Dinner Date-Part 2

"Is there anything you two would like to start off with to drink?" Justin set out their menus, smiling annoyingly all the while.

"Water, no ice." said Otis rather stiffly.

"I'll have raspberry lemonade if you have any."

"We most certainly do." Justin replied jotting down their orders. At his reply, Olympia gave a small giggle, although there was clearly nothing funny about this statement.

"You can look over your menus and I'll be back with your drinks." Justin gave a too-perfect smile before heading away from their table.

Olympia watched him leave before opening her menu. Otis was staring determinedly at his own menu although his eyes weren't moving.

"What do you think I should get?" Olympia was not always the best at making decisions. The process of deciding usually went faster when Otis tried to help her. However, Otis was feeling particularly unhelpful at the moment.

"I don't know. Maybe you should ask Justin."

Instead of thinking that something was wrong Olympia brightened at this idea. "You're right! He probably knows exactly what the best food is here! Good idea Otis."

"No problem." Otis stared hard at his menu, bitterness rising in his chest.

Before long Justin returned. "Water for you." He plunked the water in front of Otis, "And raspberry lemonade for you miss...um what's your name?"

"Olympia." Olympia gave another ridiculous giggle and Otis felt his stomach clench. This date—um, dinner was going horribly wrong.

"Justin, we were wondering what you would suggest eating here. You've probably tried everything at least once, or maybe you somehow know what people like best because you've served certain things lots of times." She said this all very fast.

Justin leaned close to her to examine her menu. "Personally I would recommend the Lasagna. It's a classic and totally delicious."

"Thanks, Justin. I'll have that." Olympia smiled at him.

"And what can I get for you—um, what's your name again?"

"Otis" Otis scowled at him.

"You guys are some of those Odd Squad agents, right?" Justin directed this question to Olympia.

"Yeah, how did you know?"

"The names gave it away." Justin flashed a perfect smile at her.

Otis cleared his throat.

"Oh, sorry." Justin spun around just remembering Otis's presence. "What did you want to eat?"

"I'll have spaghetti. No sauce. Just pasta." Otis glared as threateningly as possible at Justin.

"Great!" Justin didn't bother to write down their simple orders, "I'll be back with that in a bit. Oh, and by the way, there will be dancing later if either of you are interested. We have it for customers once a week."

"Oh! That sounds awesome!" Olympia's face lit up with excitement.

"I thought you'd be excited." Justin winked before strolling away.

Dancing. What a disgusting word. Otis stopped himself. Actually, dancing wasn't that bad. When you're alone in headquarters and turn up Soundcheck really loud, things can get pretty awesome. But ballroom dancing in a restaurant? Not so much.

After a fairly silent meal, the miniature band on the other side of the room struck up a tune and couples began to gather on the wooden dance floor. Otis supposed the right thing to do would be to ask Olympia to dance. She was gazing eagerly at the dance floor. Just as he was opening his mouth to ask her an annoyingly cheery voice interrupted him.

"Would you like to dance, Olympia?"

Justin was smiling down at her, his hand outstretched. Olympia glanced for half a second at Otis before getting to her feet. "I'd love to!"

Justin escorted her to the busy dance floor and, giving his blonde hair a flip, began to dance with her. Otis had the uncontrollable urge to punch something. Why did he ever think taking Olympia out to dinner was a good idea anyways? Of course something like this would happen. Moodily he glared out the dark window at the rain which had begun to slap against the glass. Finding that it was not very comforting to stare at rain, Otis glance back at the dance floor. He could not see Olympia.

Because of the brooding mood he was in, it took a few moments before Otis noticed something rather odd happening to the crowd of dancers. One by one loud pops were issuing from the dance floor followed by surprised screams. Several people had fallen down and were struggling to stand upright again. Otis thought these people must be very clumsy until he noticed the cause of their falling.

The people who had fallen down had giant salmon where their feet should have been. The salmon-feet were slapping around in every direction making it impossible for the people connected to them to stand. Otis sat frozen, staring at the dance floor as more and more people toppled downward with large fish eyes bulging from where their ankles should be. It was all rather disgusting.

Then the important question entered his mind. Who or what was causing this? How could he stop it? Where in the world was Olympia?

In answer to his last question, a red ponytail streamed out of the crowd headed for the exit. He caught a glimpse of Olympia's face as she hurried away, she seemed to be in tears. Otis threw down his napkin and stood to rush after her when someone caught his attention over on the dance floor. There was only one person left standing by now.

Justin stood amidst the fish-footed people and grinned psychotically at Otis. The smile that had seemed perfect and dazzling moments before now had a strange insaneness about it.

"Your partner was extremely helpful, Otis. Make sure to give her my thanks." Justin let out a small chuckle.

"What did you do to her?" Otis snarled through clenched teeth.

Justin did not reply but gave another annoying chuckle. "I suppose you're wondering why I gave all these people fish feet."

"No, I wasn't actually." Otis's mind was working fast. He knew he had an un-fish-inator gadget but he had only used it on people with fish-hands before. He figured feet were close enough to the same thing but he hesitated and did not pull out the gadget.

"Your partner gave me some valuable information concerning the place where you work; Odd Squad." The fish villain (he had officially deserved that title by now) took a few steps closer and Otis noticed a small red device clutched in his hand. "These fish-feet are just a distraction for me to make a quick get away."

With a sudden jerky movement, the fish villain fired his gadget at Otis and sprinted towards the exit. Otis fell to the ground as large salmon replaced his feet making it impossible to stand. Quickly Otis drew the un-fish-inator from his back and zapped the salmon, which glowed blue for a second before returning to feet.

Hastily, Otis fixed the other fish-footed people and amongst the many 'thank yous' and pats on the back he pushed his way towards the exit and outside.

It was still raining out. It was not an overpowering storm just a steady shower and in seconds Otis was drenched. His brain struggled to process what had just happened. There was a new villain on the loose and he claimed to have information about Odd Squad. Ms. O had to be warned. The sooner this guy was caught, the better. Then he remembered Olympia.

In an instant, Otis was jogging through the rain in the direction of her house. This entire night could not have gone more wrong. Before long he reached Olympia's front door and pounded on it. He listened for the sound of footsteps but could only hear the soft splattering noise of the rain. He blinked and wiped rainwater out of his eyes. This didn't help much as more rain simply trickled down from his sopping hair.

He pounded desperately on the door once again. This time it opened.

Olympia had changed out of her red dress. She was wearing a pair of pink sweatpants and an old T-shirt. Her hair was dripping wet. Her eyes were red and puffy. Tears leaked from them making wet tracks down her cheeks.

Otis felt his heart break, "Olympia, what happened?"

"I-I, Otis I'm so sorry." Her lip quivered. "That Justin...I don't know what happened...I'm so sorry...I was terrible to you."

"It's okay, forget about it." Otis was glad for her apology but was more concerned about what had happened to her. "What did Justin do to you?"

"He-he seemed so nice...and he started asking questions about Odd Squad, stuff like who was in charge and where headquarters was..." Olympia stuttered, "Then he asked where the tube entrances were, but I told him we weren't supposed to tell people that." Tears continued to stream down her cheeks. "B-but he kept asking a-and he was so nice and I thought I could tell him just a few...and, oh Otis...I told him where five of the entrances were..." She was unable to continue for a moment. "Then he laughed at me and pulled out this gadget and starting turning everyone's feet into fish and I realized he was a villain...Ms. O is going to k-kill me."

She broke into silent sobs.

"Olympia, you made a mistake. Ms. O's not going to kill you for that." Otis took a step towards her. "She might yell a little, but she's always yelling. There'll be ways to fix what happened."

"N-no there won't." Olympia wailed, "He'll tell the other villains and they'll invade headquarters and Odd Squad will be ruined. It's all my fault. Everyone will remember me as the agent who r-ruined Odd Squad. And no one will ever like me again and I'll probably have to live in a dark hole as punishment for the rest of my life—

As Otis stood, sopping wet in the cold rain, watching Olympia ranting endlessly about one little mistake she had made, he didn't speak a word. Instead of shouting or trying to interrupt her as he normally did, he stepped forward and kissed her.

She was caught completely off guard.

After a few seconds Otis drew back, surprisingly his face did not turn bright red.

"Otis...w-we just...you just..." Olympia stuttered, her tears had ceased. "We just kissed!"

In reply to this, he leaned forward and kissed her again. Otis had never imagined what his first kiss would be like but he would have never expected it to be with a tear-stained Olympia at night in the middle of a cold rain shower. But, somehow, this all made it more perfect.

Otis pulled away gently. "Olympia, you're going to be just fine, okay?"

All she could do was nodded mutely.

"There's no way I'm letting you get kicked of Odd Squad. We'll have the tube entrances you told the villain about shut down. Everything is going to be fine."

"Thank you." Was all Olympia could manage to say.

"So see you tomorrow at work then...." Otis suddenly felt the long-overdue blush creeping into his cheeks.

"Y-yeah. I'll see you then." A broad smile was beginning to spread across Olympia's face. "Thanks for everything Otis." Her eye's brimming with joy, Olympia gave one last wave before closing her door.

As Otis turned to walk home he heard a loud "YES!!!" and high-pitched squeal as Olympia celebrated inside. Otis smiled to himself. And then it hit him.

He had just kissed Olympia. Twice!

A ridiculously happy grin spread over his face. As the rain began to let up and moonlight punctured some of the dark clouds, Otis couldn't stop smiling. This night really hadn't been so terrible after all.

Once again, I can't thank each and every one of you enough for taking the time to read my story! I'm bringing this story to a close for now. If an episode ever comes out about Otis's past (it better happen. Come on OS writers!) I would love to write a story banking off of that. Until then, however, this is where I leave you. Never stop being awesome! --Sara S.
