Negotiations

Killer dropped you on the deck of Captain Kid's ship and you managed to land on your feet. It wasn't graceful by any means, wings flapping to help balance yourself and your face beet red. You shot the blonde a glare as your wings settled between your shoulder blades and then turned to the man in front of you.

Kid sat on a crate, smiling widely at you with his elbows resting on his thighs, human and metal hands clasped together.

"You cost me a pretty penny woman. Those sails weren't cheap to replace." He raised his metal hand to catch the bag the blue haired pirate tossed to him.

"You were making a beeline to fuck up my captain's ship. What else was I supposed to do?" You looked about the deck. Pirates were all around, some up higher in the crows nest and netting with guns ready. They were planning on you trying to fly away.

"Die." Kid snickered as he went through the bag, pulling everything out and tossing it to the ground. "Let's see what we have here....jacket, book, food, and a knife sheathe. I'd bet this goes with it." He cheerily pulled your knife out of his belt and slid it into the sheathe. "Not a lot here."

He tossed the knife to your feet, almost taunting you to pick it up. Kid then picked up the book, noting the cover. You didn't like him going through your stuff. It was nothing overly sentimental to you but it was still yours.

"I keep the bare essentials handy, sue me." You were grateful for putting the map in your pocket. He would've taken a lot of interest in that if he found it.

"Are you planning on hopping around some islands by yourself? I don't see how this book would be important."

"My captain's a fun loving idiot who doesn't know how to run a ship, the crew is the same so I do a lot of the work. It doesn't hurt to be prepared for some of the nearby places." All of that was true, he couldn't call you out on that.

"A responsible one aren't we?" He leaned forward, placing the book beside him and clasping his hands together once again, still wearing that unnerving smile. "Were there any issues bringing her here Killer?" Kid stared you down as he spoke, watching as you fidgeted under the intensity of his gaze.

"She's pretty slick. If Heat wasn't there she may have gotten away." He scratched at his goatee poking out from the bottom of his mask.

"No, I would've kicked your ass." You crossed your arms and huffed.

"Shut up." Kid snapped at you, his smile turning into a snarl. "You think she could manage to not get killed in a fight?" He asked Killer. Your input was no longer necessary apparently.

"Yeah, she could hold her own."

"Alright. Join my crew woman. Those wings of yours can come in handy."

"What, no! I'm already part of another crew. Thanks, but no thanks." You fully expected to have Kid torturing you, not have him scouting you as a new crew member.

"Remember me saying you cost me some money? New sails aren't cheap, you owe me."

"I'm not interested in joining your crew and I have no money, you're shit out of luck." You shrugged.

"Here's how this is going to go." Kid stood up and sauntered over to you until you had to crane your neck to look up at him. "You can join and consider that paying off your debt to me or we can go pay your current captain a visit and see what he can pay me. Either in berries or blood, the choice is yours."

The crew was broke, that was partially the reason you went to get the treasure map. And by blood, you were sure Kid meant your captain wouldn't get out alive.

"If I join, you don't touch him." You said confidently.

"Of course." He purred.

You ran a hand through your hair, frustrated. "Fine. Let me talk to him first and gather some things."

"Killer will join you, in case you change your mind and try some cheap trick."

"I won't." You growled, stepping away to pick up your bag and shoving your stuff back in it.

"You have an hour. Get back and then we're heading out. I'm not interested in sticking around here." Kid walked away and the crew dispersed, leaving you and Killer on deck together.

----

"Just stay here, I'll only be a few minutes." You left your bedroom door half open so he wouldn't feel the need to barge in as you gathered your stuff.

It was mostly clothes and shoes, you kept your things to a minimum simply because they were easier to manage that way. You filled a new bag that was lying around below deck with your stuff and slung it over your shoulder to accompany your other one. It was time to talk to the captain. He was passed out in the dining room with some of the rest of the men. Of course they drank themselves into a stupor, it's what they did best.

"Finished already? You don't have much." Killer commented, offering to take your bag.

"Don't need much. I'll be in the dining room for a moment and then we can go." You kept your bag.

"To talk with your ex-captain? Not alone you won't."

"I'm not planning anything, I just want some privacy."

"Nope. I'm second in command and what I say goes when Kid isn't around, I'm going with you." He walked past you, going towards where he assumed the kitchen and dining area were.

This motherfucker.

You followed behind him, entering a dining room full of men passed out and draped over the tables. There was the heavy smell of alcohol lingering in the air and empty bottles littering the floor. You pushed Killer to the side to get past him and reach the man you were looking for. He was sitting at one of the benches, top half laying on the table and snoring away loudly.

"Hey." You lightly kicked his leg, startling him awake. "I'm leaving."

"Okay." He grumbled. "Come back by morning."

"No, I'm leaving for good. I'm not coming back."

"What?" His head shot up and he stared at you in disbelief. "Why, there's no reason for that!"

"I need a change is all, so I'm done here." You lied easily. He was dense but he wasn't a bad guy, you didn't want him to feel guilty for what happened.

"I won't be able to change your mind, will I?" He looked over at Killer, not quite recognizing the man.

"Nope. But before I go, this is for you." You pulled out the book, slipping the map out from your pocket and hiding it among the pages, out of Killer's sight. "You guys aren't the best at preparing when you land somewhere, this should help. Be sure to flip through it a bit, get an idea of what's in it."

Right as you went to hand it over, Killer snatched it from your hand. So much for him not seeing anything. "I think I'll be taking that actually."

You glared at him but didn't object. It was a sad attempt at hiding that from him anyway, not like you had a chance to do anything better.

"Nevermind then." You sighed. "Take care of yourself and everyone else. I won't be there to cover for you anymore."

"I guess it is about time we started looking after ourselves." He let out a sad chuckle and nodded, finally noticing the dynamic between you and the annoying masked man beside you. "You do the same and don't forget to take a break once in a while. You work too hard."

You smiled and started backing out of the room. "Aye aye captain." There was a half empty bottle of sake sitting on a table you snatched up on your way out. You'd need it.

----

Killer and Kid were hidden away indoors somewhere while you stood on the deck, stretching your wings and pulling out any loose feathers you came across. Your wings got messy if you didn't do this on a regular basis and if you went without for too long it bothered you when you flew. You plucked out a particularly long feather and twirled it between your fingers thoughtfully.

You always liked the color. They were a shiney black, like a raven's feathers, sometimes reflecting light to appear almost blue or purplish at times. The silver splatters were interesting. They looked like someone took a loaded paintbrush and flicked it across your wings, creating a totally unique pattern. When the light hit the silver spots, they almost looked metallic. It was a sight to see for sure.

Someone bumped against one of your outspread wings and you instinctively retracted it a bit to see Killer had come back to bother you.

"That's quite the wingspan." He plucked the feather from your hand and examined it.

"Yep."

"How long?"

"Dunno, never measured." You got back to running your fingers through the layers, pulling out the occasional loose feather and adding them to the growing pile on the railing.

"Did you want to?" He asked, tilting his head to look along your back.

"Are you suggesting it just to satisfy your own curiosity?" You lowered your head and puffed at the pile, sending them all falling into the dark waters below.

"Maybe or maybe some of the other guys are curious."

"Other guys?" You tucked your wings in and turned around a bit. There were a few other men looking in your direction. They were definitely eyeing your wings, which was not the problem you thought you'd have on a ship full of strange men.

"Yeah, they also want to know your name. Can't just call you woman all the time."

"I'm a little insulted you guys haven't heard of me. I have a bit of a bounty on my head."

"Quit the bragging and tell me before I have everyone calling you woman."

You smirked. "It's (Y/n), the Archangel."
