Chapter 20

*Continued*

"Maya get ready. Zayan and his mother are here." Fawad said to Maya as he entered in her room. She was sprawled across the bed with a novel in her hands and earphones plugged in her ears.

Maya looked up, surprised to see him there but then decided to ignore him.

"I really don't feel like it right now. I can meet them some other time." Maya said without looking at him and not even in the slightest bit caring that he had come to her himself.

"They are here for you."

"What do you mean for me?" She asked frowning.

"For you and Zayan."

"Can you explain what you are trying to say?" She asked trying to understand what he might mean.

"For your marriage to him. Now hurry up and get ready."

Marriage? Her eyes widened hearing that.

"What the hell do you mean bhai?" She yelled at him in shock. Her brother was taking things to an entirely new level.

"Language Maya."He said sternly. "Everyone's waiting, now hurry up."

"No one even asked me if I want to get married or not. And to Zayan? No way."

"I don't know whats going on in your brain but cut it out. I am waiting for you here go change." Her brother said with a tone of finality.

"Bhai you didn't even ask me first. How can you do that? I will say no. I am not going to marry anyone." She said.

"Ammi said yes from your side. She said you told her about it. So you better stop playing whatever game you are playing and get ready now." Fawad said clenching his jaw. Maya looked at him in shock. Her brother was never the one to talk to her like this.

"Get up Maya." He said again and she staggered to the closet to get a dress.

She took out the first dress she saw and went to the bathroom and wore it. She wrapped a random hijab around her head and went out to face her brother.

"I'm done." She gritted out.

"Don't you need to wear any makeup?" He asked her in a soft voice.

"No I don't." She said through her teeth.

"Maya don't create a scene." He warned her.

"You hate me so much now that you are going to get me married to someone now? Are you that embarrassed because of me?" She asked him, not being able to bear it all silently anymore.

Fawad's head snapped towards her and he looked at her in surprise when he saw her eyes filled up. Shouldn't she be happy? Isn't this what she wanted after all?

"I am such a burden to you that you want me out of this house now." She stated and her heart broke all over again.

"Maya-"

"Save it." She said raising her hand to stop him and turned to leave the room. Fawad stopped his sister as he held her hand.

"Maya what's wrong?" He asked softly. Maya looked up at him, this was the first ti eh was actually speaking to her like this after all that time. "Unless you tell me what's wrong, I will never know."

"I don't want to get married to anyone. Please don't make me go." She pleaded.

"Mama said that you told them you wanted to get married to him." He said trying to make out why she was behaving this way. Was it because she didn't want to leave her house and start a new life with someone or was it something else? Probably the former he thought when she didn't say anything.

He led her to the drawing room where she could here her mother's excited voice.

"Salam." She mumbled with her eyes on the ground.

"Walaikum Salam beta." Zayan's mother replied cheerfully. "Maya Come here beta. Have some mithai."

She faked a smile and made her way towards her and sat down.

His mother made her eat a whole piece of mithai and she felt like throwing up. It was so sweet and it left a foul taste on her tongue.

"I was so happy when Zayan told me about you." His mother gushed.

What?

So Zayan had been behind this.

She looked up and glared at him but he was busy talking to her father with a bright smile on his face. She glared at him so hard that he would be deep under the ground but he hadn't even glanced her way.

And how did her mother even say yes without asking her? She really was going to have a word with her after they left. She just had to stay civilized for a little more time.

"So Maya how is your job going?"

"I don't do it anymore." She replied stiffly with her expression guarded.

"Oh I see." She said and turned her attention towards her parents. "So when do we set the date?"

"Whenever is convenient for you Appa." Her mother said excitedly.

"How about in two weeks?" Fawad suggested from beside her and she wished she knew telepathy to shut him up.

"Two weeks?" Her mother exclaimed."That is so much less time."

"We want a simple wedding. Two weeks is fine. I can't wait to see my grandchildren." Zayan's mother said excitedly and Maya tried not to roll her eyes.

She didn't know what she was supposed to do when Areesha winked at her. Was she supposed to blush like a shy bride or what?

Suddenly she caught Zayan's eye and he smiled at her.

Smiled! First that jerk had the audacity to bring the proposal to her house without asking her and then he was smiling at her. She wanted to go and kill him with bare hands.

"Then its done. We need to start shopping soon." Areesha said from beside her.

Maya zoned out of the conversation. She wanted to storm out of the room or yell in their faces that she wasn't going to marry him. While they talked about the wedding preparations and what not Maya planned of ways to kill Zayan and then ask her mother why she wasn't asked first.

She knew he was pitying her as he thought that no one would marry he and she would die without a man in her life. As if! She didn't need a guy to help her up. She was strong enough to manage everything on her own.

She was going to give him one hell of a time for bringing this proposal that he would reject it himself. She smiled at that thought. It really would teach a lesson to this idiot for pitying her.

"Maya?" Someone snapped fingers in front of her face.

"Yes?" She said coming out of her thoughts.

"Aww you're already daydreaming about your marriage?" Auntie said and Maya fought the urge to roll her eyes at her stupid teasing.

She just stayed quiet and looked down as she thought a bride was supposed to do.

"So I was saying beta do you want to come with us to choose your ring?"

"No its fine. You can choose it." She said through her teeth and hoped she didn't sound rude.

"First girl who doesn't want to choose her ring by herself." She said with a smile and side hugged her.

After some more agonizing minutes of enduring their excitement of the wedding they decided to leave.

Zayan's mother hugged her.

"You would be perfect for him beta. Thank you." She whispered to her as Maya reluctantly hugged her back.

When she pulled away she was startled to see her eyes wet. Her heart warmed to know that she was the reason of someone's happiness.

She glanced at Zayan and found him already staring at her. She was trying to read his expression but she couldn't. She finally looked away and cleared her throat.

After seeing them off her parents came back inside.

Her father hugged her and patted her head.

"My princess has grown up so much." He said with a sad smile as he hugged her.

After lots of hugs from her family, she was left alone with Areesha

"Maya you are perfect for Zayan. I know you can help him." Areesha said with tears of joy streaming down her cheeks.

She looked at her flabbergasted. What was she talking about?

She still hadn't gotten the chance to talk to her mother in front of everyone but she was going to bring an end to all this stupidity.

How could they even set the date without asking for her consent?
