On to Falsea

(A/n)
Went through the entirety of this book to edit and refresh myself on the storyline yesterday~ It doesn't have too much longer till it's done and then I'll have a new one out. I'm thinking my Marco X Reader one since it has a couple chapters already put together.

While you and Killer had your own private party, the castle was alive with the rest of the pirates celebrating the alliance. The best part of it all was you two could be as noisy as you wanted without anyone throwing a fit. Killer definitely took advantage of that. But the worst part was everyone was still partying and making a ruckus long after you were done. You were all tuckered out yet couldn't get to sleep. Killer had no problem though. Not long after you cuddled up after sex, he passed out and was snoring away in your ear. Play hard, sleep hard.

It wasn't until things settled down a bit before daybreak that you were able to get some rest. You could've joined the festivities instead of laying awake by your lover but you were afraid of waking him and honestly weren't all that interested in socializing with everyone. It was interesting getting to know how restless he actually slept anyway. He'd stay in one position for maybe an hour and then flop around to a new one. At one point he wouldn't stop following you around the bed, hell-bent on using you like a body pillow. You let him after a while and took the time to enjoy his need to cuddle even while asleep. You'd never tell the rest of the crew about it.

The little bit of sleep you did get didn't last long. Killer got up well rested and assumed you were too when he started kissing you awake until you were grumbling for him to leave you alone. It was unusual for you to wake up in such a mood and he immediately began bugging you to figure out what caused it.

"Grumpy aren't we?"

You were on your belly while he straddled you, massaging around the base of your wings and making them spread involuntarily.

"I just got to sleep maybe two hours ago." You groaned, both from his touch and the lack of real rest.

"Was everyone up that long?"

"At least half of them. And I'd bet money most of it was Scratchmen's crew."

"I don't doubt that." He put enough pressure on one spot to get a deep pop from your joints. "You can get some sleep when we get back on the ship."

"That sounds great." You stretched your arms out as Killer got something else to pop. It got pretty stiff around your wings over time and he knew exactly what to do to release that tension.

"The crew already got all our essentials on the ship yesterday so we'll be good to go after our guests leave." He bent down to brush his lips along the nape of your neck.

"The hard part will be getting them up."

"Nah, Kid'll want them gone. It'll be fast." Killer got up now that he'd melted away your moodiness with the short massage.

"I hope so." You got up with him and began getting ready for the day. It was going to be a long one if you couldn't find the time to slip back into bed on the ship.

----

It was a few days to reach Falsea and the ship was abuzz with talk about putting down a yonko and the alliance. You were with Kid, having more interest in the next island. Not that you were super excited to go to it, but it was next on the agenda and therefore, earned more of your attention. Kid was hoping there'd be some sort of challenge there to sate his never ending bloodlust.

In the time it took to get to the island, the ship was pretty much business as usual. There were always chores to be done, you'd help Killer cook or spend time with Cypher. The two of you had made a game of flying around the ship. He'd do slow, lazy circles and let you do your tricks and maneuvers around him. The wyvern was much smarter than you gave him credit for and even learned when you wanted him to fly a certain way every time you wanted to change things up.

You were actually spending some time in the air with him when Falsea started to come into view. It was no more than a speck against the horizon but you knew that was exactly what you were looking at. Cypher got the hint that you were done when you landed back in the ship's deck and he grasped at his perch, hanging from it to watch you approach Kid at the helm.

"The island's in sight." You said.

Killer was with him and they both turned to you, a slight shift in the air as they became excited. Even your partner was itching to go do something interesting. Life at sea did get a tad dull at times.

"Good." Kid's eyes gleamed. "Is it close enough to scout?"

"Yeah. I can check it out and be back before the ship reaches it."

"Go do that."

"Want company?" Killer offered.

You would've taken him up on that but it would be faster to go by yourself. You shook your head.

"Nah, I'll make it snappy."

"Be safe and take your bow with you." He gave you a quick squeeze. The fear from your time missing from the ship was still nagging at him and some of the other men. You were glad they were finally letting you get back to your usual flying habits but it wasn't without them sending you off with plenty of warnings and reminders.

"I'll be right back." You smiled reassuringly and headed to your shared bedroom to get your stuff.

Ever since you'd fixed up the quiver, you hadn't had a single chance to use your bow. Maybe you'd get to today. The practice was much needed.

Once you were sure everything was secure, you slung it all across your back and took off. Cypher watched you leave, cooing softly in your direction until you were out of sight.

As you got closer to it, you realized the island was much bigger than you anticipated. It'd take a little longer to check out but you could still have it done before the ship reached it and get back with enough time to relay what you found. It was pretty flat, no mountains or ravines to be seen, just a huge expanse of dense jungle. Birds took to the skies around you, filling your vision with a rainbow of feathers. There were more animal cries from below than you could figure out. All you could tell was the place was overflowing with life.

Cutting through the island center was a wide river and you decided it was best to follow it. If there were any settlements here they'd be near that. And you might be able to catch sight of some of the wildlife below, figure out if any of it would be dangerous. You dipped low enough to reach out and touch the tree tops and went as slow as you could, taking everything in.

A tiger crouched at the water's edge, getting a quick drink before disappearing back into the trees. Creatures similar to antelope came and went, monkeys, and a plethora of other animals you couldn't even begin to explain. You were getting excited to hit the ground with the guys just so you could get up close and personal with some of the wildlife. Most of the animals were things you'd only ever heard about and you wanted to experience them yourself. The sooner you got this done the sooner you could do that.

You paused when you saw what looked like huts, sharply changing direction so you could get a better look at them. They were raised off the ground by wooden posts, probably to deter predators. The buildings were made of similar wood as the posts with thick straw like material making up the roofs. When you got closer, you noticed the residents. They were all dressed in animal furs and leathers with naturally tanned skin and piercing golden eyes. Every one of them had the strange eye color that seemed to draw you in and they were all looking at you.

Wings didn't move silently, and they definitely took notice of you. It felt almost like a tense standoff as you kept a slight distance, circling the settlement and they continued to watch you. At first you thought it was them being wary but the longer you were there, the more it felt like they were sizing you up. You weren't happy to find out it was definitely the latter.

You had a split second to avoid an arrow that flew in your direction, snapping your wings shut and twisting your body midair. You had lost some height with the maneuver and fought to regain it as the area exploded with life. You'd done nothing to suggest you were aggressive but they sure were. They shouted at you in a language you couldn't understand as more arrows sailed towards you, reminding you that returning fire was most definitely an option. They started it after all.

You whipped away, gaining some distance from them long enough to pull your bow off your back and string an arrow. It'd been a long time since you last tried to fire anything so you were hoping you'd have decent aim. You focused on one of the people getting ready to shoot at you, pulled the string back, and let it go. They let out a pained yelp as the arrow embedded itself in their side. You were aiming for a headshot.

A curse left your lips as you realized you should have been practicing your aim on the ship. It wasn't like you didn't have time to do just that. A spear sailed past your head and you decided this was getting a little dicey. Still, you continued to flit about, shooting the occasional arrow to subdue them. You manage to kill a couple but the longer you stayed, the more people seemed to appear from the huts and surrounding jungle. You went to reach for another arrow and froze when your fingers couldn't find any. You'd fired them all off which meant it was time to go. Kid and the others could be filled in on what you found and they'd help you out if the natives continued to be a problem.

But as you twisted around to leave, you came face to face with a stern looking man and were momentarily confused. You were still in the air, right above the tree tops. He must have climbed a neighboring tree and jumped to reach you while you were distracted by the villagers. Clever.

While you were impressed, you weren't amused. He managed to snag your quiver and yank you down with him as he fell. You scrambled out of it as fast as you could to avoid hitting the ground. You could get the quiver back later. He still pulled you down far enough that you were very worried about being drawn down by the mass of bodies that was now reaching for you. This had gotten real scary real fast.

You smacked hands away with the bow, using it like a bat. More than one person jerked back and cried out from the impact. You had almost gained enough height back to fly away when something caught your eye from the side. As soon as you were able to make sense of it, it was on you.

They'd tossed a net over your head and it was heavy enough on your wings that you dropped like a stone and fell to the ground. It was a waste of time to try untangling yourself but you still tried. That was until weapons of every kind were pointed at you. You stopped and waited while they murmured amongst themselves, motioning to you from time to time. They weren't sure what to do with you.

The man that had taken your quiver had it slung along his own shoulder and pushed his way through the crowd, yelling something at them. It worked in getting them to quiet down enough for him to look at you. His stare was harsh and his golden eyes only made it seem all the more fierce. He took a spear from someone else and swung it around so the blunt, wood end of it pointed at you.

You didn't understand why until he jerked it towards you and all you felt was blazing pain in your head and saw black.
