Ocean Genesis

Avatar: The way of water

The sand beneath her feet felt so soft, softer than she could imagine. Li' Aeyanas first memory was feeling the course sand underneath her tiny toes. The smell of brisk air and salt. Her first memory was her running towards the ocean. She walked along the sand as she took in the air. The air was warm,  not hot but warm as though she felt protected.

She realized where she was, her cove.

The same cove she had run off to whenever she seemed troubled, which seemed to be a lot as she could remember. It was the only place where she did not feel tied to her responsibilities. No one telling her how to behave, how to act- none of it. She could just be herself.

The first she noticed was how clear the ocean was. No ships, no sky people and no war cries. Just the sound of thunderous waves crash against each other. The slow build as the waves became bigger. And the slow build as it drew back from the sand.

Li' Aeyanas hand traveled to her middle,  the cut. But as her fingers grazed over the skin,  there was nothing. Not even a scratch.

Strange. Li' Aeyana thought to herself as she walked towards the shore. Taking a deep breath as she allowed the water to wash over feet. The impulse taking control as she lied down in the sand. Calmly waiting for the water to wash over her. She could feel it her heart. The sound of the tulkun singing as she eclipse shined over her. Listening to the waves as she could feel it coming.

And finally the ocean wash over.

And as she opened her eyes again, she did not know where she was. There was no cove or clear skies. But rather she opened her eyes to trees reaching miles above her. The stars looking down at her as she looked around to see a forest around her.

Walking through the forest, she felt tied to something powerful. Every creature passing by her as her hand glided over the blooming nature. Her eyes widened when she saw a small spirit in front of her. And slowly the all came down from trees to form a singular line. Leading her somewhere.

Eywa. The great mother.

Li' Aeyana knew nothing of the forest but somehow felt safe. As though nothing could harm her, as though she had nothing to fear.

Following behind the spirits her ears perked at the sound of water, though it was not of an ocean. Her hands opening through plants to see a powerful watefall. Looking up to the sky to see mountains above her as ikrans flew above her head.

Approaching a pond near the waterfall as she could slowly make out the figure. Her breath hitched as she knew who it was. His back turned to her but it was still him. Still Neteyam. Li' Aeyanas eyes scanned his back but there was no sign of bleeding. No flesh opened from a bullet. She felt herself smile as she slowly approached him. Arching his back as he released his arrow.  He examines the fish proudly, his golden eyes full of life. Turning around face her as both were at a stand still.

"Hi." She greeted feeling the stained tears on her cheeks.

Neteyam shared her smile as he let go of his bow and arrow. Before being able to take a breath Li' Aeyana sighed feeling his arms wrap around her. Resting her head in the crook of his neck as her arms wrapped around his neck.

The intimacy felt different. Usually their kisses only felt for so long, but now, Li' Aeyana could not think of a single thing to rush her as she held him against her.

Slowly the two pulled back as Li' Aeyana laughed when Neteyam held her face. His hands gentle as his thumb grazed the side of her dimple.

"I thought..." he whispered "I thought I lost you Li' Aeyana."

"Me too." She softly spoke "I was so scared and tired. All I remember is how weak you got."

"I was scared too." Neteyam froze as his eyes landed to her middle "Your cut! It's gone." He gasped as Li' Aeyana held her breath when his hands landed on her waist. Looking back up to her green eyes  "I don't understand- are we-"

"I don't know..." she mumbled "All I know is you are safe. We are safe." Her hand played with the beads at the end of his braids.

"So what now?" Neteyam asked. And his held her the nature changed around them. The forest became brighter. As the moons shadow formed in front of the sun. An eclipse. They forest remained itself as a path from the water become broader. Neteyam held her hand as they followed the path, still familiar to him as they followed. His eyes widened as he realized where it was taking them. A cove.

Their cove.

"It's beautiful." Li' Aeyana breathed "The forest, your home."

"So if yours." He complimented as the ocean in front of them had never looked better. Spirits surrounded them as they turned to each other.

"At some point, we have to wake up. You know this, right?" Neteyam asked her

Li' Aeyana nodded as all she could think of was their last moment. The pain she felt when Neteyam had bleed out, how weak he had become. His tight graps around her wrist as she too was becoming weaker. The sound of their mothers crying and her body held in Tsireyas arms as Aonung had her blood on his hands. Their families their loved ones. She knew they had to go back, the fantasy around them could only last for so long.

"I wish we could stay here forever." She whispered resting her forehead against hers as she felt her chest pressed against Neteyams

"I know." Neteyam sighed "Let's just stay here, just for a little while longer."

"Only for a little while longer." She agreed

To this she him kiss her. Smiling in the kiss as it reminded her of their first kiss. Their lips brushed against each other eagerly. Still thinking to how scared she was to allow herself to feel what she felt towards him. Giggling as she felt Neteyams hand around her neck as the othe on her side.

Neteyam sighed as Li' Aeyana deepened the kiss. Her kiss the only one he knew. His first kiss, his last kis. Still, she was gentle, as though they had all the time in world.

Slowly retracting his lips with his eyes closed as he felt her breath on his. "Only for a little while."

"Only for a little while." She laughed pulling her head back as she held his hands. Her eyes looked over his shoulder to see the forest behind him. "Now show me your home?" She eagerly asked

"Only if we come back to the cove." He agreed as he lead her back through the forest.

Their two homes becoming one , much like them.

Authors notes:

Ladies, gentlemen and non binaries,  that's the end of Ocean Genesis. Oh my God,  thank you to everyone who has read, voted, and commented on this book. Yall are the absolute best.

So I was gonna kill them off. I really was but I'm so in love with Avatar and look forward to seeing what's ahead for the films that I'm gonna leave Neteyam and Li ' Aeyanas ending open ended. If you feel like it's better that this is their end that is fine, If you feel like eventually that they'll wake that is fine too. I was not sure to end it so I'd rather leave it in the readers hands.

Again thanks to everyone who enjoyed this book
