Base Island
"I don't think we'll ever go hungry with him around." Heat said as Cypher pulled yet another fish out of the water by his talons.
"He's definitely handy." You agreed.
The wyvern dropped the huge fish on deck, right at Killer's feet. "Thanks big guy."
Somehow, the two bonded over their love for you. Cypher was able to put two and two together and realized you were lovers. You were pretty sure it was the morning after you came out of his room together, just finished with a loud lovemaking session. Kid didn't mind it as much during the day since he wasn't in his room then usually.
Either way, Killer had him earning his keep by fishing and it was working great. The men loved the fresh food and Cypher seemed to like the exercise. It was a real win-win.
Your partner picked up the fish and tossed it over his shoulder. It was easily just as big as him but he carried it to the kitchen like it was nothing. He'd take a bit of time cleaning it so you busied yourself helping Heat and Wire with the roost they were making for Cypher in the mean time.
The only problem you'd had with the wyvern so far was his sleeping habits. Instead of using the deck like you thought he would, he preferred hanging upside down, like a bat. The first time he did it, wrapping his long tail around one of the posts and using his talons to hold him place, Kid just about lost it. You didn't blame him, there were quite the gouges left in the wood afterwards.
Hence the roost. Kid had begrudgingly made a metal stand with a thick arm Cypher could use to hang off of without pissing anyone off or ruining the ship. It was just about done and when you got ready to offer a hand, you realized there wasn't much you could do. A few crew members were holding the contraption up while Heat and Wire were busy reinforcing the base.
The wyvern dropped to the deck beside you and settled down to watch the men work curiously. You joined him, sitting and leaning back into his scaled side. The two of you watched for a bit, your friend nosing at you occasionally so you could scratch under his chin. Eventually Killer came back around and plopped down by you, smelling slightly of fish.
"We'll be reaching the island in a couple hours." He started.
"When will the other captains get there?" You scooted closer to him until your legs touched and a wing was brushing up against his back.
"They're both about a full day away from us."
"That'll give me some time to explore." You smiled, excited to see Kid's base for the first time.
"There's not a whole lot there. Trees, couple mountains, and a castle."
"Sounds pretty nifty to me~" You practically sang. "And I bet we'll be able to get some alone time in."
"Oh I plan on that."
----
The island practically called to you when it came into view. Killer said there wasn't much to it but it was beautiful. You were greeted with perfect spring weather and the enticing sight of a large castle surrounded by thick trees. A mountain loomed over behind it, framing it nicely.
"Want to go check it out?" Killer asked with a hint of amusement.
"Can we?" You were bouncing up and down with the need to spread your wings and fly around the place.
"Sure, let me give Kid a heads up." He wandered off to find the captain.
While he was busy with that, you went to your room to grab something. A saddle. Wire had brought up that Cypher was technically big enough for someone to ride and you and Killer wasted no time using the spare leather around the ship to make something the wyvern could wear. It was a little difficult making it durable enough to withstand any damage it may get from the spines lining his back but you made it work.
Kid lined the bottom with metal to keep it from getting pierced and with Cyphers spines along his back being considerably smaller than the ones along his head and neck, there wasn't the risk of someone getting impaled. The damn thing weighed a ton though. It wasn't easy to carry but you managed.
Your scaled friend still wasn't quite sure how he felt about being saddled up once in a while but he tolerated it at least. When you came by with it, he helped nudge it onto his back with his nose. Then you worked the straps around his body, one going around his chest and the other around his belly.
Killer got back right as you were finishing up tightening up everything. "We're good to go."
He gripped the side of the saddle and lifted himself up, throwing a leg over. Cypher gave his body a good shake as he adjusted to the extra weight but didn't complain.
"You look pretty cool up there." You giggled and stepped on the side of the ship, wings half open.
"You think?" He chuckled quietly. "Let's go before Kid decides he'd rather have our company."
With that, you took off and Cypher wasn't far behind. While you did your usual lazy tricks through the air, he stuck to flying pretty straight, occasionally gliding and letting the wind do all the work. While Killer had no problem getting in the saddle, he wasn't as big of a fan of flying like you were. Cypher was nice enough to behave himself while your partner was with him and refrained from doing anything too crazy.
You made a round over the island to check the perimeter out of habit and found nothing out of the ordinary. No other pirate ships or Marines in sight and nothing that felt out of place to you. Killer and Cypher made a bee line for the castle at the same time. When you were satisfied with the area, you dropped to the ground to meet them.
"Go have fun big guy." You shooed away the wyvern and he flew off happily. He could deal with a ship but he preferred being around solid ground from the looks of it.
"I'll never get used to flying." Killer took off his mask and pulled you in for a kiss.
You loved it when you could have alone time with him like this. It sucked that he felt the need to hide away so much.
"You just gotta trust Cypher a bit." You said between kisses.
"I think I'll stick to the ground and leave the flying to you."
"Alright then, how about you show me around the island for a bit? I'll even stay on the ground with you."
"I'd love to."
----
He started with the castle, knowing when the rest of the crew arrived they'd all flock there. Going through it first meant he'd be able to keep his mask off longer. You held it in your arms, pressed firmly to your chest as he walked you around.
One of the best things you loved about Killer was all the small tidbits of facts he knew. Despite his tough outward appearance, he liked to keep up to date on current events and learn about old fun facts. It made you happy with how he shared what he knew about the structure. A slight smile played at his lips the entire time and you found yourself glancing over at him often just to see it.
The place was huge and you enjoyed exploring every part of it. The crew didn't stop at the island often but the place still managed to stay pretty clean. There was some dust that had gathered in corners here and there but besides that, the place was practically pristine. Furniture looked well loved but was kept neat, beds were made, dishes were nicely organized in their set spots in cabinets. You'd swear pirates didn't run the island. It probably had to do with Killer, he liked keeping things in order.
Of course Killer saved the best parts of the castle for last. He worked his way up the floors until he led you to the top of one of the spires. From there you could make out the ship docked at the edge of the island and the crew making their way to you. The view of the ocean with the sun setting beyond the horizon was perfect.
"Want to see something else?" He asked from behind you.
You leaned back a little to look over your shoulder, tearing your gaze from the view out the window. "Don't ruin this by showing me your dick."
He shook his head and grinned widely. "No, it's not that. Come on."
You followed him down the long flight of stairs until he came to a sudden stop at the base and started feeling along the stone walls.
"What're we doing here?" You puzzled over his strange behavior.
"This."
One of the stones gave way under his hand and a section of wall jutted forward enough for him to get a hold of it. With a little effort, he was able to pull it back to reveal a dark passage.
"Ohhhhh it's got a secret passageway!" You may not care for small enclosed spaces but this was too much to resist. "I've never seen one before!"
"Wanna go down it? It'll spit us out at the foot of the mountain behind here, we can avoid the guys for a bit."
It was dark, damp, and probably full of all kinds of bugs and little critters. But you'd get more alone time with your lover.
"Sounds like fun to me." You stepped past him, clutching his mask close as you ducked under a cobweb. Your wings twitched a bit but you weren't bothered too badly by it all, not with Killer by your side.
He snagged a lamp before joining you in the tunnel and lit it as the secret door closed behind you.
"This winds through the castle a bit. It goes between the walls of rooms so don't be surprised if you hear some of the men."
You felt around for his free hand and held it in yours as you walked further through the tunnel. At times the ceiling dipped down low enough Killer had to duck a bit to avoid hitting his head. It made you giggle every time, sending your voice bouncing off the walls and down the path.
Sure enough, eventually you hear the loud chatter and laughter of men at times as you went down. At one point you were even able to single out Kid's rough voice as he yelled something incoherent at some poor crew mate. The meeting had him grouchier than ever. He wasn't much of a people person believe it or not.
The walk was surprisingly short though. It led to what looked like a dead end but Killer did the same trick to open an unseen door just like he did to enter the passage. It wasn't as bad as you thought it'd be. You were proud to admit you only freaked out once when a spider dropped on your head. Of course your partner just brushed it out of your hair like it was nothing.
When you stepped outside you were greeted with cool, crisp night air. It had gotten dark in that short time but the forest still looked as enticing as it did in the day light. It was just slightly spookier.
Killer picked cobwebs out from your wings, illuminating them with the lamp so he wouldn't miss anything.
"So there's a part of the island that only Kid and I know about. I think you'll like it."
When he finished, you brushed some dirt out of his hair. It was holding on desperately to his bangs and driving you nuts.
"What's at said part of the island?" You asked, flicking the last bits out of his soft locks.
Killer smiled, blue eyes lighting up. "You'll have to wait and see."
