Give Me That Treble
•V•
I watch silently as Beckett paces back and forth angrily across the empty studio. I let out yet another deep sigh and Beckett finally comes and sits next to me.
"Will you please tell me what happened now?" I ask gently. Beckett looks at me before glaring straight ahead. I scoot closer and rest my head on his shoulder.
"Austin and Delanee are trying to petition to get my mom fired," he says finally. Excuse me?! My jaw drops and I jump up from my seat.
"What? Why! She literally hasn't done anything!" I exclaim, absolutely livid.
"Austin is mad that he didn't get his way, and Delanee is mad she's not in the Primas," Beckett replies with a frown.
"That's so ridiculous! Over half the dance program didn't make the cut to be a Prima, and Austin, he's always disrespectful!" I exclaim.
"Yeah, I know. They don't even have solid evidence against her, so I'm not too worried. Just annoyed that they're dumb enough to go through with this," Beckett mutters.
"Well. Durani lets students take defense doesn't he?" I ask. Beckett shrugs.
"I mean yeah," he starts.
"Well then let's go. Now," I decide, pulling Beckett off the bench and stalking out of the studio.
"V let's just calm down for a hot second," Beckett protests as I drag him through the halls.
"Pft. That coming from you," I retort as I march into the office with him in tow.
"Ah, just the two I was coming to find," Durani says, appearing in the door way.
"You were, why?" I ask, entering the office.
"Well I'm sure Mr. Bradstreet has explained the situation to you already," Durani states. I nod.
"Ms. Morita, is it true that you denied Delanee Mayzler a place on the Primas?" Durani asks.
"I was one of three votes on the panel. The vote was a unanimous 'no'. Not only were there no available spots on the team, but tryouts were held at the beginning of the year, and Delanee lacks the skill level of the rest of the dancers," I reply immediately. Durani just nods.
"And is it correct that you also denied Austin's request for a film study?" He asks again.
"Yes. He was unreasonably disrespectful and has a history of harassing several of the dancers," I respond.
"Thank you Ms. Morita. All your answers matched with the other defendants. I'll take it from here," Durani tells us. I slowly rise from my seat, glancing at Beckett.
"Do you think it's going to be okay?" I whisper as we leave the office.
"I think so. Durani doesn't have any evidence that could discredit mom," Beckett replies.
"True. True," I say, letting out a breath.
"Okay. Let's go find C. She's probably super worried," I decide. Beckett nods in agreement.
"So. You know what I've realized," Beckett starts as we walk down the hall.
"What?" I ask.
"We haven't gotten ice cream since we got back from America," he says. I laugh.
"That's the least of our worries right now," I tell him, shaking my head. Beckett pulls me into his arms.
"Are you sure you're not suffering from withdrawal?" He asks me, sticking out his bottom lip.
"I'm very sure," I reply, giving him a quick peck.
"But you'll still let me take you out tomorrow right?" He asks, "I'm not letting you go until you say yes."
"I'm shocked you think it takes that much convincing to get me to go out with you," I laugh.
"You keep me on my toes," Beckett replies, releasing me. I laugh again.
"Okay, but for real, we actually need to go find C," I tell him.
"Ugh, fine," Beckett jokes, allowing me to drag him down the halls.
