Chapter III
Kiera hummed to herself happily as she flew through the air towards the island mansion that she called home. The tune on her lips was one she had heard whilst in line for her food at the nearest Burger King; something along the lines of: "Shoot me down, but I won't fall. I am titanium." Kiera chuckled at the audacity of the lyrics. The artist was obviously human: flesh and bone. They had no idea what it was like to truly be part titanium like she was.
Kiera's mind traveled back to the memories of the times before she was a goddess. She had always had metal bone, for she was born with them; they never broke, and could stand up to virtually anything. Kiera shuddered at the thought of what life might be like with a human skeleton. Such a frail framework could not possibly stand up to the kind of things Kiera did.
As the lake came into view, Kiera angled her wings so she landed softly on the sandy shore of the island. She was immensely grateful every day that Cthulhu had taken mercy on her and made her Goddess of Anarchy. It was much better than her previous life as Kiera Savage. This time around, she had the power. This time, she was the one calling the shots.
Kiera was about to start heading back to the mansion when she heard a whine behind her. Her hand instinctively flew to the belt of runestones around her waist. Fulva's rune hadn't been accidentally activated, so what was that sound?
When she heard the whining for a second time, Kiera turned around to see a midnight black she-wolf crawling onto shore. Her pelt was drenched and she looked exhausted. Kiera immediately realized why. On her back, was a girl that appeared to be unconscious. Kiera activated a brown runestone on her belt, which was a translation spell.
"What is it? Why have you come to the Legion's sacred island?" The goddess asked, placing a hand on her hip.
The wolf's yellow eyes met hers. "Please, Lady Kiera, help her. I could only manage to bring her this far, but she's hurt badly. She broke her leg and suffered extreme blood loss, as well as a concussion."
Kiera sighed. "Alright. Do you have enough energy to help carry her to the mansion?"
The wolf regretfully shook her head. "I'm sorry. I do not."
The goddess placed a hand on the she-wolf's forehead, carefully tracing in grey light the symbol for power on her forehead: 力. The wolf immediately got to her feet as her muscles rippled. "That should help." Kiera told her. "I can't do much until we get to the mansion. Can you help?"
"Of course, Lady Kiera."

Vadina woke up in an unfamiliar bed with a pounding headache and no recollection of how she had gotten there. She felt something twitch at her feet and looked down to see a black wolf curled in a ball, asleep. She remembered what had happened; S.P.E.A.R. murdering her parents, escaping into the woods, and the wolf's last gift of mercy. Vadina had barely escaped with her life. But that didn't explain why or how she had come to be in this room.
"Good. You're awake."
Vadina's head whipped nervously around the room. "Who's there? Please don't kill me! I've barely made it with my life!"
A hand rested on the teenager's shoulder. Vadina followed it up with her eyes, realizing it was a girl maybe a bit older than she was. The girl had brown hair that went a little past her shoulders and eyes a shade of grey that Vadina had never seen before in human eyes. She wore a white sleeveless ruffled dress, leggings with black ballet flats and a belt of stones with weird symbols on them. The thing that intrigued Vadina the most, however, were her fully metal—and operating—wings on her back.
"Relax, kid, will ya?" The girl said, a smirk spreading on her pink lips. "I'm here to help, not to hurt. And now that you're awake, I can finally start doing that."
Vadina was about to protest, but the girl with metal wings had already placed her hands an inch over the girl's body. She watched in awe as a grey light came out of her palms, twisting and curling much like smoke. The light went into Vadina's body, immediately making her feel better. She saw the cuts on her body heal up, and felt the throbbing stop in her head and leg.
"Whoa..." Vadina breathed.
The girl smiled and removed her hands, the weird smoke magic stopping immediately. She pulled up a chair and sat at Vadina's bedside.
Vadina piped up, "Um...thank you for all of this. I really am appreciative, but who are you?"
The girl reached to her forehead to tip a hat, but realized she had none to speak of. Instead, she settled for the next best thing and tipped the black rose accessory in her hair. "Name's Kiera." She looked at Vadina, concern showing though her face. "What about you?"
"Vadina." She answered cautiously. "Can you tell me why you brought me here?"
Kiera leaned back in her chair. "Whelp, I didn't actually bring you to this island, and considering that we are about two hundred miles away from the mainland, neither did the she-wolf who dragged you from wherever you passed out and into the clearing. The only explanation I can give, is Cthulhu; if he wants you here, than I want you here as well. Still, I gotta commend the dog; if it wasn't for her, you would be in a lot worse condition than you are now."
Vadina looked at the wolf in awe. "She helped me?"
"Yep." Kiera affirmed. "Her name's Amber."
Vadina sat up and pat the lupine head of her sleepy savior. "Thank you, Amber." She whispered.
Kiera looked fondly at the wolf. "She told me what happened. I personally blame S.P.E.A.R."
Vadina flinched at the familiar name.
"They did..." Kiera's face filled with pity. "Oh."
Vadina sighed. "Who are they and what did they want with me?"
Kiera bit her lip. "The Society for Paranormal Extinction And Removal—or S.P.E.A.R. for short—is a group of tyrants that want to remove all paranormals, or anything that is stronger than a human. Essentially angels, demons, werewolves, demigods, mutants, vampires, etcetera."
Vadina huffed. "I know what paranormals are." She said under her breath.
"Well sor-ry!" Kiera exclaimed. "Anywho, S.P.E.A.R. has close ties with the government and can remove anybody under the age of eighteen that hasn't been registered as a paranormal or has anything 'wrong' with them."
"Remove?" Vadina asked.
"Basically a nice word for kill." Kiera clarified. "I was almost 'removed' if not for my mother's influence or my brother's argument. Apparently a metal skeleton isn't cause enough to be seen as a threat."
Vadina's eyes filled with grief. "They took my parents."
Kiera nodded grimly. "I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do. In order for me to change a fixed point in time, I'd need permission from the Trinity."
Vadina warily looked up at Kiera. "Will they come for me?"
Kiera seemed like she was about to say something, but she stopped before any words were formed. Her eyebrows furrowed in concentration, and after a bit she snapped her fingers. Kiera's entire hand began to glow with the smoke magic again as she traced a symbol on Vadina's arm that looked like: 守. It glowed brightly for a bit, and then faded away. "That is an anarchy spell. I've bent the rules of reality so that you are no longer on S.P.E.A.R.'s wanted list. Even if they try to find you, their machines will never work correctly. So as far as S.P.E.A.R. is concerned, you're dead."
Vadina looked up at the girl. She'd only just met her, and yet Kiera was doing all these things for seemingly no reason. What was her real motive? Who exactly was she?
Vadina was snapped out of her trance by Kiera saying, "C'mon spit it out."
"What?"
"You look like you want to ask me something. Go ahead. Ask away."
Vadina blushed, stuttering, "U-Um, w-well, n-n-not that I'm not g-grateful or anything, b-but why did you k-keep me a-alive? W-Why do you c-care so much about w-what happens t-to me?"
Kiera's face fell, her grey eyes turning solemn. It was about a minute or so before she answered, "Because we're kindred spirits. I too, lost someone I loved once. I've been through many horrible things after that, and I don't want you to experience any of the things I had to go through. That, along with what I said earlier that you are here for a reason, and I intend to figure that out."
Vadina was shocked. This girl really cared. "But you seem to be about my age...how can you know those things?"
"Well, I'm an immortal goddess." Kiera explained. "I may look about sixteen or seventeen, but in reality I am about 14,675 years old or so. It's all that time I spend in alternate dimensions and universes and such."
Vadina's eyes widened. "Cool..."
"It's really not that different from living an everyday life." Kiera brushed off. "Hey, I'll be right back. I've got to go do some things quick."
As Kiera began to stand up, Vadina exclaimed, "Wait!"
The goddess cocked her head in confusion.
"Um..." Vadina trailed. "I have nowhere to go."
Kiera rose to her feet. "Yes you do."
"What? Where?"
"Right where you're laying. This is your room now, feel free to do whatever you want to it."
Kiera made her way to the door. Vadina grabbed the edge of her comforter, playing with the ends nervously. "Kiera..."
"Yes?"
"Thank you."
Kiera chuckled softly and nodded, closing the door behind her and leaving Vadina to wonder if what had just happened was fate.
