APPEARANCE: Tanek is a lilac-colored Twi'Lek with a lekku structure similar to Bib Fortuna-  his lekku rest high atop his head and his crest is large.  One striking feature that separates him from the Twi'Lek norm is a birth defect, one where his lekku merge into one halfway down his back. Because of this, Tanek doesn't rely much on lekku gestures, making his emotions harder to understand from an outsiders perspective.  He has high cheekbones and violet eyes, and, after he became free at the age of 20, Tanuk sharpened his teeth to show his status.

PERSONALITY: When he was young, Tanek was outgoing and excited by the simplest things. He had a natural curiosity and a desire to watch out for others, like his little sister, Vera and his cousin Alem. When he became a slave with the rise of the Empire at the age of five, Tanek's caring mannerisms faded away, especially after he and his sister were separated. From then on he mostly cared about his own well-being and looked out mostly for himself. After becoming free, Tanek developed an almost feral personality to get by.  He's sociable when needed, though mostly keeps to himself around the rebel base. Fighting the Empire is an outlet for his anger, and he has a habit of checking imperial data terminals for information on his missing family.  A side fact about him is that he has obsessive compulsive disorder based on numbers- especially the number three.

BACKGROUND:  Tanek was born in 24 BBY on a small farm on Ryloth.  He grew up with a sort of love-hate relationship with his little sister, Vera, who was four years younger. He and his cousin got into all kids of trouble and had a strong bond.
The Empire took over when he was five years old and his family, along with other Rylothians, were forced into slavery off-planet.  Tanek, Vera, and Alem were sold to an imperial elite on Naboo and worked as laborers for eight years.  At the age of twelve most slaves are hand picked to work in services for their beauty. Tanek was turned down due to his defect, but Vera was chosen a few years later. Since then they have been separated and haven't seen each other since.
Tanek continued hard labor jobs until he was sold and moved, taken to Tatooine to work as a junk scavenger.  Life was strenuous and rough on the desert planet, and he was set to be sold yet again after failing to complete his quota for days. When he was put on the podium up for auction Tuskens raided the small town for supplies and Tanek made a run for it.
He managed to find his way aboard a spice freighter leaving for the core world. The pilot, a rough around the edges Rodian, allowed Tanek to stay as long as he pulled his weight. With a new job and a life of freedom, he began to get a feel of how terrible the Empire was for the galaxy and its inhabitants. Tanek hopes to join the rebellion one day and find his missing sister, cousin, and mother and release them from slavery.
