Jay sat down on his bed, and leaned against the wall. This was not how this mission was supposed to go.
They were supposed to have landed, set up a few stations for the camera drones, and for the underwater cameras, then collected some samples of the plants and soils, and maybe some wildlife, and gone back to Earth. Simple. In and out.
But no. They crashed, and now they were probably presumed dead, and Jay could do absolutely nothing about it.
Liza was fixing the radio, and Jay had pretty much no idea how to help with that. He tried to ask if she needed help, but Liza just waved him off. "I can do this myself," she'd said.
Perhaps they were sending another mission to verify if they were dead or not, but they could never be sure. The radio was really their only hope at this point, with the ship destroyed.
And so they all waited.
"Jay?" asked Cinnamon. She was standing in the doorway, looking uncertain. "Are you alright? You seem to be sad."
Jay smiled. "I'm all right," he assured her. "Just a little put out that I can't do anything to help."
Cinnamon nodded. "I feel as though we are all experiencing similar feelings of unrest," she agreed. "Liza is feeling very stressed, since she has been asked to repair the radio."
Jay sighed. "I asked if she wanted help. She said she could do it on her own."
Cinnamon rolled her eyes. "Sometimes, when a girl says that she can do something on her own, she really means that she has to do it on her own, since you thought she needed help. Friend Liza will not accept any help with her project. Her pride does not let her."
Jay shook his head. "That makes no sense, but I'll take your word for it," he said. Cinnamon smiled. "That is good enough."

Liza stared at the radio unit. "I think if I put this wire here," she muttred, "it should work."
She twisted the wires together, and then turned the knobs to the right frequency.
Static. Nothing but static and white noise and-
"-space federation, who is this?"
Liza nearly screamed. She'd done it! "This is Liza from the Carolina, I mean, ship 31124, and we're stranded on Trivia. We crashed in the asteroid field. Please send help."
"The Trivia mission?" The radio operator asked. "We had you all filed as dead. Good thing we didn't inform the families yet. Give me your coordinates, and we'll send a ship to come pick you up."
"We're at 64.0733° N, 141.9361° W," said Liza, after glancing at some old files that she had gathered. "Please get here as soon as possible, and watch out for the asteroide field."
"Will d-" the voice started breaking up. "-end a ship to-coordinates shortly. --space federation, over and out."
The communication cut out. Liza stared at the radio unit for a few seconds before jumping up and screaming. She ran out of her room, and into the main hall, where Wayne, Rachel, and Quince were seated. They looked up in alarm as Liza came in.
"I did it!" She yelled. "We're going home!"
