Daddy called...

He always had...

To check on us...

To make sure that we were doing what we (I) was supposed to be doing...

I hadn't gotten in any trouble since Mama had gotten sick...

Still he kept watch over me to make sure that I wouldn't slip up...

We're coming home...

When I asked...

"We'll be there tomorrow night. But she's going to have to check into the hospital as soon as we fly in" he said emotionlessly...

When can we see her???

I'll let you know...

Something was wrong and I knew it...

She had just gone back after her birthday...

They had never been gone for such a short amount of time and she always came home first...

"What's wrong???" my older sister asked...

Mama's coming home tomorrow...

"You need to clean up...", she said...

No! She'll be checking into the hospital as soon as they get here...

"That's not right..." she said as she sat down beside me...

Daddy called the next night and asked if I would come and pick him up...

I asked if I could see Mama and he told me that they had just gotten her comfortable and that she was sleeping...

My mind was made up!!!

I was going to see my Mama that next morning and nothing or nobody was going to stop me!!!

I got up early and got Pat ready for school...

I dropped her off and headed to school...

It was Friday and Friday was always test day...

My only class that I needed the credit in was Literature and I had it first period....

After my test I hurried to the office to check out...

As my luck would have the regular attendance secretary who I normally dealt with was out...

The lady taking her place accused me of lying about Mama dying and questioned the change in contact information that I had set up at beginning of the year...

So she refused to check me out...

This is not going to be a good day I thought to myself as I proceeded to raise hell!!!
