Of Bullies and Friends

My arms shook a little as I fell to the ground. "Go away freak!" I heard the girl say, "can't you see that no one wants to be your friend?" She asked, a smug look on her face as her friends laughed at my misery. I wiped my eyes with my back to the girls, the last thing i wanted them to see was that she was getting to me, so stood up and turned around to face her, a big smile gracing my young features, "That's okay, I'll just come back tomorrow." I said, walking away from the girl and her little clique. A few days after this happened, the group stopped bullying me, but sadly they found a new victim, the girl. The day had started normally, it wasn't until recess that the day had changed. "What a loser!" "Weirdo!" "Go away freak!" I looked up from where I was playing with my friends to see the girl who once bullied me had become the victim herself. I went back to my game, trying to ignore the pit in my stomach, but soon it became unbearable. "Here!" I said shoving the ball to one of my friends and i began to head towards to the classroom when I heard one of the bullies say, "Can't you see that no one wants to be your friend?" She sneered at the girl, who was now crying, tears running down her face. Something in my 8 year-old mind just seemed to snap. I stomped over to the group and shoved the leader down, "That's Not True!" I yelled at her, walking over to the crying girl and helping her up, using the sleeve of my sweater to wipe her eyes. "Im her friend, and if you mess with my friend you have to deal with me!" I yelled at all of them, taking the girl by the hand to go and get a teacher. "Why did you help me?" She asked, sniffling a bit. "Because you're my friend." I replied, giving the girl a big smile. "And that's what friends do."
