The Message

Hi! Before you start reading, I'd like to say that I'm not a native english speaker, so there will probably be some mistakes. I hope you'll enjoy the reading nevertheless!

It was one of those beautiful days at the start of spring when everything was coming to life again after the hard rough winter. The little songbirds were singing high in the tree branches, and as their soft melodies filled the silence of an edge of a forest, they found ears of a man, slowly walking up a grassy hill. His long grey-brown cloak was shivering in the light breeze and his brown hair, now and then iterwoven with greyish rill, was gleaming in the sun's shine. He stopped for a moment and listened to the song of a bird flying up in the sky - how he loved songbirds! They reminded him of his school years with friends and people who took him as he was. He remembered the grounds of the place he was glad to call his home, all the years he spent here with people he loved. However, these sweet memories soon found a bitter end - there were no days like that coming again. But he pushed these thoughts aside - he wanted to enjoy his free time in nature.

It was a quiet evening at the end of February when Remus Lupin reached his favourite little bench on a small hilltop near Yorkshire. On his right was a forest he knew a bit too well, mainly because of all his gruesome nights as a werewolf. But oh, how he loved this place despite the awful memories! The trees scattered on a meadow around him carried a strange kind of atmosphere - the kind of feeling that gives you sweet goosebumps all over - like waking up early in the morning and looking from a window on a stunning sunrise and a misty valley - or a dark red sunset with raging clouds - or a star-sprangled night in the middle of July - that kind of feeling only nature can provide.

He looked down on a small village in a valley he grew up in. There have been built a few new houses, but otherwise, there haven't been made many changes. His family house was still on the same place next to a church, a stream he used to play in with friends still bubbled a few yards through their little garden and a playground not far from his former home was as dusty as ever.

He was staying here for a short time because of a mission Dumbledore entrusted him, but he didn't want the locals to know he was there, so he decided to stay in a small cabin on the hill. He encountered it many, many years ago with his friend. They were playing some games when he saw a cracked building they later indentified as an old hunting cabin for stranded wanderers or hunters. They used to have it as their base. As Remus arrived here nearly a week ago, it was the first spot he thought on. It was safer for him and all the people - on full moon nights he could transform and run away to the forest, which was situated all around the village - but, obviously, in a safe distance from it. Having this as a main reason to try to make the cabin feel like home, he put his best efforts into repairing the building itself and then trying to get some furniture. Fortunately, he was succesful in finding some pieces of a crashed armchair and a bed he could repair quite easily, then he made himself a little table and a chair to sit on. In the end, it looked really cozy - small and humble, but it felt like home.

He glanced around. The trees were gaining their lost leaves back, the grass looked greener with every second and the flowers were all blooming. His hazel eyes caught a beautiful pink flower hidden in the high grass. He bent down and plucked it. It seemed even more pretty in the subtle sunset light. A memory popped up - kind, nice and a bit clumsy girl filled his mind again - he has been thinking about her from the day of his departure from London. In fact, Nymphadora Tonks was occupying Remus's mind from the first day he met her. And, as much as he didn't like it, he felt really vulnerable around her - he assumed it was because his feelings towards the younger girl were strenghtening with every look and every touch she gave him. She was so whole - it felt as if her hugs or soft touches were filling the empty places of his scarred heart and soul. He looked at the little flower one more time - he decided to keep it and give it to Tonks when he comes back to London as a small gift from Yorkshire's meadows and moors.

He looked up at the blackening sky and frowned. The moon was growing full again. His last transformation was not that bad, but he still feared the next one. He was scared of every full moon, but in his position, who would not be? Being a werewolf is not easy - it's a burden he had to carry his whole life, and the truth is, the scars on his body were not the only injuries he got from all the years - there were missing pieces of his troubled soul that he could not find. And again, just as this thought swirled in his mind, the pink haired girl appeared, young and whole. He closed his eyes, knowing well she's too far away. Honestly, she feels too far away from his reach even if she sits next to him. It feels like an inevitable gap, a hole between them - his condition, his disability to make money or to get hired, his age, his appearence... She deserves someone like her - young, whole, healthy and capable of providing her a life she should live.

After some time of enjoying the evening, he admitted it would be better if he returned back to his cabin.  Standing up, he took one last glance on the beautiful scenery, but just as he turned around and wanted to begin his journey back, he spotted something in the trees.  He startled -  his hand was reaching for his wand, when a shining weasel appeared a few meters in front of him.

"That's not good," he said out loud as he rapidly reached the gleaming Patronus.

"They have problems," spoke the animal in Arthur Weasley's voice, "there are reinforcements coming, you must hurry to help them out. Stay safe."

The weasel disappeared. Remus thought hard. He knew there was a mission going on - Dumbledore and Kingsley wanted to stop a Death Eater's ambush in a little town near Doncaster. Mad-Eye Moody, Tonks, Mundungus Fletcher and Kingsley Shacklebolt were the Order members chosen to do the job of getting rid of the Death Eaters and protecting the muggles. His heart leapt - what if something happened to Tonks?

He dared not to think about it anymore - looking in the direction of his cabin and hoping he locked the door, he concentrated with all his might on the town the Order was in - he knew where he was supposed to Apparate from the Order meeting in February. The whole world swirled and he lost the ground beneath his foot as the darkness swalloved him up.
