Ocean Genesis
Avatar: The way of water
"I wish I could have been there. The ocean blessed you with a gift brother." Kiri grinned in awe of Lo'ak survival beyond reef. There was finally a sense of peace and closeness between them all. Aonung had made his peace much to his sisters relief.
It was Lo'aks bravery for taking the blame , that made Li' Aeyana's brother realize the error and misguided judgement he carried towards the Sullys. Now they were friends, and finally their parents could sigh a breath of relief.
"But the tulkun have not arrived yet." Aonung noted "And no tulkun is ever alone."
Lo'ak tried to convince them of what he saw and what he experienced but they were all hesitant. Beyond reef was uncharted territory but even Li' Aeyana who frequently swam beyond reef could not make sense of what the youngest Sully boy saw.
"This one was." Lo'ak replied as he turned to Tsireya, Li' Aeyana noticed her hand on Lo'ak's arm as she remained silent. She was in no position to say anything given how often she and Neteyam would sneak out at night to the cove.
"He had a missing fin, kind of like a stump."
Li' Aeyana and Tsireya shared an alarmed look with one another as they turned to Aonung.
"Lo'ak, that is not possible." Li' Aeyana hesitated as she glanced to Tsireya "That would mean-"
"Payakan." Tsireya warned. The Sully children quickly noticed the change in demeanour between the Metkayina children. Each sharing a look of disbelief but above all else, a sense of looming fear.
"Who is Payakan?" Kiri asked
"A young bull who went rogue." Roxto answered "He is outcast. Alone. They say he has a missing fin."
"Lo'ak, you are lucky to be alive." Li' Aeyana added "He is known as a killer. My father warned us about him, even as children."
"But-"
"My sister is right." Aonung agreed "He killed Na'vi and other tulkun. Not here but far South."
"If you did see him, how is it you are alive?" Li' Aeyana wondered "We were told he was a vicious killer."
"He's not a killer." Lo'ak replied frustrated "He's the one who saved my life. He's my friend." The young Sully boy defended the tulkun
"My baby bro." Neteyam walked over to Lo'ak placing his hands on his shoulders "the mighty warrior who faced the killer tulkun."
Lo'ak did not take lightly to his brothers tease as he abruptly stood up. "I'm telling you he is not a killer. You guys aren't listening."
"No, I- I'm listening Lo'ak." Tuk attempted to reassure her brother but by that point Lo'ak had already dived back into the ocean.
Li' Aeyana shook her head in defeat as she took a seat next to her sister "Leave him. He need to calm down. I think we made him angry."
"But do you think he's right?" Kiri asked as she glanced between the Metkayina children "Could it really be Payakan. "
"Maybe, I don't think he would lie about that?" Li' Aeyana shrugged "But it is hard to believe after everything we were told."
"What if he isn't a killer?" Tuk innocentlyly asked "What if he was judged too quickly?"
"Tuk-" Kiri scolded
"It's hard to say Tuk. No one who has seen Payakan has ever lived to tell what happened."
"Except Lo'ak." Tuk affirmed
Li' Aeyana had finished her lessons as she knocked on the wall of the Marui pod of the Sullys. Neteyam had come to rest after taking a dive with Aonung and Kiri. She walked in to find him with his ionar in his hands. It's lenses were blue with a dark purple feather on its side.
She was not blind. It was clear that he missed home, even if he did not like to talk about it.
"It is beautiful." She complimented it taking a seat across from him. Neteyam remained quiet as he forced a sweet smile on his face, but it was not genuine. She could tell as his eyes looked dark and sullen "You miss home, why don't you ever talk about it?"
"I can't." Neteyan quickly replied, he furrowed his brow as he placed the ionar down "I dont-" he breathed out "I don't want it to look like I'm complaining."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because-" Neteyan stopped himself in his words. Li' Aeyana was right to suspect of them when they first met. Till now she did not know the complete truth. She knew they seeked refuge but she did not know from who or what. Neteyam reasoned it was better this way. He savored every moment with her because he would wake up at night with the looming fear and panic that they would have to leave again. He would rather have her hate him than have her be used to end the hunt on his family.
"It is complicated." He mumbled as he he played with the ionar again as he faced her "It is not easy to speak about."
"You never talk about home or why you left." Li' Aeyana observed "My father and mother would never tell us, but I think I know. Its the sky people, is it not?"
Neteyam remained quiet
"How bad is it?" She asked "How much danger are you in?"
Again no answer
"Neteyam?"
"Too much for you to get involved in." He truthfully answered "I don't want you getting involved. Like I said, complicated."
Li' Aeyana more than anyone understood how infuriating it was when someone could not recognize her discomfort. It was clear to her that Neteyam was not ready to speak, and perhaps she should not have asked. He would tell her, when he was ready and she needed to respect that.
"I worry for you. Your mind is sometimes somewhere else. You let me talk but I feel bad because I never ask you how you are. I don't want it like this." Li' Aeyana murmured, her voice a quiet hush that barely carried.
Neteyam could only smile so hard till his face would ached, but he did not. His own dignity something he wants to hold onto. Li' Aeyana really was the only one who took time to talk to him, and ask him how he felt truly, when he was not being the perfect son or brother. It seemed so strange for him to see her think she was not doing enough, because she did, more than he could ever imagine.
"You are sweet. When did you become so-" he smiles, very warm and very lovesick. "Nice."
She rolled her eyes slowly standing up "Well, now you ruined it skxawng." She sarcastically remarked "I can always go bad to yelling at-" but a gust of air left her chest as she was pulled down again. She brace herself against his hips and she leaned forward to catch his lips with hers.
He groaned as she leaned her face back. Li' Aeyana's hands find their way to his chest, fingers twisted through the beaded necklace around his neck. The voice in her head screaming at her to calm her heart as she could feel the breadth of his muscles.
"I thought we were done making fun of me." His voice deepened as she felt her cheeks grow warm when as felt his arms around her waist
"It's too much fun making fun of you, forest boy." She teased , she laughed when she felt him pull her closer to him as she rested he forehead on his. Barely feeling breath on hers
"Well, this looks cozy." The two pushed themselves apart to see Jake and Neytiri in the entrance of the Marui pod
"Dad!" Neteyam exclaimed as Li' Aeyana could not find her footing as she straightened her entire posture, brushing her hair to the front to hide her neck as she felt Neytiris eyes on her.
Jake coyly smirk as he approached the flustered pair. Extending his hand to Li' Aeyana "I'm Jake, you must be Li' Aeyana. My daughters told us a lot about you."
"Ma Jake..." Neytire sighed as she could not hide the smile on her face as Neteyam protectively held Li' Aeyana's hand "You are humiliating your son."
"What? I've been wanting to meet her. You heard what Tuk said."
"What did she say now?!" Neteyam rapidly asked "We did not-"
"Woah! No one was saying that." Jake countered quite amused "Unless- then you and I need to have a serious discussion." He continued to his son as Li' Aeyana felt like she could sink to the floor.
"I should go. I um-" she slowly back away as
Don't leave me with them. Neteyam pleadingly signed.
"Sorry." She quietly mouthed before walking out of the pod. Neteyam glanced to his smiling mother and father as Tuk and Kiri came walking into the pod as Li' Aeyana bolted out. Barely giving the girls chance to greet as she avoided eye contact with them.
"Did you ask him?" Tuk excitingly asked "Can Li' Aeyana be my new sister?"
"Tuk, stop. Can't you see you embarrassed lover boy, look how he's blushing." Kiri pointed out as Neteyam glared at his sisters before leaving through the back of the pod.
"Oh, you girls were right. He is whipped." Jake shared a laugh with his daughters as Neytire placed a sweet hand on her husband's shoulder
"Which means you Ma Jake, will have to have a talk with him." Jake's smile faltered in realization as Neytiri placed a kiss on his cheek "Unless you want more tiny feet around you."
"Wait no-" Jake hesitated "We don't really need to have that talk, right?"
"Because warnings worked so well for us?" Neytiri rhetorically asked as Kiri held a proud grin to your face
"Yeah dad. It's almost like you're getting some heavy deja vu."
Authors note:
Jake walking in on them
This was a cute chapter if I say so myself. This movie is so damn serious and sad that honestly I'm giving yall fluff because the angst I'm about to give yall in the next few chapters is diabolical.
Also tysm to all of the reads , votes and comments. I'm so happy to see everyone enjoy this book- because again I'm still in denial even after my fifth watch 🙂🙂 it's ridiculous.
Also tysm for all the reads, I genuinely can not believe how much interaction this book has gotten 💕💕
