Fallen

Such an interesting word, isn't it?

fall·en

ˈfôlən/

1.

past participle of fall.

And yet, it means something totally different to some people.

To some, it means you've given up.
You've fallen into the metaphorical pit of depression.

To others, it means you just don't care.
You've been hurt so often that you feel like you'd be better off in a dark hole anyways, so others don't have to worry about you.

And hey, if you really think about it, doesn't disappointment go with fallen?

dis·ap·point·ment

ˌdisəˈpointmənt/

noun

the feeling of sadness or displeasure caused by the nonfulfillment of one's hopes or expectations.

"to her disappointment, there was no chance to talk privately with Luke"

synonyms:sadness, regret, dismay, sorrow

a person, event, or thing that causes disappointment.

plural noun: disappointments

"the job proved a disappointment"

synonyms:letdown, nonevent, anticlimax, washout;

informal; bummer

"the trip was a bit of a disappointment"

After all, you normally have to disappoint an awful lot of people to give up.

Sometimes you disappoint friends.
Sometimes family.
Sometimes people you really care about.

But hey, why should you care?

If you're already past the point of breaking... It shouldn't matter, right?

And, once you think about it, both of these things also go with depression.

de·pres·sion

dəˈpreSH(ə)n/

noun

1.

feelings of severe despondency and dejection.

"self-doubt creeps in and that swiftly turns to depression"

Depression has taken so many of this generation.
They feel unwanted, unloved, useless, broken.
Then, in turn, some harm themselves.
Others opt out entirely, choosing to leave behind broken hearts with their passing.

Think about it.

Fallen
Disappointment
Depression

That just about sums up so many people...

I wonder, are you one of them too?
