Chapter 52: Results

Monday morning was nerve-wracking, to say the least. When I woke up that morning, I was instantly on edge. I knew deep inside that I was just overthinking everything. All of my tests in the past had come back with me doing really well, so why shouldn't this one? I was just scared of disappointing my family and friends. The only consolation I had was that I thought that I was gonna earn ¥6534 from my stupid bet with Kacchan. I was sure that he wouldn't be able to beat Iida or Yaomomo in his test. With this slight reassurance, I got ready for the day. Having a shower. Getting dressed. Attempting to drag a brush through my unruly green hair but ultimately failing when my brush snapped in half again. I sighed and threw it into the brush bin. A bin full of only snapped brushed and combs. After checking myself over in the mirror which hung by my door, I picked up my bag and left my bedroom.

Every morning, I knocked on Kacchan and Shoto's doors so that they could walk down to breakfast with me. I was going to knock on Kacchan's door but there was a note on it saying that he'd already gone down to make breakfast, so I instead turned to my boyfriend's door. Before I knocked, I subconsciously ran a hand through my hair and made sure my tie was straight. My knuckles rapped against the hardwood of Shoto's door and I didn't have to wait long before he was at the door his trousers and shirt on but he didn't have his tie. "Hey Izu. I'll be out in a second." Shoto said. I nodded and leaned against the wall next to his door and looked through Instagram. I stopped every other post to save it to one collection or another. I knew I wasn't going to look at them again, but I still saved them. "Ready to go?" Shoto's gentle voice whispered from beside me. I looked up and smiled at him. "Of course!" I cheered. Shoto chuckled gently, making my cheeks warm, and kissed my cheek.  "Is Katuki not joining us today?" Shoto asked as we walked down the corridor to the lift. "No, he's already downstairs. There was a note on his door." I explained, taking my boyfriend's hand into my own. He nodded in understanding as the lift arrived and we got on, making small talk as we descended.

"Hey Kacchan," I greeted my best friend as we entered the dining hall which had a very good view into the kitchen. "Hey Izu. Hey Icy Hot." Kacchan greeted, briefly looking up from the frying pan. We sat down at the table and spoke about what we felt like the training camp would be like, anything to keep my thoughts away from the exam results. Soon enough, several people began to filter down and join us, greeting us before sitting with their friends. Kacchan finished cooking enough eggs for the class before shouting out for us to collect them. "I'M NOT A FUCKING WAITER! GET YOUR OWN EGGS DIPSHITS!" Kacchan shouted before stomping over with three plates in his hands. "I thought you weren't a waiter." Shoto deadpanned. I laughed as Kacchan and Shoto began to argue playfully. The eggs were delicious, as I had expected, they tasted ever so slightly salty.

Class started normally that day. Dad dragged his feet to the podium just in time for the lesson to start and had Iida and Yaomomo do the register because he was too tired. Once the register was taken, Dad dragged his head up off of his podium and looked around at all of us with tired eyes. It looked like he was getting less sleep than usual. "As you know, today is results day. You will be getting back the scores for all of your academic exams as well as the points for your practical exam. Don't be put out if your exam scores are lower than those around you, you all did quite well." Dad recited. Dad sighed and held up a pile of papers, "Iida and Yaoyorozu will pass out your papers. Once they've done that, you have a free lesson, just don't leave the room." Dad muttered before his head fell onto his podium and he was sound asleep. He really hadn't gotten any sleep.

Iida and Yaomomo went around the classroom, handing out test scores and giving words of congratulations to each person. I started to fiddle with my fingers and tap my foot on the floor to alleviate some of my anxiety. My head swivelled around to every person who exclaimed in excitement at there test results. It was horrible being kept in the dark about how I had done. Finally, Iida stopped next to my desk and handed me my results. "Well done Izuku. It seems as though you have done quite well." Iida gave me now of his rare smiles before moving onto Kacchan who just snatched the paper from Iida's hand and began scanning it. I sighed and hyped myself up to look down at my the paper on my desk.

I looked down at my paper and looked at each of my results with mounting glee and relief. everyone was right, I had done just fine.

Looking at my results I wondered why I was ever worried in the first place. My results were really good. I didn't go below 70% once. I felt tears of joy well up in my eyes. "Why are you crying, you nerd?" Kacchan smirked turning around to face me with his results in his hand. I wiped away my tears and saw that he was ranked number 2 in the class. "You don't have the right to call me a nerd when you did better than me." I laughed at him. He chuckled too and took my results sheet from my desk. "Hey!" I shouted trying to take it back. "Shush, nerd. I just wanna see how you did. Here you can look at mine." he said dismissively. I sighed and took Kacchan's results paper from his hand looked through them.

After looking at Kacchan's results I saw that we got the same percentage on a few of our subjects, like English and Hero Theory. I smirked upon seeing that I did better than him on the practical exam. It made sense seeing as Yaomomo and I finished first. "Damn, you did really well. I told you there was nothing for you to worry about." Kacchan smirked at me. I smiled back and took my sheet from him. "Yeah, you were right. I was just overthinking everything again. I did better than you in Biology." I said pointing to our scores. Kacchan shrugged and put his paper in his bag, "You've always been better than me in Biology. Thank you for helping me with English." he whispered the last part, he rarely ever thanked people. I simply smiled at him and didn't say anything in return. I knew that if I said anything about his gratitude, he would deny he ever said anything. As I was just sat there, I realised something which made me groan in frustration. Kacchan smirked at me, obviously knowing what I was thinking. "Pay up. If I'm second in the class then that means I beat at least one of those bastards." Kacchan cackled evilly. I sighed and reached into my bag to pull out my money. "Here you go." I muttered sadly, I had been saving that money for a while and was going to use it to go on a date with Shoto I knew I should have never made the stupid bet. Kacchan took it from my hands happily before he was called over to the Bakusquad.

A minute after Kacchan left, Kyoka fell into his seat with Yaomomo stood beside the desk. "Hi, Izu. How did you do?" Kyoka asked happily. I gave her my paper, which she scanned over quickly, before nodding happily and congratulating me. "See, we all told you that you would do fine." she said pulling me into a hug. "How did you two do?" I asked them. They both gave me their result papers so that I could look at them. (I don't know if you can tell yet, but I like writing their test scores out).

(That's the last one, I promise)

"Wow Yaomomo! You did so well. All of your scores are in the 90s. And 100% in Japanese Literature! That's amazing! You must have studied for that really hard!" I exclaimed, hugging Yaomomo around the waist since I couldn't reach her shoulders without the hug being uncomfortable. Yaomomo bent her knees slightly to hug me back as she laughed gently. "Thank you Izu. You did very well as well." She returned. When we pulled away, I yanked Kyoka into a hug as well. "You did great as well, Kyoka. You went up 1 in the class ranking." I said excitedly. Kyoka laughed and patted my head as we pulled away. "You didn't do too bad yourself." she giggled. We spoke about random things and how excited we were for the training camp for the remainder of the lesson. When Cementos opened the door to start our literature lesson, everyone returned to our seats. I tried to focus on the lesson, but I couldn't help but be distracted by the palpable excitement in the air for the training camp.

The week which led up to Friday was full of excitement and people running backwards and forwards so that they had everything they needed. Every morning we had 2 lessons before we were allowed the rest of the day off. We were doing half days. It was Thursday, the day before we would be leaving for the training camp, and a bunch of my classmates and I were going to the shopping centre to get some things.

"I need some boots but money is tight at the moment. I'm hoping they have some at the second-hand shop." Ochako said as we walked into the bustling crowds of the shopping centre. The Bakusquad, Shinso, Kyoka, Yaomomo, Iida, Tsu, Shoto and I were all walking together. Several other people in our class had gone to the shopping centre, but they went in separate groups to us. "We can help you get some from a shoe shop, kero. It's no big deal." Tsu croaked, placing a placating hand on Ochako's arm. Ochako shook her head quickly, waving her hands in front of her in dismissal. "Oh, you don't have to do that. I'm fine with just getting them from a second-hand shop. I'd feel awful if I let you buy me my shoes!" Ochako squeaked, looking down at her feet and fiddling with her fingers. "No. We'll chip in, I need to buy some boots as well. OMG! We could totally match!" Mina squealed, grabbing both Tsu and Ochako by their arms and dragging them over to the escalator. "If we're splitting up, I would like to go to the camping shop and get some supplies." Iida said, watching the three girls giggle on the escalator. Since people wanted to split up and go their separate ways to buy things, we all agreed to meet in the food court to eat lunch together, I texted Ochako this information before Shoto took my hand and pulled me towards a pharmaceutical shop. "What do you need from here?" I asked my boyfriend. "I need to buy some sunscreen and toilet paper for my room. I've been having digestion problems recently and-" I slapped my hand over my boyfriend's mouth to stop him from saying any more. I really didn't want to hear more about his stomach issues. "Ok, I don't need to hear more. Let's just go in and get your stuff." I chuckled. Shoto smiled at me as I removed my hand. I loved his smile.

After coming out of the shop, Shoto said he needed to go to the toilet, so I said I'd wait for him outside by the fountain by the toilets. Whilst I was sat on the edge of the fountain, watching as families passed me by, going about there usual business, I felt eyes upon me. The shiver which went down my spine made me feel as though the eyes on me weren't very friendly. I was about to pull out my phone and do the old 'I'm talking with someone so if you attack me they'll know' trick but I was too late. Somebody's hand wrapped around my throat from behind. From the dry skin and the fact that only 4 fingers were touching my skin, I could guess who it was. "Don't make any sudden movements." Shigaraki hissed in my ear, his stale breath ghosting over my cheek.

I could feel my heart rate increases tenfold at the proximity of the villain. "W-w-why are you here? Did Hisashi send you?" I stuttered. Shigaraki's grip on my neck tightened slightly, but his fifth finger didn't come into contact with my skin. "That man couldn't order me around if he tried. He's an asshole. No, the reason I'm here is to ask you a question. Why do people idolise Stain when we're both trying to bring about the end of the heroes?" Shigaraki asked in disgust. It was good to know that even Hisashi's co-conspirators didn't like him. "Umm... I guess it's because Stain h-h-had ideals. He was focused on the corruption of heroes. He still idolized All Might. You just want to bring about the downfall of society for no reason. At least you haven't made any reason known." I whispered. I was shitting myself. Not only was somebody uncomfortably close to me but they were male and I had issues when it came to men. I knew rationally that not all men were going to hurt me, but I had trust issues when it came to men older than me. That's why I couldn't transform into men I wasn't close to very easily. Of course, I knew that Shigaraki would have no problem hurting me. So I was at the peak of discomfort. I was on the verge of a panic attack. "All Might. He always comes into the equation. The fucking symbol of peace. A shining beacon for these normies." Shigaraki spat, I assume he was looking out at all of the people walking past us. It only registered after a moment that he called everyone normies. What the fuck was with this man. He was in his 20s and acted like a teenager. "I could kill them you know. I could kill them all, and you. I'd be gone before any hero could arrive." Shigaraki hissed. I felt tense at his words, I didn't doubt he would do it. He wasn't right in the head. My eyes widened as I felt Shigaraki's fifth finger getting closer to my neck. "Izu? Who's this?" Shoto's familiar voice called from a meter away. I almost cried with relief as Shigaraki quickly withdrew his hand from my neck and ducked his head. "Don't you worry about me. I'll be on my way now." Shigaraki said in a falsely upbeat voice. I watched as he walked into the ground, blending into the crowd. "Izuku? Are you ok? You look like you're about to have a panic attack." Shoto whispered, taking my hands into one of his and stroking my face gently. "Shoto. Call the police." I whispered before I slumped forward against his chest. Passed out.

I woke up in a sterile smelling hospital room. I sat bolt upright and looked around to see that Papa, Dad and Auntie Nemuri were all sat at my bedside and looking at me with concern. "What happened?" I asked hesitantly. They shared a look before Papa spoke up. "You were confronted by Shigaraki whilst you were at the shopping centre. Todoroki stepped in before he did anything. You told him to call the police before you passed out on him. We were really worried about you Zuzu." Papa said with a watery smile. I remembered what had happened and started asking an onslaught of questions. "Was anyone hurt? Did he get away? Where's Shoto? Do Kacchan and Kyoka know I'm here? What about the rest of my friends?" I asked at rapid speed. Dad placed a hand over my mouth to stop my questions. "Nobody was hurt. Shigaraki got away. Shoto is waiting outside alongside Katsuki, Kyoka, Uraraka and Yaoyorozu. The rest of your friends were alerted and are at the dorms." Dad answered. I nodded and settled back. "A detective is going to ask you a few questions, ok?". I nodded again and waited for the detective to enter the room.

After answering a bunch of dreary questions, I was finally allowed to leave the hospital. My friends and boyfriend all hugged me and asked if I was ok. I had to reassure them several times that I was fine before they finally stepped back and let me out of their vice-like hugs. After that, we were all taken back to the dorms where several more people hugged the air out of me and asked if I was ok 100 more times. It was annoying after the first time, but I just smiled and repeated the same thing over and over again. " I'm fine. I just overreacted.". I was thankful when Dad finally told everyone to leave me alone and sent us all to our rooms. "He really is our dad." I heard Kirishima whisper to Sero as they got into the lift. I decided I wanted to walk up the stairs.

When I arrived on my floor, Kacchan and Shoto were waiting by my room. "There you are pipsqueak. All three of us know that you're going to have trouble sleeping tonight, so we got permission from Shota to all sleep in your room. Originally, Shoto was gonna be the only one, but Shota apparently doesn't trust you two." Kacchan drawled as he leant against the wall. I felt my face heat up at what Kacchan had said. "KACCHAN!" I squealed indignantly. Kacchan shrugged and pushed himself off of the wall, "Not my words. It was your dad who said it." he argued. I sighed and unlocked my door so that the two boys could walk in.

The three of us watched films and joked around for a few hours before I got tired. It was 10 pm and the events of the day had tired me out. I leaned over the side of my bed and looked down at my boyfriend and best friend who were both sleeping on air mattresses. "Good night guys." I yawned. "Night, Nerd." "Goodnight, Love." the two boys replied. I rolled back over in my bed. I was out like a light from the moment my head hit the pillow.

You probably don't want to know but I'm gonna tell you the order of the class rankings. The order is: Momo, Katsuki, Izuku, Iida, Shoto, Kyoka, Tsu, Shinso, Ojiro, Shoji, Sato, Koda, Ochako, Tokoyami, Kirishima, Sero, Hagakure, Aoyama, Mina and Kaminari. So Kaminari and Mina still ranked last, but they did well enough in their exams that they don't have to do extra lessons.

Something I liked about this chapter was the minute detail where Kirishima says: "He really is our dad.". Anyway, thank you for reading chapter 52 of Occurrence and I hope you have a wonderful day wherever you are.
