Bells are Ringing
Mitsumi Chie stood in the dressing room of the garden's clubhouse in her white wedding dress. She opened her eyes and gasped. "Oh my gosh. Asahi! You made this?" It was one of those rare shocked reactions that came from the woman that brought him a sense of ease. Asahi had made special occasion gowns for her while he was in school so that his designs didn't just sit on a rack. Thankfully, he had a good grasp on her form, and she had placed immense trust in him to get the job done right.
"I'm glad you love it! I'd probably cry if you hated it." Asahi was visibly relieved. Anytime any client came in for a final fitting, he was always anxious that they would hate it. And because of her hectic schedule, the big reveal happened the morning of the wedding. No stress at all. Right?
The bride stared into the full-length mirror. Her long chocolate hair was styled half-up, half-down, and curled. Part of her hair was braided on the sides into decorative braids with fresh anemone flowers placed into them. Her makeup is elegant yet natural. It complemented the dress perfectly. The dress stopped right at the ground, leaving enough room for her to walk without tripping. The skirt was full and flowy, but it wasn't poufy. Plus, it had pockets. The bodice had a beautiful floral lace with some simple beading. The neckline was a modest sweetheart that complimented the short flutter sleeves. The dress laced up the back like a corset. Mitsumi was surprised by how comfortable it was. She stepped into her nude-colored heels. They weren't super tall and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Matsuki had been kind enough to recommend the brand she wore to work.
Asahi stared at her. Something was missing. "I almost forgot your veil." He attached the matching veil to the back center of her head without ruining the flowers. "There we go!" He clapped her hands, satisfied with his work, and helped her off the podium. "Shall we go show the girls?"
The bridesmaids were in a different room getting ready. According to Noriko, they were all good to go. Her mother had been anxious to see the dress in person finally. The Mitsumi family matriarch was still surprised at how involved her daughter wanted her in the whole wedding process. Especially with everything that had happened in the past. But, this was just another reminder that time had passed and things had changed.
"Oh my gosh, my best friend is a BABE!" Saki shrieked as Mitsumi came into the room. Everyone's necks snapped in the direction of the door. All of the bridesmaids were busy finalizing their looks. Some were touching up their lipstick while others were chatting while scrolling on their phones. But now, they were all fighting for a clear view of the bride.
Megumi turned in her chair and dropped the closed container of lipstick in her hand on the floor. "How do you expect me to hand you off when you look like a FULL COURSE MEAL, Chie?!"
Everyone laughed at the initial loud reactions. Mei grinned and clapped her hands together. "Do a spin!" Everyone began to clap and chant along with Mei's request. Embarrassed by all of the attention, Mitsumi shuffled deeper into the room.
Mitsumi did a quick twirl. The skirt of the dress spun out around her. Everyone made some oohs and ahs in response. The photographer, who was there to document everything, was going ham on the shutter as she tried to capture everyone's reactions. Asahi stood in the background with a soft smile as he leaned on the door frame.
Noriko gave her daughter a hug. "Chie, I hope nobody mistakens you for a middle schooler today." She joked around as she tried not to cry so soon. It was hard to believe that she would get to see her eldest walk down the aisle. She remembered when she first announced that she was seeing someone and the shock that went through the family. They had all been convinced she would die a lonely cat lady. But it seemed to be that she was proving them wrong again.
They both laughed. "I don't think we will have to worry about that today, Mom." Mitsumi was trying to not cry before the ceremony. But, she was already starting to get emotional. "Can someone get me a tissue?"
...
Sugawara Koushi wasn't one for large ceremonies or grand affairs. And he was glad that his other half was the same way. He tugged on his tie and adjusted his navy blue suit coat. The butterflies in the gardens only reminded him of the butterflies in his stomach. He had the chance to talk with his parents and brother before they took their seats. But then they ended up chatting away with the other guests. That's when the reality hit him. He stood in place, anxiously swaying from side to side.
"Nervous much?" Daichi checked in with his best friend. He threw his hand on Suga's shoulder with a smile. He had to give something to someone and figured it was a good time to catch him.
He nodded, "Oh yeah. I don't know why though." Suga rubbed his neck, "Thanks for checking in, Daichi." The simple question snapped him out of his own mind. "And thanks for all the help today." Daichi had been a champion at helping the groomsmen get their act together. Well, it was more like Kageyama left his pants behind, and Daichi covered for him while he left to get them.
"Asahi, how is she?" Was his first question as soon as his friend and the designer of the day came over.
Asahi had a hand in his pocket, "She's in good spirits, Suga. No need to stress out." The former ace of Karasuno could only say that because his stress was
"The more you stress, the worse you'll feel." Kuroo said, "I called Tsumi earlier this morning, and she seemed to be doing great." That was only a half lie. Mitsumi had called Kuroo in a panic full of what-ifs. But it honestly didn't take much to talk her back down.
Bokuto grabbed the groom by the shoulders and gave him a quick massage. "Loosen up and relax, big guy! It's your big day!"
The bridesmaids finally arrived. They were all wearing matching mint green dresses with brown dressy sandals. Kuroo's eyes made a beeline for Saki. They did that weird googly thing that happened any time he saw her around the stadium. It was a bit of a shame that he was paired up with Matsuki for the event. But, that was probably because Mitsumi found out about his and Saki's original plans to cause chaos at the reception.
"Wandering eyes~" Bokuto teased the heck out of Kuroo by singing.
He snapped out of it and gave a side glare to Bokuto. "You better watch it, Frosted Tips. The second Makoto turns up I'm going to-"
They were cut off by an announcement to line up. Suga had already slipped off to go to his place at the altar. Everyone paired up according to their assignments. Saki and Daichi led the line as Best Man and Maid of Honor. Mei and Asahi, Megumi and Nishinoya, Reiko and Takuma, Kimi and Hinata, and Mei and Kageyama all followed behind with their arms linked as the music began.
The altar was located in a countryside garden with fields of colorful flowers. The weather wasn't too hot or too cold. The sky was clear. It was picture perfect. The wedding party walked to their places to the regal tune of Moret's majestic Rondeau arranged for a string quartet and piano.
Mitsumi kissed her father's cheek as they linked arms. They had arrived just in time. She clutched her beautiful bouquet of flowers in her other hand. "Don't cry yet, Dad." She watched him dab his eyes with his handkerchief.
"It's just sweat." He lied with a smile.
The sweet melody of Greig's Wedding Day at Troldhaugen. Which was originally for solo piano, but Mitsumi managed to arrange it for the musicians herself. It had taken her weeks, but she did it. And dang was she glad to know it sounded good. That arranging class she took was definitely worth it. Mitsumi refused to walk down the aisle to Pachabel. She was not going to do that to her musician friends. Although, she definitely joked about it when they had the music discussion.
Everyone stood up as the bride made her entrance. The guest seats were filled with their closest friends and family. Including former and current teammates, college and high school friends, and of course the people that meant most to them. Suga stood at the end of the cobblestone aisle completely stunned. His face lit up like a Christmas tree. His honey eyes were filled with tears that threatened to spill at any moment. He bit down on his bottom lip in an attempt to ease the nerves.
Mitsumi's father hugged his daughter one more time before passing her off to the groom. She took Koushi's hand and just wanted to kiss him on the spot. But, she wouldn't.
"Asahi dressed you well." He greeted her and kissed the back of her hand. "You look stunning."
"You clean up well too, ya know." Chie smiled brightly and wiped the stray tear on his face before walking to the priest who was waiting for them.
The ceremony was a bit of a blur. Tears of joy were definitely shed by all parties. After the vows, all Chie could remember was the sweet and slow kiss she and Suga dived into. He was officially her's, and she was officially his.
...
The newly wedded Sugawaras were relieved to have some uninterrupted down time together before the reception. They had just finished taking photos at the shrine and she had just changed back into her white dress.
They sat in the clubhouse and ate a bento Ai had made for them. She knew they wouldn't get the chance to eat otherwise. All the guests were off to prepare for the reception. Needless to say, Koushi and Chie were chowing down on as much food as they could since there would be no use in trying to eat at the reception. Plus they were finally able to get some well need peace and quiet. The bento was stuffed to the brim with sushi, tempura, and pickled vegetables. When they had first opened the massive multi-tiered lunch, they had both laughed at the foresight their mothers had when they made it.
The room was away from the clamor of everyone who was setting up the reception. It was a simply decorated sitting room with a view of the rolling hills that were colored with spring blossoms. Chie set her empty bento box aside as she gazed out over the view. Despite the chaotic morning, things were still perfect.
They managed to finish off the bento and sighed as their hunger had finally been relieved. "The hard part is over." Chie held both of his hands and gave them a soft squeeze. Their new rings glistened in the sunlight coming through the windows. She giggled as they pressed their hands flat against each other. "It's kind of hard to believe we're officially married."
"Yeah, it is. I'm glad I get some alone time with you before we get too tired." Koushi kissed her forehead and pulled her in for a hug. "Sparks, I really hope you know how beautiful you are. Inside and out." He could smell her subtle and comforting scent mixed with the sweet scent of the flowers in her hair. "I'm glad that I can call you my wife."
Chie moved her hands upwards and cupped his cheeks. "Onto world domination together?" She gazed into his glowing eyes with a pure grin. Their gazes locked lovingly. They were truly inseparable from the start. And both of them were surprised to have made it this far.
The afternoon sun shone behind them through the windows. The comfortable stillness of the moment was accompanied by the sounds of the birds chirping outside. The couple basked in each other's presence as they soaked in the events that had just taken place. The day was still young, but for now, getting lost in each other's eyes was enough.
Koushi held one of her hands and moved his other hand beneath her chin. "Dominating the world together sounds like a good plan." He pulled her in for another slow kiss. There was no need to rush things now. They were stuck together forever and could take all the time they wanted.
Nothing could change how perfect their day was. For once, not a care in the world crossed their mind.
