Ocean Genesis
Avatar: The way of water
The nights events would not be allowed to last.
That morning when they returned home something felt different to Li' Aeyana. She had no desire to go for a swim and she felt a pit in her stomach. They spent the remainder of the day at home until Tonowari held a weeping Ronal in his arms as they entered their pod. It was not often, if ever Ronal cried, especially in front of her children.
And her cry was what broke Li' Aeyana. It was gut wrenching as she wailed. It broke her heart to see her mother this way. When it was revealed to them the nature of Ronals reaction, they understood. It scared Li' Aeyana not only for her but for Lo'ak. She knew the Sully boy spent remainder of his time at sea, but now a danger had washed upon their shores.
Tonowari could not lie to Li' Aeyna. And when the news had revealed itself , Li' Aeyana felt she could drown. A wave of fear washed over at the threat of losing him- losing them all.
She rushed to the Sullys pod hoping to find Lo'ak- to warn him before leaving again. She entered the pod to find only Tuk playing with Neteyam.
As soon as his eyes landed on her , he could tell it was not good news. Her eyes glassed with tears. "What is wrong?" He stood as she grabbed hold of his arm
"Lo'ak, where is he?" Li' Aeyanas voice cracked as she looked to Tuk "Do you know where he is. I have news, very bad news."
"Li' Aeyana, what happened?" Tuk nervously asked
"My mother's-" the vile thought of the crime committed replaying itself in her mind "It's Roa. My mother's spirit sister. They found her this morning-" Li' Aeyana steadied her voice as she could feel herself spiral into a panic "They found Roa and her calf dead. They killed them- sky people."
Just as Li' Aeyana spoke Lo'ak had entered with Kiri. Their playful banter paused at the revelation. The four Sullys shared a look of sorrow, fear and anger.
"What?" Kiri asked "Wh- How did they even find us?" She stepped closer to protectively hold Tuk in her arms
"I do not know. My father said they burned a village nearby. He believes they attacked a tulkun as a warning to your father."
"Fuck..." Lo'ak replied as he and Neteyam shared the same look. This would only end one way, the way it's always ended. In a fight. "Neteyam, what do we do?"
Neteyam had no answer, it was as if he was stunted. They could not take their ilus and confront Quaritch. They had no idea what they would be walking into. "I-"
"My father is calling for us to fight, they all are. We have to go, we have to go now."
The children pushed through the crowd surrounding Tonowari and Ronal. Their cries for war supported by cheers amongst their clan. Li' Aeyana turned to see the worry in Jake's eyes. They would lose, they would lose badly.
"My spirit sister and her baby have been murdered!" Ronal exclaimed as she looked to Jake
"This war has come to us!" Tonowari called as the air felt tense around them "We have known about his hunting of our tulkun brothers and sisters far, far above horizon! But now, now it is here!" He yelled as only anger and vengeance could be felt by her clans people.
Li' Aeyana held Neteyams hand tightly as she looked for Aonung and Tsireya. The pair having contrasting emotions. Aonung was ready for a battle but her sister was heartbroken and scared. Tsireya did not know bloodshed , none of them did. They had heard about the sky people's attacks on Toruk Makto and his clan, but Li' Aeyana could never have imagined that their brutalit. To take a life, to kill a mother and child.
Though they were sky people, they had no mercy, no respect for another life. No humanity.
Jake stepped forward as he looked to Tonowari and Ronal "You gotta understand that they don't care. The sky people do not care for our way of life!" He warned
An uproar of disagreement could be heard
"Listen to him! Listen to him!" Neteyam quickly defended
"The sky people will not stop." Jake replied "This is only the beginning. You need to tell the Tulkun to leave!" Jake cried out. Stepping closer as Jake took a strange red object, unfamiliar to Li' Aeyana as he raised it up. "You have to warn them. The tulkun must leave."
"Leave?" Ronal spoke with bitter anger "You live among us and still you learn nothing!" She yelled
The clan erupts into battle cries. Aonung and others scream their traditional call to battle. The crowd continues to yell at Jake as he steps back and stares pleading at Tonowari. Tonowari shsred a glance to Li' Aeyana as she nodddd her head to Jake. She needed him to listen to reason.
Jake shook his head as his words turned to no avail in aiding his warning. Stepping to the high mount where Tonowari stood as he looked over the Metkayina clan , with the red tracker in hand "Look" Jake looked to them all. "This is about saving their lives. Isn’t that the most important thing? Saving lives?"
Li' Aeyana's head and heart was pounding as all she could think of was Jinoar and the twins. Were they safe, did they leave? Was she ready to fight her first battle?
"Tell the Tulkun!" Tonowari spoke up. Sharing one last glance at his fear struck daughter as he looked to his people. Taking the red pin from Jake and lifts it above his head. "Tell them that if they are struck with one of these, that they are marked for death."
Li' Aeyana pulled Neteyam aside , away from the discourse as she placed a chaste kiss on his lips "I have to find Jinoar and the twins. Meet me at the pods."
Neteyam felt uneasy as he placed a final kiss on her head "Don't do anything stupid."
She managed to breath as she chuckled releasing his hand "Can't be more of skxawng than you."
The sun hardly peaked through the clouds as the waves felt stronger that day. The current was harsh and pulled her deeper into the water. Li' Aeyana could feel it in her bones. A child was taken from the sea. A death that was not needed. The ocean was mouring but more than that it was angry. She could feel it in the strong winds and harsh currents, with waves crashing loud in her ear. A life was taken from Eywa.
Finding Jinoar was a mission of its own. She searched the lowest points of the ocean finding her and her calves hidden under an overbridging cove. Jinoar cried for Roa and so did the twins, but mourning would have to come later as Li' Aeyana warned them from the great threat upon them. Li' Aeyana felt her heart rip into pieces as she had to say goodbye to her spirit sister. They just been reunited and now already she had to say goodbye again.
Time was no luxury, and as the ocean tides grew stronger she knew they were close by. Sky people. Riding on the back of Ryeli back to the village she swore vengeance on any tulkun the sky people would mean to harm. She would not allow them to burn her home, her people to ash. When Li' Aeyana mounted off of her ilu she noticed the Sully pods empty. They were gone, she searched for Tsireya, Roxto and Aonungs ilus but they were gone as well.
Her heart was pounding as she rushed to her parents
"Where are they?! Where is my sister and brother?!" She cried as Ronal placed a grip on her arm
"What do you mean?" She sternly asked as Ronal glanced to Tonowari "Have the children not return?"
"No, they haven't mother. I don't see their ilus anywhere." Li' Aeyanas voice became shaky again "I told them to be back at the pods. I told them and they did not listen!"
Jake rushed to them placing his hand off of his ear piece "The kids are under attack. My kids, Aoung and Tsireya. They're defending a tulkun."
A momentary pause as Ronal and Tonowari shared the same look. Her father gripping his spear tighter "I need a group ready. You two get to safety."
"Father, no."
"This is not to debate Li' Aeyana! This is a command!" Tonowari argued as he turned to Ronal "Take her to safety, both of you!"
"No!" Li' Aeyana exclaimed "It is Tsireya and Aonung. I want to fight. I can take Ton'li father." She pleaded "I know how to fight, just let me help. Please." Tonowari placed his hand on her shoulder
"Li' Aeyana, I need you and your mother safe. Ronal make her understand."
"No, she is right." Ronal agreed with Li' Aeyana. Time and time again Li' Aeyana had proven herself, this time she would not let it fall on deaf ears "She is one of our strongest fighters. Her tsurak is strong and dangerous. She can fight."
"Ronal-" Tonowari shook his head "I will not have her harmed." He looked to Li' Aeyana with cold eyes "She is not ready and you- you should be safe as well."
"They are my children!" Ronal argued back "I ride!"
When Li' Aeyana and Aonung were five, her grandfather, the Omaticaya before Tonowari had taken her off reef. He had asked them what weapon would they desire to have one day. Aounung like his father wanted the largest and sharpest spear but Li' Aeyana chose differently. She had asked her grandfather to carve her a bow from the strongest tree on the reef. When he had died it was what was left for them.
She knew a spear was the weapon of tradition but a bow felt more lethal, more permanent.
Cries for bloodbath could be heard as they rode across the ocean. Li' Aeyana and Neytiri flying from off above as Ton'li speed behind Neytiri and her ikran. The horns of war were blown as she could see the ships of sky people.
Their march stopped as Jake aimed his weapon at the Avatar. Li' Aeyana flew close by to see Tsireya, Lo'ak and Tuk tied to the rails. Taking an arrow as she arched it between her fingers , her aim set on the avatar stood behind Tsireya as Ton'li slowly flow down next to Tonowari and Ronal
"What is happening? We can take the shot."
"We can't." Jake replied as his eyes focussed through the lense of his firearm "We do that and they'll kill our kids for sure." Ronal and Li' Aeyana hissed as she retracted her bow
Aboard the ship, an arrogant Quaritch took the ear piece of out of Lo'aks ear as his eyes met with Jake's across the sea. "Jake, tell your friends to stand down. You want your kids back? You come out alone." He threatened holding a gun to Lo'aks head. "I took you under my wing Jake and you betrayed me." He continued to toy with them "You killed good men, good women. Drop your gun because I will not hesitate to execute your son."
Under his own breath Jake cursed lowering his gun. "Hold here, we can't go in."
Li' Aeyana scanned across but she could not see Rotxo, Neteyam, Aonung or Kiri in sight.
"They are tulkun killers. They must die. Here, today." Tonowari coldly answered. Jake respectfully nodded
"It's me they want. That's what this has been about. The hunting of the tulkun, taking our children." An old battle replaying in his mind, as even back then when he was younger he played a part in Quaritch attacking innocent Na'vis. Just as they burned the forest, now they have killed of the Metkayina.
"My daughter was right." Ronal sneered "You brought this war to us."
And never had Li' Aeyana regret the words she spoke until in that moment.
