Overcome-End
That night had to have been the best one you'd ever had. Sexually at least. Killer dedicated himself to your pleasure and even when you felt like you couldn't take anymore, he kept going. It gave a new meaning to seeing stars for you by the time you were done.
In the morning, Kid didn't mention once the ruckus you made. It was nice he had enough of a soft spot for you right now to have some patience. The crew did make it a point to mention your improved mood, though not all of it had to do with the love making. You and Killer spent more time talking afterwards and it helped you feel more confident, no matter how things went.
"How you feeling (Y/n)?" Heat asked over breakfast. He and Wire were sat across from you. Killer was to your right and Kid to your left.
"Good actually." You answered.
"You should ask her why she feels good." Kid snickered, nudging you with his elbow.
Heat didn't even say anything, he just stared at you and waited for an explanation.
Killer ended up answering for you. "Best sex of her life. I'm surprised you guys couldn't hear us."
"The best benefit of sleeping below deck." Wire grumbled back.
"That keep it down rule applies again just so you two know." Kid pointed his fork at you sternly. "And if I have to come in there again like it did before, I will split you up and dunk feath– (Y/n) into the damn sea."
He was still adjusting to not using the nickname, though you wouldn't mind him using it again when you got your new pair of wings. For old times sake.
"Again?" Heat tilted his head questioningly. "It happened before?"
"Yeah, he took his sweet time though, we were done when he came in." Killer said flatly.
"They don't need to know details." You blushed.
"Seconded." Wire nodded.
"Oh I can tell'em details." Kid grinned widely. "What position I found you in and all."
"You wouldn't dare." You were ready to throw down if it meant shutting him up.
He turned to Heat and Wire. "When I walked in, Killer got a face full of ti–its."
Kid groaned in pain after you kicked him in the shin. He glared at you and you jumped out of your seat, something between a giggle and a squeal leaving your lips as he started chasing after you.
"Aren't you going to save her?" Wire asked Killer.
"Yeah." Your lover rose from his seat slowly. "It's good seeing her like this again."
"Sure is, but I'd go save her quick before Kid makes good on his threats of giving her a salt water bath if I were you."
Killer did his shoulder shaking chuckle as he headed after you and Kid.
----
"How does it feel?" Killer stood in front of you and you knew he could see the answer written all over your face.
It hurt like hell, but it would keep your new wings in place and connect them to what was left of your old ones under the skin. Kid tugged at the apparatus and you winced.
"Doesn't feel great but I'll live." You hissed.
The piece hugged your back and curved around your sides to rest right about where your breasts started. It fit you well and the metal was cool against your skin. The part that hurt was where it pierced through your scar tissue to reach the spots your wings should have started at. The area was still tender and the sharp, needle like pieces that went in did not do anything to ease the pain.
"You can't control metal so I needed to make a more permanent solution to connecting the wings." Kid explained. "This can technically be removed but putting it back on will be a pain in the ass every time. The same will go for the wings themselves."
"I'd rather leave it on anyway." You moved your arms around and rolled your shoulders, liking how the piece didn't get in the way of basic movements. "Can I see the wings now?"
You were very excited for them. If they were anything like Kid's arm, you were going to have a field day.
"Yes but first," Kid held up a finger for you to pause. "I need you to understand I still don't think they'll work for flight. I made them as light as possible to match the weight of the old set but I can only do so much without making the metal brittle or too soft. Long story short; they're still heavy. You can try but I doubt you'll get far."
You nodded. "Okay."
"...That's it?" Killer asked. Even with the mask you could guess how confused he had to look.
"Yeah." You shrugged. "I've been planning on never flying again. I just want something there. I want to have wings again."
The men shared a look and then Kid continued. They still thought you'd have lingering hope but you'd had enough time to work yourself through it mentally. Acceptance was key and you were almost ready to move on.
"If that's the case, I think you'll like what I've done with them." Kid disappeared into his workshop for a moment and came back with your new wings. He unfurled one and balanced it on the ship's railing for you to examine.
It was more than you could have ever wanted. They were a bit smaller than your old set. A precaution Kid took to keep them from ever dragging on the ground when you were at your full height. You didn't know a single thing about metal work but whatever he had used for the feathers was perfect. They were made of a shiny black metal that reflected the light and hinted at shades of blue and purple if you looked at them from different angles. And as you ran your hands down them, you realized the sides of the feathers were kept dull, safe to touch, while the tips were sharp enough to pierce through flesh easily.
"You may not be able to fly." Kid repeated himself. "But I made the wings into weapons. With a bit of practice, you can launch feathers at your enemies and reattach them to use again."
"That's... incredible." Your eyes widened as you inspected where the feathers connected to the limb and found they indeed could be taken out and put back in.
The main parts of the limb were reminiscent of Kid's arm, all slightly bulky moving parts that would, in theory, make everything work. But he still made it all look beautiful. Every surface that was big enough for it had delicate carvings. The design reminded you of vines or other creeping plants, all long swirling lines and soft shapes. If you looked at it carefully, there was a whole flow to it. And you'd never pegged Kid as the artistic type.
"Kid, these are perfect." You looked up to your captain, eyes gleaming.
"Good. Cause I'm not making another set. This was a real pain in the ass and I went though a lot of good pieces of metal for this." He growled, shoving one wing at Killer to hold while he walked around behind you with the other. "I'm connecting this on three."
You nodded, steeling yourself for it.
"Three." He chuckled and shoved it in to place.
You don't know why you thought he'd actually count but you were ready for it either way. A drawn out hiss left you from the pain of it connecting to everything but it didn't last long.
"Make it do something." Kid commanded after tugging at the wing base to make sure it was in properly. The action had you stumbling back into him but you held your ground.
"Gimme some space." You stepped away and he did as you asked with a scowl. If it wasn't his project he would've probably snapped at you for that.
You took a moment to fully appreciate the weight of the single wing. It had you feeling lopsided but that'd be fixed as soon as you had the other one in as well. Kid was right about it being heavy too. It tugged at your back a little uncomfortably but it'd be better when you had it resting properly. Right now it was completely open and draped down to the floor. You weren't sure exactly how to make it move but assumed it'd be the same way you made the old set move. It was just another limb after all.
The wing twitched as you started to go through the motions and before you knew it, you had it raised off the floor and were giving it a couple test flaps. In that moment, you knew Kid was right again. This wouldn't be able to fly. Real feathers were much more slim than the ones you had now. And flexable. That flexibility was necessary and these feathers lacked that. If they were made any more delicate than they were now, it wouldn't have worked though. You really had asked for your captain to fill quite the tall order and though it wasn't exactly what you had hoped for when you originally asked, he did an amazing job providing you with what he did.
When you had it folded up properly, you were eyeing the other wing, ready to have the complete set on.
Kid took note and grabbed it from Killer, this time putting it in without warning. You let out a small gasp from the surprise and both wings shuffled along your back in response. It was muscle memory. The old pair used to always do the same thing when you hurt yourself.
"Holy hell they work." You giggled and brought a wing out in front of you to touch.
A few test flaps proved the set was too heavy to pull you off the ground but it stirred up a bit of a wind.
The crew had slowly been coming on deck to watch and they were all positively beaming. You wondered if they were the same way with Kid and his mechanical arm.
"Looks like the Archangel is back in action." Killer stepped around you, taking in the full view. He had to be smiling under that pesky mask.
"Not until she figures out how to use them right." Kid grumbled. "You better get them down soon Feathers."
The nickname that used to annoy you at times now only made you all the happier. You felt whole again, even if it wasn't quite the same.
"I'll help you out with that." Killer whispered from behind you. He tugged at the base of both wings and you felt a heat creep up your face.
The metal couldn't feel even if it could move. But you swore you could still feel his hands wrapped around were the wings began, the spot that used to be so sensitive to his touch before.
"I'm looking forward to it." You purred.
"Are you all done or should we just make camp here?" A voice called from the dock your ship was waiting at.
Hawkins stood by, watching the scene with a very dull look on his face. Scratchmen was beside him, frowning and tapping his foot impatiently. Kid had finished the wings right before meeting up with them and wanted to see if they worked before heading out to finalize plans.
"We're done." You answered for Kid, rolling your eyes at the captains.
Hawkins had noted his prediction had come true when he saw you again but didn't say anything. You held a bit of anger towards him, though none of this was really his fault. Maybe part of you was still bitter about it all but you weren't surprised. It'd take time to fully adjust to the change but you were well on your way. The New World was unforgiving and you'd experienced that first hand. That didn't mean it was ever going to stop you.
"Killer, Feathers, you're with me. Everyone else, keep the ship in order." Kid marched on to the docks and you and Killer followed close behind, your lover sliding his hand in yours.
You kept behind the captains, enjoying the moment as it was. Things were different now and you didn't doubt there'd be some other change in the future as well. That was just how things worked in this world and you were okay with that.
The ocean could have your old wings back. With Killer beside you, and a whole crew behind you, you were ready for anything.
(A/n)
I probably could have finished this yesterday but I wanted to sleep on it and make sure I liked ending it here and I really do. It's a smooth transition into what everyone knows would happen next and I feel it'd start to suffer if I went into cannon one piece details. I hope you guys liked it as well~
