Chapter 23
(Get comfortable, 4400+ words ahead!)
_________
Taeyang grabbed the file full of information he'd gathered over the two days given to him and turned, heading for the door. He'd set up his own equipment from home since his got destroyed along with the building. He'd taken over half of Dae-Hyun and Min Seol's office space as a result. Dae-Hyun may not have been happy about it, but Min Seol convinced him that it's 'for the good of the firm' .
Taeyang strode to the door and went up the stairs, taking two steps at a time. Reaching to top he pushed open the doors to the makeshift boardroom where Ryota, Kyoji and Inha were sitting. He stopped at the end of the table and slid the file across the surface and Ryota stopped it and reached for the file.
He flicked through it and his eyes scanned across the information presented in front of him. He liked what he saw and couldn't help but show an open smirk and looked up at Taeyang.
"Everything you wanted?" Taeyang asked, smirking himself. Ryota flicked through the pages once again and let out a single deep chuckle.
He closed the file and set it down on the desk, looking back up at the smirking man in front of him.
"We leave tonight."
__________
"Everyone knows what they're doing?" Ryota asked everyone. They all nodded and he clasped his hands together. "Alright. Let's head out everyone." He said and everyone filed out the room.
Taeyang and Min Seol stayed behind and sat down in front of large screens that were filled with writing and colours. They handed out ear pieces to each member as they walked past them and left the room, walking out through the casino and went outside.
There were two large blacked out cars, one for each team. Yeonhee, Jae Eun, Kai Ling, Sohee, Dae-Hyun, and Ryota all got into the larger of the cars, Ryota at the wheel. The other group consisting of Minseo, Hyerim, Kyoji, and Inha got into the smaller of the two cars, Minseo at the wheel (despite Kyoji's protests).
They both pulled out and headed in different directions. The larger car headed towards the docks, and the smaller headed towards the airport.
________
"What's the plan of action?" Jae Eun asked. "Like, do we just stride into the dock casually with explosives or..?" He asked sarcastically.
"Yeah, basically." Sohee said and smiled. "We go to the docks a lot, we know how to get around there."
"Yeah, getting in shouldn't be an issue. It's finding the right ship and picking off The Nobodies' henchmen that usually turn up not long after the ship's docked that's the issue." Kai Ling added.
"Is it a big ship?" Ryota asked, his eyes focused on the road ahead of him.
"They usually are. They hide the drugs with other legitimate cargo to avoid suspicion. You can usually tell which are the drugs as they're marked, but I doubt we'll be checking as we'll be blowing the whole thing up." Kai Ling said with a light chuckle.
"Why don't we just improvise?" Dae-Hyun suggested. "I usually do." He added when most of the people in the car turned and glared at him.
"Yeah, and you usually only just avoid death each time too." Ryota joked. "Why don't Perle and Zero get you all into the actual dock part, Yoshi and Ace explode the ship, and Jäger and the rest of you help get rid of the incoming wave of Nobody henchmen -that lets presume- will be there?" He suggested.
"Let's do that. I don't like improvising." Jae Eun stated.
"That's because last time you improvised, it ended up nearly slicing you in half." Yeonhee chuckled and patted Jae Eun's head. He grumbled and moved his head away from her hand. "Let's just do that. Ace isn't any fun when he's not got structure to a job." Yeonhee said.
The others agreed and they talked tactics the rest of the drive there.
They pulled up and parked the large car behind the building Ryota decided to camp on top of. They all filed out and checked that they had all their weapons.
"Right, I'll provide cover from the top of this building. You know what you're doing right?" Ryota asked. Everyone nodded. "Try and be quick. I presume there will be Nobody guys coming in to collect their drugs and we don't want them to put number is too much."
"Hello?" Min Seol's voice asked into their ears. "Is it working? Wolf just told me I forgot to turn it on, I've been talking for a while. Thought you were all ignoring me." She explained and Dae-Hyun couldn't help but laugh.
"Yeah we can can hear you Sunny." He chuckled.
"Okay, good." She said, sounding a little annoyed. "You were right Zeno, there are people on their way to collect the drugs. Ever since this dispute thing, Kyungil has requested extra security when collecting these since he's been 'stolen' from already. So just expect company, and a lot of it." She told them.
"Got it." Ryota stated and started to head to the ladder leading to the flat roof of the building. "Good luck guys." He said before starting the climb, his sniper on his back. He gritted his teeth as his arm ached every time he pulled himself up a step, but he just tried to ignore it.
The others all walked towards the pier. Sohee and Kai Ling were at the front, leading the intimidating group.
"There's a guy there, we can't just casually walk past with guns poking out our fucking pants." Dae-Hyun said and laughed. Sohee looked back at him quickly, a cheeky grin on her small face.
"We know him." She said, something in her tone sounded suggestive.
"She knows him." Kai Ling clarified, making Sohee giggle quietly. "I barely know the guy." Her words made Dae-Hyun and Yeonhee make jeering noises in excitement.
"Oh Perle! You know him well hmm?" Yeonhee laughed and wrapped an arm around Sohee's shoulders, which Sohee pushed off with a whine.
"Guys, save this for later." Jae Eun stated and the others realised how close they were to the guy in question. They let it drop for now, slowing down so Sohee was now in the very front. They approached the guy and his face lit up a little as he saw Sohee in the large group approaching him.
"Hey Bobby." Sohee greeted with a sweet smile.
"Hey." He replied. "You need to take care of something again?" He assumed.
"Yep. It's cool I bring some other people right?" She asked, placing a delicate hand on his arm.
"Uh, yeah. Sure. Go ahead." He said and gestured for them to go onto the pier. The group walked past the two and started walking down the pier. Dae-Hyun and Yeonhee looked back and wiggled their eyebrows at the pair. Sohee just rolled her eyes and focused back on Bobby.
"I'll talk to you later okay? Just..." She started to say but couldn't think of the right way of wording it. "Just get off the pier tonight. It's not gonna be safe." She warned. Bobby's expression grimaced. "Please."
"Why? Is this not like your usual 'conflict'?" He asked.
"I think it would be better if you didn't know." She sighed. "Just please leave here Bobby." She begged. She looked expectingly at Bobby but he didn't move. She slouched and ran a hand through her hair. "Okay fine, but don't tell you I didn't warn you." She said as she started to walk away, pointing at Bobby's confused face. He watched her go and sighed as he did as she asked and went into the building she usually tells him is safe.
She jogged over to where the others were and stopped. Yeonhee turned and opened her mouth to say something to her but she was interrupted by Min Seol's voice.
"Do you see that big ass ship about to dock?" She asked. Everyone looked towards the black ocean and their eyes widened. They defiantly saw it now.
The large front of the ship was now gleaming and visible as the lights from the dock illuminated it. It got closer and closer and it made them all feel tiny.
"Get into cover you idiots, you can't just walk on." Min Seol told them and they all snapped out the trance the ship pulled them into. They ran over to some barrels and large wooden cargo boxes where they were hidden. The stacked boxes and tarp covering them made it so it was like a cave almost, and they were shielded from any light and exposure. No one would see them unless they were looking out for them.
"Ace and Yoshi go inside the ship and set it up from there. The ship's too big for the fucking stickies we were gonna put on the side of it to do any serious damage." Kai Ling said. The two nodded and readied themselves. Jae Eun pulling out a blade and a hand gun, and Yeonhee pulling out two blades; they got into a fighting stance. They need to be quiet so guns are pretty much a last minute option.
The ship finally stopped and docked. It wasn't too long before the boarding ladder linked the pier to the boat and workers started to file out the ship. They waited until the obvious innocents had left the ship before even thinking of moving.
Soon the majority had left the ship. When two guys hung around by the entrance looking as if they were waiting for someone, that's when Jae Eun and Yeonhee decided to go.
Yeonhee went first and Jae Eun followed behind, their weapons not obviously visible. She walked up to them and when they frowned at her she didn't even want to speak, she pulled her fist back quickly and punched one of them across the face, making him stumble back further into the boat. The other guy went to hit her back but Jae Eun caught his fist and pistol whipped him, knocking him out. They both entered the ship without too much trouble and went to set up the explosives.
Everything was going well until they heard Min Seol's voice again.
"Oh shit. I see a lot of cars heading your way guys." She informed them. "Oh fuck." She explained.
"What's wrong?" Kai Ling asked.
"You're basically surrounded. You got guys every angle." She told them. "You should be okay... I think. You've got cover and you're all good at fighting right?" She asked, sounding more like she's trying to assure herself rather than the members in actual danger. "I'll let you know if anyone's extra suspicious." She stated.
"Wow, thanks Sunny." Dae-Hyuk said sarcastically. He peeped up from his cover and saw as three large black and blue cars parked at the end of the dock. He went back into cover and just smiled to himself while his hands played with the cold metal of his brass knuckles in his jacket pockets. "We'll be fine." He stated.
"Always so sure of yourself." Sohee joked and peered up to the bit of land above them slightly and to their side where the road was. Her eyebrows raised as she saw car lights shining over the edge, telling her that they are truly surrounded. "Well fuck. I hope you're right." She muttered as she crouched back down into the shadows.
"You don't become this cocky from being wrong, Perle." Dae-Hyun joked and slid the metal on his fingers, removing his hands as the metal stopped just below his actual knuckles. "When they get closer, we jump them. This is a good spot we got here."
"What if they don't get closer?" Kai Ling asked in a hushed voice.
"Well then we run when Ace and Yoshi run. Simple." He stated with a confident grin. Sohee opened her mouth to speak but Kai Ling's hand covered it and prevented Sohee from speaking. At that moment there was a thud next to where they were hiding.
One of the henchmen had jumped down onto the pier from the raised bit of land, and was soon followed by more men. They casually strolled past where the three were hiding, their guns clearly visible. The two girls looked to Dae-Hyun, waiting for his first move.
His eyes narrowed at one of the men that was the closest to him. He tensed and balled his hand into a fist, his other stayed open.
He waited until he had his back to their hiding spot before he vaulted over the crates and donkey punched the guy in the back of his head. The man fell forward and the other men turned and looked at Dae-Hyun, who was now sprinting towards them.
Kai Ling and Sohee didn't hesitate and ran to help Dae-Hyun. Shouts from the other side of the pier could be heard and they knew that their cover was now defiantly blown.
Dae-Hyun swerved out of the firing line of one of the men's shots and ran towards him. Grabbing the hot barrel of the gun, he pointed it upwards and kneed the guy in the stomach. The man hunched over in pain and Dae-Hyun yanked the gun from the guys weaker hands. Getting a solid hold of the weapon, he slammed the handle of the AK across the man's head before punching him across the other side of his face. He could feel and hear the man's jaw break against his fist. The man stumbled, dazed and with blood dripping from him mouth. Dae-Hyun walked up to him and poked his forehead, making the man fall back and into the black water. He chuckled to himself before turning and smashing antoher guy in the face with his metal covered knuckles.
Sohee had her curved daggers out, one in each hand. It was too close for her to use her gun as she couldn't risk missing (which she never does) and hit another member instead. She lashed at one of the members who was aiming at Dae-Hyun and sliced his shoulder deeply. The man groaned in pain and turned, only to see Sohee's other blade coming towards his face. Her knife cut across his left cheek all the was to his right cheek. Blood started pouring madly and Sohee lashed with her other hand again, slicing the man's throat. She heard running foot steps becoming louder behind her, and before the other man's dead body hit the concrete pier, she turned quickly and crouched down. Her knife came into contact with someone's knee, piercing it and causing the man to practically scream. She quickly twisted the blade in the guys knee before letting it go and slashing the man's chest. Blood poured he fell to the floor, slowly dying from the blood loss caused by the pretty girl.
Sohee looked up and saw Kai Ling fighting two guys at once. The younger grabbed her knife that was still lodged in the man's knee, pulling it out and then sprinted towards one of the guys trying to kill Kai Ling. As she got closer to her target, she put one blade into the holder on her thigh and twirled the one knife around in her hand, so the blade was pointing down when she held it. The man hadn't noticed her yet and that worked to Sohee's advantage. She leaped up towards to man and wrapped her legs around his waist, grabbing his head with her other hand and exposed the man's shoulder and neck. The man gasped and before he knew what was even happening she was stabbing him repeatedly in the exposed flesh on his neck. The man fell over and Sohee calmly got up. Wiping some blood from her lip with the back of her even bloodier hand, making it worse if anything.
Kai Ling focused her attention onto the one man she was now fighting. She had scratched his arms up with her nails but the man was quick and could dodge her attacks easily. She's already kicked his gun off the pier and now they were fighting, bare knuckle.
The man had strong swings, but Kai Ling was also quick. She dodged each attack and lashed out herself as he was still following through with his punches. The man was pretty beaten up but he would go down. Kai Ling became annoyed at the man's resilience and got fed up. She kicked his thigh with tremendous strength and caught the man off guard. The man cried out at the pain from the kick and lost his balance for a moment. He teetered to the side and lost his focus for a second too long. Kai swiped at him and four of her nails etched deep red lines across the man's face, one catching his eye. He screamed and covered his damaged eye, forgetting about the fight as his mind was clouded with thoughts of the pain and how to stop it. Kai reached down to him as he collapsed to his knees and grabbed him by the throat, her nails digging into his skin. Her talon like nails pierced the skin and the man started to choke, from both her tight hold and from the talons that were tearing at his throat.
She looked and saw that the other men were busy fighting so she dragged him to the edge of the pier and lifted him to his feet. He swayed as his legs had turned to jelly and were starting to buckle underneath him. His bloody hands now trying to pry Kai's hands off his bleeding neck. Kai frowned at him before clasping her hands tighter and suddenly pulled them away from his throat, pulling small chunks of his jugular with them. The man started to choke on his own blood and Kai punched him square in the face, making him fall over the side and sink deeper into the darkness of the salty waves.
Dae-Hyuk smiled openly as he saw her basically rip the guys throat out with her bare hands and laughed into the face of the guy he was fighting. He punched him across the face and did the same again when he stumbled to the side. The man was now in the floor and Dae-Hyun grabbed a fist of his hair and repeatedly slammed the guys face into the concrete again and again until there was barely anything there that you could consider facial features.
"You're fucking brutal Jäger, you know that right?" Ryota's voice said into everyone's ears.
"Oh of course." He chuckled as he tackled another man and started to press his fingers into the man's eyes.
"Alright, no need to take it too far. I always forget how brutal you are until I see you in action." He added as he watched the scene through his scope, as he'd picked off the henchmen at the other side of the pier.
Yeonhee and Jae Eun had started to set up the bomb where they presumed was the centre of the ship. They didn't need to speak as they had done this many time before in past missions. They worked flawlessly, handing each other the wires they needed and easily setup the bomb quickly.
"How long we setting this one for?" Jae Eun asked.
"Like... A minute?" Yeonhee suggested and Jae Eun frowned. "What?" She questioned.
"We need to get off the ship and run far enough away that we don't get caught in the explosion, and you think we can do that in a minute?" He asked in a patronising voice. Yeonhee stared back with her mouth open and a blank expression. She couldn't see the issue.
"Yeah. Well when the adrenaline kicks in we'll be Usain Boltin' out of here won't we?" She said as if it was obvious.
"No. Set it for two minutes."
"One."
"Two."
"One."
"Two!" Jae Eun yelled and Yeonhee yanked the wires from his hands expectingly and joined them together, quickly setting the timer for a minute and a half before rushing to her feet. "What the f-"
"Meet in the middle! Let's go dude! Fucking Usain Bolt!" She yelled as she ran down the narrow metal corridors of the ship. Jae Eun scrambled to his feet before following behind her closely. As they ran he pulled out of of the larger sticky bombs and stuck it to the wall of one of the corridors, you know, just in case.
They leaped off the ship, completely vaulting the boarding ladder and skidded onto the concrete that was now littered with bodies and was painted red with blood.
"Run!" Yeonhee yelled and sprinted down the pier, Jae Eun right behind her. The three fighting lifted their heads up like meerkats and saw the pair pacing down the to the dock. They suddenly dropped their fighting stances and didn't hesitate to run in the same direction. They all -apart from Kai Ling and Jae Eun- had a huge grin on their faces as they ran for their lives, basically.
They didn't get too far away when the sound of an explosion shook them.
"Oh my god guys! Run run run run!" Min Seol screamed into their ears, hurting their ear drums. "The explosion is huge!"
Dae-Hyun who was at the back, looked behind him and his eyes widened is shock and in awe as a large orange cloud of smoke and fire started to chase them. His legs started to move faster and he placed all of his energy into his thighs, but he was tiring, and quickly. The group in from of him started to become further and further away. He gritted his teeth and grunted as he pushed his body harder and harder. His back starting to feel the heat and the force of the explosion, pushing him a little.
He caught up slightly but before he could even celebrate as they were so close to the dock, he heard a second explosion.
"Guys!" Was all they heard from Min Seol before all their bodies were propelled forward. They managed to jump up instinctively and they went flying towards the solid land of the dock entrance.
Everyone hit the ground hard and they all groaned as their bodies slammed against the floor. Dae-Hyun groaned and rolled onto his back, his face scrunched together in pain and his whole body felt completely drained of energy. He just lay there, trying to control the pain all over his body and regain what energy he could muster up.
The other members got to their feet and looked back to where there was a big ass cargo ship. In its place there remained smoke and floating crates that had flames eating up what wood was left. Yeonhee screamed in excitement and clapped her hands together. Sohee started to laugh as she'd never done anything like that before, it felt great.
"Guys, more people are rolling up. Either square up or get the fuck out." She informed them.
"Get out. I'll pick them off, you all get in the car. I'll come down and drive when it's clear." Ryota's authoritative voice told them.
He looked down the scope and located the two cars. He easily shot the drivers out and the cars came to a halt as they crashed into the signs with the docks name on it. He wasn't satisfied with that and saw the other people in the car start to clamber out the crushed vehicles.
He searched the car for its gas tank and smirked as he pulled the trigger on his sniper. It took a second before it got a direct hit and exploded the car, along with the one that crashed into it. He let out a single and satisfied laugh before he got up from his prone position and strapped the sniper to his back before climbing down the ladder as fast as his injured arm would let him.
"Jäger, get up." Sohee's distressed voice said. She was tugging on his arm to try and get him to at least sit up, but it was no use. He groaned in pain that Sohee had never seen him in before. Jae Eun ran over and patted Sohee on the back. "Ace he won't get up! He's a dead weight." She said worriedly.
Jae Eun frowned and got on the other side of Dae-Hyun, grabbing his arm and crouched down, throwing Hyun's arm over his shoulder. He slowly started to lift himself up from his crouched position and raised Dae-Hyun with him. Sohee did her best to help, even though she knew she wasn't making much of a difference.
"He can't even walk." Kai Ling commented as she turned to see the two struggling to drag Dae-Hyun along with them.
"Thanks for that observation. That will really help us. Thanks Zero." Jae Eun snapped back in a sarcastic tone as he struggled to carry the dead weight to the car. Kai Ling smiled sarcastically before flipping him off and pushing all thoughts she had of helping them out of her head.
Ryota jogged around the building and headed to the car. He stopped as he saw the two carrying Dae-Hyun.
"What happened to him?" He asked concerned.
"Nothing! He's not injured from what it seems. I'm really confused." Sohee explained, looking sad she she turned to see Dae-Hyun's head lowered and his face scrunched up in pain.
"Get him in the car, we'll figure it out when we know we're safe." He ordered and got into the drivers seat.
The two eventually got Dae-Hyun to the car and Yeonhee helped haul his heavy body onto the seat, his head rating in Yeonhee's lap. He took up two seats which meant Sohee had to sit on Kai Ling's lap for the ride home. She felt pained whenever Dae-Hyun let out a cry of pain.
She's never seen him so vulnerable and it really upset her. Yeonhee soothingly stroked his forehead that was starting to sweat in an attempt to help calm him a little, but it seemed to be doing nothing.
Sohee always saw him as the strongest member, both physically and mentally. Seeing him like this was an eye opener that everyone here is vulnerable.
Kai Ling saw her distressed expression and wrapped her arms around her small waist, back hugging her. Sohee rested her hand on top of Kai's as a silent 'thanks'. She was glad she had her Unnie to look out for her at least.
