We Were Underdogs

We were underdogs,

Like hidden cogs and pulleys,

The secret help,

The only help, not bullies-

But they tore us down,

Spoiled this town and people,

Our efforts failed,

The future hailed was feeble-

Our cry was heard,

But never learned by neighbors,

And now its lost,

And at our cost-

Now are gone our labors.
