
"Sige. Mabuti pa nga siguro. Ceasefire muna. Good night na."
"Okay. Good night."
She hung up and I was left staring at the phone.
When I looked up, I realized the red light was still on.
The camera was still recording and our conversation was captured live on my v-log.
