Chapter 25

Ferdinand descended down the stairs and made it to the hatchery with the other rebels. The hatchery itself was a cave. There were demon eggs of all monstrosities lying around in groups scattered all over the place. The few sentries stationed there were too little to hold off the rebels and in a matter of seconds, they all laid dead.

The rebels hacked at those eggs, poking it with their makeshift spears and whatever weapon their hand held at the time, feeling absolutely no remorse for the unborn demons that lay within. They committed absolute atrocities down there, and no demon was there to witness it.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Luna and Miranda fought their way to the throne room, killing off demons that crossed their paths. They finally made it to a chamber that was only one door away from the throne room, finishing off the remaining guards and destroying some furniture in the process.

"This is it, Luna." Miranda shot a glare at her apprentice. "Let's finish this."

Miranda pushed the doors open, revealing the Lord of Bones sitting on his throne with Aeziana and Velmaia standing on both his sides as if they're his loyal servant.

"Who dares comes into my dwelling? Are you the one who's trying to overthrow me?" the Bone Lord asked.

"Overthrow you?" Miranda answered. "We're here to kill you."

The Bone Lord laughed at Miranda's statement. "Kill me? No foolish human would even think about it."

Miranda thrust her free hand forward and launched angelic fire at him. The Bone Lord flinched at the pain of the fire. He looked at Miranda who smirked at him. He said that no foolish human would think about killing him, but if that girl blasted him with angelic fire then that means that she's no human.

"I see," the Bone Lord continued. "You are a seraphim." He stood up and grabbed a spear that was a part of his throne. The handle was made out of a spine with a sharp bone as a spear head. "That will make killing you all the more fun."

He jumped forward in an attempt to kill Miranda in the first move, but Miranda got out of the way and the two engaged in single combat. Luna wanted to join in, but before she could even touch him, some powerful force pushed her and sent her flying out the door.

By the time Luna got on her feet, she saw Velmaia standing before her as the door to the throne room closes, separating her from Miranda. She drew her sword ready to face what's coming.

"So, you've been learning magic, haven't you?" Velmaia asked.

Luna gave her no answer, her sword pointed at her opponent.

"I suppose you're the kind of person who does more than they talk. Very well, then." Velmaia thrust her hand and a beam of demon fire erupted from it. Luna's reflexes told her to do the same and they were locked in a magical struggle between angel and demon.

Luna struggled whereas Velmaia was more relaxed. Proof of her lifetime of experience, while Luna had a handful of training only recently. She could see that the struggle was turning against her favor so she disengaged and dodge rolled away before the fire could hit her. They stared at each other for a while and then Velmaia raised her hand, which also happened to raise some of the broken furnitures before hurling them at Luna one by one.

Luna was able to catch the objects mid-flight using her magic and sent them in another direction before throwing the last one back at Velmaia with full force. Velmaia flinched at Luna's counterattack but she quickly picked herself up. She knocked Luna's sword off her hand and pushed her forward, pinning her against the wall. She walked slowly towards her, drawing her knife making sure that she didn't release Luna from her magical grip.

Once near, she choked Luna, feeling the air moving in her throat. She raised her knife high but before she could stab her, she heard a loud bang and an excruciating pain in her stomach. She looked down and saw herself bleeding. What's worse is that Luna was holding the revolver that caused it.

With a quick movement, Luna grabbed the wrist of Velmaia's knife hand while her other hand knocked off the choking arm. She manipulated Velmaia into stabbing herself before sticking the barrel of her revolver against her temple and pulling the trigger.

-----------------------------------------------------------

"You deal with her," Aeziana ordered after pushing Luna out of the throne room. Velmaia obeyed without a second thought. As soon as she stepped out of the throne room, the doors closed itself as if by magic, leaving Miranda alone with a greater demon and a cambion.

The Bone Lord spun around to strike, but Miranda's agility allowed her to jump over it and land perfectly on her feet. Miranda chained her move by bending her knees and slashed at the Bone Lord's leg where it was unprotected by his exoskeleton. She bent her knees even further and rolled over behind him before slashing at him again in another unprotected spot. When she was about to make her next move, she suddenly felt something strong gripping her. She tried to move around, but couldn't.

"Now's the time," Aeziana said behind her. "You can finish her off."

The Bone Lord turned around and slowly raised his spearhead, pointing it at Miranda's chest. If Miranda didn't think of something soon, then it would be the end of her. Dreadfully, she watched as the Bone Lord drew back his spear to prepare for a quick, life-ending thrust. She quickly conjured angel fire from her free hand and launched it at Aeziana, who flinched upon contact forcing her to release Miranda from her magical grip just in time for her to parry the Bone Lord's attack.

"You fool!" the Bone Lord exclaimed. "Why did you let her go?"

Miranda blasted Aeziana with a continuous beam of angel fire, giving her opponent no choice but to engage her in a power struggle with her own demon fire. The Bone Lord saw the opportunity and struck Miranda with the shaft of his bone spear, knocking her to the ground.

"Pin her down!" the Bone Lord ordered.

Aeziana extended her arm and Miranda could feel the same invisible force that prevented her from moving earlier. Miranda watched as the Bone Lord lifted his spear, readying himself to plunge the head into her heart. She struggled to move, but Aeziana's grip was too strong for her. She kept struggling and at the very last moment, she successfully dodged the fatal thrust.

"What is wrong with you?" the Bone Lord said, frustrated. "You let her go again!"

Aeziana's face changed to show an expression of shock. She burst out of the throne room to see Velmaia lying dead in a puddle of blood. Not far from her corpse, was Luna holding a revolver.  Her hand flew to her gaping mouth as her eyes filled with tears.

Upon seeing Aeziana, Luna pointed her gun at her, ready to pull the trigger. When she sent a bullet flying, Aeziana put her hand up and stopped it mid-flight before it could sink itself into her flesh. She unleashed a powerful knock back that forced Luna against the wall, knocking her out. She embraced her sister's dead body and opened a portal to the Netherworld where she withdrew herself to.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The fighting still went on in the throne room between Miranda and the Lord of Bones. They exchanged blow after blow with no clear hint of the possible victor. The Bone Lord was impressed with Miranda's fighting skill. Not only is she agile and fast, but being able to put up with someone as powerful as he is, she must have at least been trained by someone from the Underworld. They fought to a standstill before the Bone Lord disengaged his onslaught of attacks and backed away from her.

"Perhaps defeating you in single combat would be impossible." The Bone Lord stuck his spear on the floor. "But I suppose you may not be as good at magic as you think."

The Bone Lord swiped his hand horizontally and conjured something out of thin air. They appeared to take the form of skulls with ghost-like properties, made of mist and white all over. The skulls launched themselves towards Miranda with their mouths gaping open.

Miranda blasted them with angel fire and caused them to dissipate. The Bone Lord summoned more phantom skulls and Miranda simply forced them to dissipate by burning them as she stepped closer to the Bone Lord.

The Bone Lord launched one final wave of phantom skulls at Miranda which she simply discarded by fire. This time, instead of just a burst to destroy them, she launched a continuous beam at the Bone Lord.

The Bone Lord felt the burning pain of angel fire against his skin. He flinched and turned, trying to put them out but only resulted with him burning even more. Miranda launched one final swing at him and that was it. The Bone Lord, ruler of Kinderley was dead.
