Chapter 8
Ocean's POV
"Frost, what do we do?" I asked feebly. She only stood still, continuing to stare at Derpolollus' angry form.
What if I die? I thought. Then, I won't be able to see Lavender, my friends, or my family again.
I felt a tear landed on one of my tentacles. But I knew that nothing would change if I just swim there and wail, so I followed Frost's gaze.
Her eyes were strangly clouded and she clenched her fists... in anger?
"Frost, what's wrong?" I asked.
She slowly turned to look at me. For a moment, she seemed confused but she blinked it off.
"Nothing is wrong," she replied.
"But, what do we do?" I whispered. "I can't fight on land and Derpolollus could fly away."
"I have a plan," Frost said calmly. "Go to safety. Now."
I was briefly confused but I nodded and swam deeper and holding my breath as long as I could.
"You will be home soon," she muttered.
Shutting my eyes, I hoped Frost's plan would work.
Frost's POV
Ready? the voice asked in my head.
Yes, I replied, grabbing out my sword. Are you almost positive that this will work?
One thousand percent positive! the voice claimed. Just, err... go with the flow.
I sighed. It's either me and Ocean going to die or Derpolollus. It was obvious which one both wanted and hoped.
It might hurt a tiny bit, the voice spoke. I am going to begin. Are you really ready? Or just saying?
Of course I'm ready! I said indignantly.
Suddenly, my head began to hurt.
I thought you will be counting down! I almost shouted out loud.
The voice gave a sigh. Come on, a second late and goodbye to everyone! it protested.
This is exactly why I wanted to have a break from you, I grumbled.
Nevermind, the voice said. I'll start now.
I braced myself for the pain to come. To my surprise, it was more soothing than I expected.
It kinda happened before, remember? the voice reminded me.
Oh yeah, that incident, I said.
My head began to feel lighter, and I felt more comforted.
Done! the voice declared. It's time for me to kick some butts!
I mentally facepalmed.
Ocean's POV
Frost suddenly took a step towards Derpolollus, who was glaring at her. "Ready to die?" he sneered.
"No," the voice that spoke was not the one that I was familiar with.
I saw Derpolollus flinch slightly. What happened?
"You will be the one who will die today," Frost said fiercely.
She jumped at him with her sword. Derpolollus flew higher to avoid her but he was too slow.
"You are too slow, you big, fat, thingy!" she taunted.
The mutant squid threw a heavy explosive squid at her in fury. It exploded but Frost was unharmed.
"Is that the best you can do?" she sighed.
Derpolollus become more angry and he charged at her. She jumped so high that Derpolollus missed, and she took the chance to stab him.
He growled in pain. "Your attacks are weak!" he snarled, in attempt to cover his terror.
"Really?" Frost said. "Thanks for the compliment then."
She stabbed Derpolollus once more, and he flew around crazily, trying to shake her off. But she was unmoved.
Frost held a potion and drank it. Then, she quickly jumped off Derpolollus and stick out her sword as if to grip onto him.
He yelled in pain as the sword sliced his big body easily. "There's no way!" he gasped as his body began to explode. "It's impossible!"
It ended with a huge explosion and tons of experience fell down, decorating the dull grass.
"You did it," I gasped as I swam up to meet Frost.
"It was nothing," she shrugged casually.
"By the way, you seemed different during the fight," I said. "What's with that?"
"Oh, nothing," Frost denied.
"Tell me, Frost," I insisted.
She sighed and nodded. "Fine, I'm not Frost, at least for now."
"What?" I shouted in shock. "Then who are you?"
"I don't have a name, but Frost calls me Fern, because well, I am tough," she replied.
"I still don't get it," I said.
"I will explain later," Fern, or whatever she's called, said. "For now, sleep. You will return home tomorrow."
I nodded. So, I didn't die after all.
