Chapter 25
(Lowkey cheese warning for the second half. I can't write things like that sorry ahaha!)
________
Dae-Hyun clenched his jaw tightly in an attempt to silence his strained groans of agony. His whole body tensed at the searing pain flooding his nerves.
"Unnie, do something!" Sohee pleaded as an agonised cry escaped Dae-Hyun's lips that had become bruised slightly from him down biting on them.
"I can't Perle. I don't know what's wrong with him." She replied to the younger. She felt helpless as Sohee watched Dae-Hyun.
Yeonhee had both her hands on either side of his head now, so he didn't bash it against anything in the car. She had no idea what was happening as the others were fine and they all went through the same ordeal. Why was he different?
Dae-Hyun's voice became raspy from the loud and aggressive yells that had now started to wear on his voice. The pain getting to the point where screaming seemed pointless, and he started to forget what it felt like before the pain started. His whimpers becoming more heart wrenching to hear and his eyes started to prick with warm tears. They spilled and slid down from his eyes, tracing his temples and merging into his hair making it damp.
"We're nearly there Jäger, just hold tight." Yeonhee said calmly.
"No!" He whimpered. "Not-" He went on to try and say but the pain prevented him from getting anything but cries to come out of his mouth.
"We can call a doctor when we get to the casino. They can help." Yeonhee said softly, her small hands still holding Dae-Hyun's head.
"No!" He yelled before he let out a long and agonised cry.
Jae Eun just looked up from Dae-Hyun to the others in the car. He seemed genuinely distressed at the scene of the seemingly healthy boy, letting out cries he's never even heard come from the torture room.
"We're here." Ryota stated and got out the car. Everyone rushed out and helped to carry a flailing and screaming Dae-Hyun. They went the back way to avoid any of the casino goers, as it would seem a little odd for them to carry him through the main floor.
Ryota couldn't help carry him as his arm was healing and weak, but held open every door. They eventually got the yelling boy to his office where Min Seol and Taeyang were. Min Seol rushed to her feet, causing her chair to nearly fall back. She ran to Dae-Hyun as they laid him on his practically empty desk.
"Dae?!" She yelled and held his damp cheeks in her hands. Trying to do what Yeonhee was before, trying to prevent him from smashing his head down against the table. "Dae calm down. We'll figure this out." She said hurriedly, her voice clearly sounding panicked. "Shh..." She cooed and strokes his tear stained cheeks with her thumbs. "Calm down. Stop screaming."
Dae-Hyun tried to control his breathing which just resulted in his body calming down a little, but his breaths were still quick and inconsistent.
"There we go." She whispered and looked behind her to see a crowd of the other members standing there, looking worried. Kai Ling had an arm around Sohee's shoulders, trying to comfort the girl who was visibly upset. "Call a doctor." She stated.
"No! Not- No!" Dae-Hyun started to yell again, another wave of intense pain washing over him. Min Seol turned and looked down at him with wide and scared eyes.
"What do you want?" She asked urgently.
"Leo! Leo-!" He said, his voice dragging with the last call. He started to hiccup and whine as the pain was just too much. "Leo..." He dragged out in a high and strained voice. His eyes incredibly sore and his cheeks were sodden with his tears.
"I'll call him. Don't worry Dae. You'll be fine." Min Seol assured and reached into his desk drawer she knew he kept his phone when on missions.
She already knew his password as she figured it out weeks ago. She typed it in and the phone unlocked. Going into his contacts she saw Leo's name and called him quickly. She held the ringing phone to her ear and used her other free hand to continue to stroke Dae-Hyun's tears away.
"Dae-?" A soft voice answers after a few rings.
"Leo it not Dae, it's Min Seol." She interrupted. Leo paused for a second.
"Yes, he's spoken of you before." He said, Min Seol would have smiled at his words but couldn't in this situation. "Is Dae okay? Why are you calling me?" He asked. His soft voice showing some worry in his tone.
"No he's not. He really isn't. Come to the casino quickly. I'll have someone waiting outside to take you to where we are. He's... Not right-" she started to explain but stopped as Dae-Hyun screamed again.
"I'm on my way." Leo said firmly before hanging up the phone. Min Seol put the phone in her back pocket and focused fully on Dae-Hyun, who seemed to be going through the worst all over again.
Dae's sore eyes looked looked up and met Min Seol's. His expression broke her heart. He looked fragile and broken, like he'd lost hope. She'd never seen him like this and didn't want to. His lips quivered before he finally moved them and formed words.
"He's on his way?" He asked desperately, but his hoarse voice had gone soft and quiet. "Right?" He croaked. Min Seol smiled sadly and stroked his cheeks again as fresh tears spilled over.
"Yep. On his way right now. He'll be here soon." She whispered. Dae tried to smile but his face scrunched up instead and groaned. "One of you wait outside for him. Bring him here when he arrives.
Kai Ling nudged Sohee gently.
"Let's go wait outside Sohee." She said gently. Sohee's eyes were trained on Dae-Hyun but she silently nodded. "Come on." She prompted snd led the youngest out the door and towards the casino entrance.
"Who's Leo?" Jae Eun asked.
"No one you need to know yet." She snapped back. She signed and apologised, feeling bad for being harsh. "You'll know when Dae wants you to know." She said, calmer.
A few minutes went by and Dae-Hyun only got worse. He grew more tired but his body needed to move in a pointless attempt to get rid of the pain. He started moving his whole body left and right, his arms spasming and his legs kicking aimlessly.
"...here." Kai Ling's voice could be heard saying, as she opened the door.
Everyone turned to look at the door where there was a tall, dark haired man standing there. His features were sharp and attractive. His dark eyes were piercing, but in an endearing way. He was visually stunning to say the least.
"He's here." Min Seol said to Dae-Hyun. "Dae! What-" She started to exclaim as Dae-Hyun yelled and tried to roll over onto his side, bending his neck back so he could try and look at the tall, dark haired man everyone assumed was Leo.
"Leo! Leo!" He sobbed, trying to reach for him but his arms wouldn't do as his brain requested them.
Leo saw what Dae-Hyun was trying to do and ran over to him. He watched as he saw him crumble before him in a way he never ever want to witness. Min Seol stepped back and Leo replaced her hands and caressed Dae-Hyun's damp face. He frowned as Dae-Hyun let out a long cry.
"It's okay. I got you." He said in his soft and calming voice.
"Leo..." He sobbed and Leo hushed him. Leo looked behind him at Min Seol.
"Can I leave the way I came?" He asked her.
"Uh, no. I'll take you through the back." She said and walked over to him.
"I've got to take him somewhere. I can help him." He stated and snaked his arms under Dae-Hyun's upper back and knees, carrying him bridal style. He didn't look too well built, but he carried the broken boy with ease. He turned and nodded at Min Seol who then led him out the room.
Dae-Hyun's cries became muffled and distant was the door closed behind them.
No one knew what to do. What would you do after something like that?
Their strongest member crippled by an invisible pain, then taken away by a stranger.
________
"Mission success I would say, aye?" Minseo commented as they pulled into the casino car park.
"Well none of us died or were hurt so that usually means the mission was a success." Hyerim remarked as she hopped out the parked car.
"I don't need your sass Lucky." Minseo retaliated, following behind her.
Inha opened the car door and looked at Kyoji who was watching Momo open her eyes and tiredly sit up. Inha didn't want to piss off Kyoji by watching so she smiled and got out, leaving the two in the car.
Momo yawned and stretched her arms out. She looked out the open car door and saw the casino car park.
"Where are we?" She asked, rubbing her eyes carefully so she didn't smudge her makeup.
"The casino. Our building was destroyed so this is the next best place for us." He answered. "Come on, let's go and patch you up."
"I'm honestly fine." Momo brushed off as she got out, cringing at the feeling of the cold tarmac on her feet. "Just a few scrapes, nothing I can't handle."
Kyoji shut the door and walked past her, heading towards the casino's back entrance.
"Come on. You don't want an infection." He called. Momo sighed and followed him.
The only place he knew there was a first aid box was the top office floor, so that's where they headed. They went to Min Seol and Dae-Hyun's office but stopped as they saw everyone else in there looking gloomy.
"So he took him away?" He heard Hyerim asking.
"Yeah. He was in a really bad state." Jae Eun answered.
"Who was?" Kyoji asked. Everyone's eyes looked to Kyoji and then to Momo. Jae Eun hesitated before answering. "Momo's fine, she knows us." He clarified.
"Dae-Hyun. He took a turn for the worst and started spasming or something." Jae Eun explained.
"Never seen him like that before." Taeyang chipped in.
"Will be he okay?" He asked. Everyone stayed quiet as they didn't really know either, and it just hit them. They all turned to Min Seol who sighed at everyone's sudden stares.
"I don't know, I can't predict the future." She snapped at everyone. "I presume so."
"I hope so." Sohee mumbled and Kai Ling patted her shoulder.
"All we can do is wait. Let's just call it a night and deal with things in the morning when we're more fresh and awake." Ryota said, making everyone nod. "Good job tonight everyone." He added.
Everyone mumbled 'goodbye's before leaving the downstairs office. Minseo was last to leave as he was chatting to Hyerim. He turned to see Kyoji and Momo heading towards the door where the stairs that led to the second floor were behind.
"Ooh~!" He cooed, making Kyoji turn to look at him with a blank expression. "What's going on here then?" He asked in a suggestive tone.
"Momo hurt herself. I'm helping her." He retorted in monotone.
"Sure, sure." Minseo chuckled before heading towards the door. "Use protection kids!" He called as he shut the door behind him.
Kyoji didn't even think it was worth it to reply, because he's learnt that that's just how Minseo is. He turned around again and nodded for Momo to carry on going upstairs. His eyes caught onto the slight blush on her cheeks before she faced the other way.
"Sit on the table." He said as he walked to the cabinet where he knew the first aid kit was. She did as he asked and kicked her dangling legs as they didn't quite reach the floor.
"This is... Not what I expected." Momo commented as she looked around the plain looking room.
"What exactly did you expect?" Kyoji asked as he walked back over to Momo. She hummed before answering.
"The classic boardroom, you know?" She said and turned to look at him. "A huge wooden table, red walls, red velvet chairs and all that. Not this at all."
"I was like that, sort of. Then it got blown up." His face grimacing at the memory.
He tore the wrapper off an antiseptic wipe packet and looked at Momo. Her eyes widened as their eyes met and she looked as if she didn't know what he was doing. Kyoji's face kept his usual poker face, whilst Momo looked so confused.
"Your knees." Kyoji stated, making Momo let out an 'Oh!'. She looked embarrassed at her confusion and reaction.
"Oh yeah, sure. Go ahead." She mumbled, pretending to look around the room in an attempt to hide her red face. Kyoji ignored it but found it cute.
He crouched down and looked at her scraped and cut knees. On closer inspection they were scraped really badly, dried blood outlined the patches where her skin came off.
"This might sting a little." He warned as he wiped the skinless knee. Momo's leg automatically kicked at the sudden sting and accidentally kicked Kyoji in the chest.
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry!" She apologised quickly.
"I've been shot before, a little kick is nothing." He joked in his monotone voice.
"Oh, right." Momo said quietly, not sure how to respond. She clenched her teeth together as Kyoji continued to clean her knees, causing them to sting in an annoying way.
Kyoji stopped and stood up again, rummaging through the little green box for plasters (or band-aids if you don't say plasters) to cover up the cuts.
Momo looked at the side of his face and took in his features. He looked kind and friendly at first glance, but his personality is cold and guarded. Sometimes he was nice but overall, unpredictable. She found it difficult to understand him.
Kyoji turned and looked down to his hands as he fiddled with the plastic covering the sticky part, but it gave Momo time to tear her gaze away from his face. He glanced at her quickly again before crouching down.
He carefully put on a plaster over one of the worse cuts, and silently started to take the plastic off the second one.
"You didn't have to be so violent you know." Momo commented out of nowhere. Kyoji frowned at her words. "When you kept smashing that guy's head into the floor." She clarified as she assumed he didn't know what she was talking about due to his silence and lack of reaction.
"I'm sorry you had to see that." Was all he said.
"You're sorry I saw it?" Momo asked in disbelief. Kyoji hummed in response. "Aren't you sorry you did it?"
"No." He stated.
"Why not? He died painfully and in an unnecessary way." She argued, shocked by his answers.
"He deserved it. If I didn't do that then you would be dead or would have been kidnapped." He said.
"You- you could have just knocked them out or something." Momo stuttered. She wasn't a big fan of murder, like most people.
"Why should I show them mercy when they wouldn't have hesitated to do much worse to you?" He pressed. He placed the last plaster on her knee and stood up, so he was right in front of Momo. She looked up to him as she was still sitting down. Her expression looked conflicted.
"You didn't have to be that violent." She mumbled, pressing her lips into a thin line as she could see his point.
"I couldn't seem to help it." He answered. Momo frowned up at him. "The thought of them taking you away and killing you, or doing thing even worse than that made me so angry I can't even describe it." He told her. Her mouth fell agape and her heart fluttered in an odd way at his words.
"It did?" She asked, her eyes wide. Kyoji only hummed in response. Momo smiled softly at him. "Thanks." She said before laughing quietly. "You know, I don't even know your real name. I assume Hanzo is a code name." She commented.
"Kyoji." He answered, his eyes fixed on her face.
"Ah, Kyoji suits you more." She smiled, making the corners of Kyoji's lips curl up slightly too. "Thanks for saving me, I guess. And also for patching me up." She thanked him.
"It's a pleasure." He said and sent her an open smile. She didn't move and neither did he. They just looked at each other.
Kyoji saw Momo's eyes flicker to his lips, and his face went back to its usual poker face. Usually he would have backed away in situations like these, as things like this never end up happy for him. It's just something about Momo makes him force himself to want to go against his usual flight instinct.
"Fuck it." He thought. He moved forward and rested his hands on the table, either side of Momo. Her eyes widened slightly as she didn't think he would actually make a move. He towered over her and she looked up at his poker face which she found so attractive. He leaned down and closed his eyes before then pressing his lips against Momo's.
Momo was shocked at first, but then happily closed her eyes and kissed him back. He pulled away but lingered slightly, so there was only a couple centimetres of space between their lips.
Momo's hands moved up to his face and pulled him towards her, connecting their lips again.
The kiss lasted longer and Kyoji's hands moved from the table to Momo's small waist. Her hands started to move up to his hair as the kiss deepened and got more heated, but Kyoji moved away before it got out of hand in his opinion.
He moved his head back and looked down at Momo who was looking at him contently. He knew he shouldn't pursue this and in the back of his mind, relationships like this are weaknesses. He however made an effort to push this away, as he doesn't see himself weak enough for this to bring him down.
He sent her a lopsided smile and stepped back, holding his hand out.
"I'll drive you home." He said. She raised an eyebrow sceptically as she grabbed his hand and hopped off the table. "You can't walk home with no shoes on." He added and be kept hold of her small hand, intertwining their fingers without thinking.
Momo stared down at their laced up hands and couldn't help but feel a little giddy.
Kyoji led her down stairs and out the building to the car park. He unlocked his own expensive looking car and walked over to the passengers side where he opened the door for her. She giggled at his cute and outdated (in her eyes) gesture. He closed the door behind her before getting into the car himself.
"And who says chivalry is dead?" Momo joked, making Kyoji chuckle.
They chatted as he drove her to the small apartment complex she lived in. They stopped outside and Momo sighed as she looked at the familiar tower. She turned to Kyoji who was already looking at her, his face not as cold as usual.
"I'll see you soon hopefully." He said quietly. Momo smiled warmly and nodded.
"I'll make sure you do." She said happily, before leaning over quickly and kissed his lips once more.
She opened the car door and got out, squealing slightly at the cold marble under her bare feet. Kyoji chuckled at her awkward run and watched as she slouched when she got to the carpeted area outside the door.
Momo turned around and waved at him, which he returned, before walking through the heavy doors and to her apartment.
"What am I doing?" Kyoji groaned and wiped his face with both hands. He sighed and stared out in front of him. Shaking his head and pushing the 'what if' thoughts out of his head, he started the engine again and drove back to his own apartment. A soft smile present on his lips the whole drive.
