Chapter 7: Short Shorts

Easton's POV

I stared at my phone, reading the latest text my ex had sent me.

'I miss you so much, please come home. I made a mistake.'

I deleted the message, just as I had done to all the other 50 texts she had sent me throughout last week. Tina and I were so over. Just thinking about her made my insides crawl. I had been with Tina for over four years. We were living together and we had a pretty solid, steady relationship. That was until I came home from work and saw her making out with my best friend on the living room couch.

I had gone grocery shopping after work and had bought lots of snacks, thinking that we could curl up on the couch and watch a movie together. The grocery bags dropped to the floor with a thud, which got their attention. Tina fell to the floor, while my friend Kim was stone cold frozen.

"I can explain," Tina stammered while starting to crawl closer to me. I was ready to throw up right there. I backed away towards the door with my hands in the air. My friend Kim had managed to pull himself together and was now standing.

"I'm so sorry man," He said while putting on his jacket. He didn't look sorry at all.

"How long has this been going on?" I asked both of them. Neither one replied, they both stared at the floor with guilty looks on their faces.

"Answer me!" I yelled, losing my temper.

"Six months..." Tina piped up from the floor.

I suddenly saw her in a new light. All the times she had to stay late at work, or all the times she had been out with her friends. Had she really been with her friends at all?

I sighed and sat down on my bed, trying to get the image of my ex-girlfriend and my ex-best friend out of my head. This week has been hard, and I was thankful that James had given me a safe haven here so that I was able to deal with my emotions. I thought that Tina and I would stay together forever. I moved in with her thinking that this was the real deal. How wrong I had been.

There was a faint knock on my door, and I went to open it. Isabelle was standing outside, she had her hair braided to the right, and was wearing an Avenger T-shirt that looked badass on her. She matched it with a pair of silken shorts that fit her perfectly. Her face was makeup-free and I could see a faint trail of freckles on her nose. She looked really cute. I blinked, because what the heck was I thinking?

"I'm sorry to disturb you this late..." she started.

"It's fine, what do you want?" I asked her.

"Well, my charger isn't working, do you think I would borrow yours?"

"Depends on what kind of phone you have," I replied.

She waved her phone in the air, and I could see that it was an iPhone.

"Well, you're in luck," I answered as I went to look for the charger. Except, I couldn't find it. I stood in front of my drawer, thinking where I could have put it when I heard Isabelle yell "Found it, it's under the bed!".

"Thank you for letting me borrow it, I'll return it tomorrow if that's okay." She said.

"Yeah, sure. Is there anything else you need?" I asked her.

"No, I'm fine," she said while chewing on her bottom lip. Something she always did when she was around me. I'm pretty sure that I make her nervous. Especially after what happened tonight with the way I held her gaze as Ava and I were getting cozy together. I had been surprised to see her in the hallway, watching us. She didn't look away or hide when I spotted her as I thought she would, instead she kept my gaze.

"So... I should probably go," Isabelle said while tucking a piece of hair that had fallen out of her braid behind her ear. She backed away from me, waiving the charger in her hand while thanking me again for letting her borrow it.

"Anytime," I said before the door closed and I was alone. I went to bed that night feeling oddly restless.

"Come on man, you have to!"

I sighed. My friend Oliver came over this morning to check on me. He had somehow heard about my breakup with Tina and wanted to make sure I was alright. He also wanted to let me know that he's having a party tonight. No surprise there, since he's having a party almost every weekend.

"I don't really feel like partying," I told him, which was the truth. It's been a rough week for me and all I really want to do is crash on the couch and watch Game Of Thrones. But knowing how persistent Oliver can be, I'm sure that won't be happening tonight.

Isabelle suddenly entered the kitchen, wearing only a pair of shorts and a small tank top. She must've just taken a shower because her hair was all wet and she was drying the lengths with a towel.

She looked at me, and then she looked at Oliver with a confused look on her face.

"This is my friend Oliver. Oliver, this is Isabelle."

"Hi, nice to meet you," Isabelle said and they shook hands. Oliver turned and grinned at me. "Nice" he mouthed. I punched his shoulder and he whimpered in surprise.

"Hey, that hurt!" he snarled, and I rolled my eyes.

"Uhm, I was just gonna get something to drink, don't mind me," Isabelle said and made her way to the fridge.

I couldn't help but stare at her as she tried to reach the milk that was on the top shelf.

"Are you done?"

"Huh?" I turned around and saw Oliver smirking.

"Uh, I was just -"

"Checking her out," he whispered for my ears only. A grin appeared on his face when I didn't reply. I gave him a stare that meant 'cut this shit out or I will cut you'.

"Anyway, I'll pick you up at eight. Be dressed and ready, this party is going to be lit! There's going to be free booze and strobe lights.

I sighed, he never listened to me. "I told you, I don't want -"

"A party?" Isabelle interrupted. She was standing right behind us, holding a glass of milk in her hand.

"Yep! Wanna come?" Oliver asked her, causing her to instantly lights up like the sun.

"No, no, no. Belle is not going to your party, are you out of your mind?" I called out. Oliver furrowed his brows and rubbed his chin while Isabelle looked ready to pour her drink all over me. I turned to Oliver.

"She's not old enough to drink, Isabelle is staying home," I told him firmly. There's no way I'm letting her go to Oliver's party tonight. I don't personally care if she's drinking or not, but I knew that James does. He still sees her as his little innocent girl, and I'm going to make sure it stays that way.

"Whatever you say, man. I need to go, I'll pick you up tonight!" Oliver said before leaving.

Isabelle's POV

"So, Easton is going to a party tonight?" Candy asked me with her hand above her eyes, trying to shield herself from the sun. I tossed her a pair of extra sunglasses from my bag and she put them on. The weather was great today, the sun was shining and there wasn't a single cloud in the sky. So Candy and I were lying on the beach, getting a tan. I had just finished telling her about what had happened this morning with Easton and his friend.

"Yeah, it's supposed to be a big party. Do you think he's going to drink?" I asked her.

"Well, duh! His girlfriend cheated on him merely a week ago." She exclaimed.

"So, you think he's still upset about it?" I asked her.

"Yeah, probably. They dated for a long time, right? Anyway, being cheated on definitely sucks and I bet he's going to get wasted tonight."

She's probably right. I don't know how Easton is at parties, but I'm pretty sure he's not the one to stand in a corner and drink lemonade. I'm usually not into partying and drinking, but this party is somehow calling out to me. I feel the need to be there, and I don't know why.  Okay, it might be because Easton will be there, but I won't admit that out loud. I bet Easton would be furious if he saw me there, he would probably send me in a taxi home right away.

"What are you thinking about?" Candy asked me.

"I want to go to the party", I told her.

"Then go! You already have an invite from his hot friend. Who cares if Easton doesn't want you there.

"How do you know his friend is hot?"

"Well, Easton is hot as heck. So I'm just assuming that his friends are as well."

She winked and then we both burst into laughter. Easton's friend was kind of cute with his messy blond hair, but he had nothing on Easton.

But back to the party. Candy was right, I did have an invite. And the thought of staying home alone tonight didn't appeal to me at all. I wanted to have fun! I just need to make sure that Easton doesn't see me there.

"Alright. I think I'll go." I told her with a big smile on my face.

"Yes, girl! I'm so down for this! I have the perfect dress for this!" Candy cheered.

"Uhm, you're not invited," I told her.

"I'm your plus one." She winked.
