Sly Cat!
The documentary had gotten approved and all the paperwork had been sorted out. The first order of business is to get some photos. Kuroo, being the annoying genius he naturally was, had the idea to have Chie take some photos at the concert hall. He even went to "great lengths" to bring a Mikasa volleyball as a prop.
"You really know how to take advantage of my schedule." Mitsumi met Kuroo and the photographer out on the stage. Mei hadn't arrived yet for their dress rehearsal.
Kuroo's lips curled up into that stupid Cheshire cat grin. "I always have. When else are you going to be so dressed up?"
The photographer bowed, "Machi Takeshi. A pleasure to work with you."
"Of course! Just tell me what to do and I'll do my best." Mitsumi bowed back. She was lucky that she had access to the concert hall at this hour.
The design team wanted photos of her at a grand piano. She took a few classy ones, one of her playing, and a few different poses with the volleyball in the frame. And for fun, she even took one where she was one arm on the piano while spinning the volleyball on her finger.
"Smile ya doofus!" Kuroo was standing a few rows back from the stage. "You look ridiculous!"
Mitsumi started to laugh as the photographer continued to snap pictures. "Oh my gosh, Kuroo. I'm going to kill you today." She bounced the ball against the stage. "Oi! Serves up Bed Head!" She tossed the ball into the air for a classic overhand serve.
Kuroo still had a perfect receive. The ball shot straight up and he caught it in his large hands. "Not bad, short stuff."
Mei was walking on stage to start dress rehearsal. Her face went pale at the sight of a volleyball in a prestigious concert hall. "You guys better not be playing Pepper in here." She walked across the stage to her piano and took a seat.
"I swear we aren't," Mitsumi reassured her mortified partner.
Machi paid no attention. He scrolled through some of the shots he got and smiled at his work. Of course, they still needed to be edited. But, he got what they needed. The photographer was far too used to Kuroo's bizarre antics. He often accompanied the businessman to different events and press conferences.
"Do you guys want to see some of the shots?" The photographer was instantly surrounded by everyone. "I don't know which ones will be in the final product, but I will send you a folder to select your favorites from," Machi told Mitsumi, who hummed in agreement.
They looked amazing. Mitsumi didn't realize it, but the blue and yellow ball matched her blue gown. "These look amazing! Are you sure you are only a photojournalist?"
"You should take her wedding photos." Mei was beyond impressed with the raw photos. She was only half-joking in her comment.
Kuroo raised an eyebrow at the statement. "Hey, that isn't a bad idea, Mei-chan."
"It really isn't." Mitsumi agreed with both of them. "If you get the edited photos to me quick enough, I'll talk to Koushi and consider it." She crossed her arms in thought. Just the raw photos alone were super promising. There was no way in heck she'd let her younger sister take her wedding photos. Megumi was a part of the wedding party, and it was going to stay that way.
"See, problem solved Tsumi-chan." Kuroo winked in an all-knowing manner with his arms crossed and his classic smirk. He had known about her lack of a wedding photographer and had been doing some research. Although that research required him to pester poor Machi into oblivion about the documentary promotional shoot. Mitsumi had been looking for someone for months and hadn't fallen in love with anyone's style yet.
This was the closest she had gotten to actually loving someone's photography. And it wasn't even wedding related. Go figure. Mitsumi let out a relieved sigh, "Well Machi-san, thank you for your work today." She bowed politely, "And I understand you're a photojournalist, so don't feel pressured to shoot a wedding if-"
"How about we discuss that after I get these to you? Yeah?" The photographer chuckled, glad that he had another potential gig coming up.
...
Sugawara watched the concert from the backstage area. He sat on a chair in the stage wing and listened to the music. The show was sold out, so he didn't always get to sit in the audience. However, he did appreciate that his wife enjoyed the backstage support. He knew that some of their friends had managed to get tickets to the duo's last concert of the year. The only downside was that he had learned over time that the music sounded entirely different from out in the audience. But, he would take what he could get for now.
The audience gave a standing ovation at the end. The stage crew in the back were clapping as well. Suga's heart was swelling with pride. This was the first time in a while he actually had the time to watch his fiance perform.
"Great work, you two." He gave both Mei and Mitsumi congratulatory hugs.
Mitsumi kissed his cheek, "I'm so relieved it's over. My hands are shaky!" She never truly got over her performance anxiety and stage fright. But, it was way better than what it was in college. So, she took that as a major win.
"My stomach started growling during the final piece." Mei rubbed her stomach. Her nerves made it so that she couldn't eat too much before the show without wanting to vomit. The stress of the end of their recital series, plus having a sold-out concert, had really hit her hard.
They headed back to the dressing rooms to touch their makeup up really quick before going to the lobby to greet their audience. Mei even ate a quick snack before going out. Well, mostly because Suga had been so kind to shove a piece of fruit into her hands once she set her makeup brush down.
"Mei-chan, you never told me you had such a great sense of humor." Kuroo walked over with a crooked grin. "Great performance."
"Thank you, but I promise that joke before the final piece was unintended." Mei had been worried that she was too informal.
Saki piled on the hugs. "I can't tell you how much I loved listening to you guys tonight." She handed the pianists some more flowers. It was more like stacking them in their arms. She shouldn't have bought some. They weren't joking when they said they wouldn't be offended if their friends didn't bring any. And now the tall wing spiker could see why they weren't joking about it.
"Saki! The flowers!" Mitsumi's pile in her arms was threatening to topple down. "I'm glad you enjoyed tonight though."
Suga had his own stack of bouquets in his arms from the theatre staff. "If you want a group photo, I can take those." He offered Mitsumi and Mei.
After several photos. They were all happy to finally leave. The audience had long left, leaving Suga and Mitsumi on their own. Kuroo had decided to drive Saki home for the sake of it. Knowing those two idiots, Mitsumi knew that something was up. Actually, something was up for years and hopefully one of them would finally take care of it. Mei, on the other hand, had her brother bring his car around since he had attended.
"So, this means we can finally take a nice long break. Right?" Suga kissed her cheek as they walked out to Kageyama's car he let them borrow. He was grateful to have recently gotten his driver's license recently. Well, after failing the test a few times. Mitsumi usually was the one to drive if they took a car, but he refused to let her drive home after such an exhausting event.
Mitsumi passed him her flowers to put in the back seat before lifting the skirt of her dress so she could climb into the passenger seat. "Well, that is only if you don't kill us in this car." She listened to the car doors shut after he climbed in.
"Well don't worry, Sparks. I'm not that bad of a driver. You know that." He spoke confidently as he turned the car keys. He placed his foot on the pedal and allowed the car to lurch forward out of the parking space. It was a blessing they had gotten a pull-through parking space. His left hand stayed on the wheel as his right hand reached over to rest on Mitsumi's knee.
She slapped his hand away. "Oi, both hands on the wheel!" Mitsumi didn't trust anyone driving unless it was herself. Once they were out on the roads and he seemed to be doing well, then she took a deep breath and relaxed into her seat before continuing, "So, Kuroo found us a photographer for the wedding."
"Jumping right into business already?" Suga let out a heavy sigh. He wanted to celebrate her final successful concert of the season. "But, that's nice of him to suggest one. Do you trust it though?" He knew that Kuroo had been clowning around by hacking into Mitsumi's Pinterest planning boards and adding things he thought would be nice for the wedding. And by nice, it meant that he had no idea what he was doing and just threw things onto her wedding board without her knowing. The woman had found out he was the one ruining her algorithm when he accidentally showed her a series of awful photography accounts he thought would be worth researching.
Mitsumi let out a loud cackle. "Wait till I get the photos I took this morning. I think you'll agree with me." She said with a wink as she pressed a kiss to his cheek.
"Sly cats." Suga swerved out of the blue as someone came zooming in to cut him off. "Hey! Watch it!" He shouted out of the blue.
Mitsumi grabbed onto whatever she could hold. "I SAID WE CAN'T DIE YET!" She yelled at the top of her lungs. The car rolled to a stop at the next red light when the same car that cut them off earlier rolled up in the lane next to them. She angrily rolled her window when she realized who it was and stuck her head out while motioning for the other driver to roll their window down. "Are you trying to kill us?!"
"Just a reminder not to trust me too much, Tsumi," Kuroo smirked a bit. "Check your DMs!" He zoomed off cackling with Saki as soon as the light turned green.
She was too tired to even bother opening her social media at the moment. Yeah, he was sugaring her up. Sly cat!
