Chapter 5

Ocean's POV

When we arrived, Snapper suddenly pushed me into a pool. "Why did you do that?" I glared at him. Snapper gave me a grin, or is it a smirk?

"What's going on?" I whispered to Frost. "A test for you, I think," she replied. The other recruits were sneering at me. "Good luck, squid," one of them openly sneered.

I felt confused. A test, maybe? I thought. As I tried to gather my thoughts, a booming announcement was made. "Let the Obstacle of Abyss begin!"

"Obstacle of Abyss?" I half yelled. It didn't sound like a relaxing swim at the gardens. The iron door in front of me opened up. Being curious, but wary, I swam in.

Just as I swam in, the door immediately closed behind me. I nearly jumped out of my skin. A sign, wet from the water, read, "Challenge 1: Dodging Fire spikes."

I shuddered at the thought of me getting hurt with a fiery sting. "But I am underwater, how can I get burnt?" I wondered out loud.

"That's where you are wrong," a person's voice sounded from the speakers. "The spikes would cut you first, then insert a 'little' lava into your body, preventing it from being put out by water."

I shivered at the thought of sharp and burning hot spikes cuting my skin. I would rather stay where I am, but the wall behind me began to move.

I will just 'wing' it, I thought, making a snap decision. I swam across the spikes gracefully. It was going well, so far.

I flinched when I hit a spike, but luckily, I swam away in time for the spike to release its 'vemon'.

I managed to arrive at the next iron door, safely. "Challenge 2: 'Smashy' Rocks!" the commentor shouted excitedly. "I hope you will have a smashing time, Ocean the squid!"

Huh, for once they didn't call me the squid, I thought quickly. I stared at the obstacle. Blunt rocks moved by pistons, I think, was moving and smashing the opposite wall.

I gulped. Getting smashed is just as worse as being lit on fire. Yes, again the wall behind me, even the iron door is moving towards me.

I closed my eyes wishing for good luck, then I raced for the door. A rock smashed in front of me threateningly, clumps of rock hit my face.

I shook it off and dodged the rocks quickly. A particularly sharp piece of rock hit me, and I winced at the pain and the sight of blood.

"Ocean! You can do it!" I heard Frost encouraging me, but it was so soft that I couldn't make much sense of it. I gathered up my remaining strength, if I had any left, and sped past the remaining obstacles with grace.

I reached the door, trying to catch my breath. "So, the competitor has cleared the second challenge, will she survive the next?" the same person said into the microphone. "Challenge 3: Watery Lava Maze of Doom!"

I turned my gaze to the next obstacle and saw a maze that had water and lava in it. The lava acted as a wall (that could kill). "How could the lava not turn to obsidian?" I asked no one specially.

"Special commands in command blocks, you noob," I heard Snapper reply. I bristled angrily. I wished I could shove all his insults down his throat.

I pushed that out of my mind. I guess I just need to focus, I decided. I swam carefully through the maze. I was trying to do it slowly and steadily but the wall (yes again) was moving towards me.

I put on a brust of speed, nearly touching the lava. I gave a yelp of surprise when the lava hit me. I was not burnt, but the damage taken from me will not recover fast.

When I finally completed the maze, I saw a sign that read, "Here is the exit." I swam towards it but banged my head instead. That's when I realised that there are words written in small letters.

"Haha, you just got trolled!" It read. I felt stream pouring out of my skin and my face red with anger and frustration. "I didn't face those life-threatening challenges for a troll!" I yelled. "Get me out of this right now!"

The spectators/ recruits were laughing so hard at me. Then, another door that is hidden opened behind me and I swam through it.

"Thank you for playing the Obstacle of Abyss v1! Stay tuned for v2 for more exciting/deadly challenges!" the commentor said, bubbling with laughter.

Freedom! I thought in relief. Another moment in that thing, I will explode. Frost came to me and said, "Congrats!"

Suddenly, the ground shook so violently that some of the recruits fell. A storm seemed to be coming as the sky became darker.

Frost's POV

I followed Ocean's gaze. I saw dark clouds in the sky. I gulped. Oh no, I thought worriedly. Is it coming? Another shake confirmed my worries.

Ocean saw my horrified expression. "What is happening?" she asked nervously. She knows that there is something bad going on.

I tried to stay calm but my shaky voice revealed how nervous I felt. "It is the..." my voice trailed off, unsure whether to tell Ocean.

"It is the Derpolollus Squid Overlord."

Author's note:

I kind of made it suspenseful at the end. If you are wondering why I put the book on hold and didn't publish a chapter in like, two or so weeks, I got writer's block. I finished the chapter already, but I had to rewrite it because it makes no sense. Other then that, do you enjoy this chapter? :)
