Chapter 38: Moving In

*Izuku POV*

After the awards ceremony, everybody changed back into their school uniform and headed back to our classroom. I was a little late into class because I had to visit Recovery Girl. She healed the remainder of my injuries which left me very woozy and tired. Recovery Girl told me she wouldn't ordinarily heal me at such a rapid pace but I would need my arms for something which was happening soon. Her words sounded really ominous and I had an uneasy feeling as I walked to my class.

When I opened the door, I saw my classmates chatting amongst themselves. They all seemed to be praising each other for their good efforts in the sports festival. Kacchan was surrounded by the self-proclaimed 'Bakusquad' who were boosting his ego. They were praising his fighting skills whilst mocking his attitude. I could see an irk mark growing on the poor boy's forehead as Kaminari dramatically shouted: "Fight me you bastard!". The whole class chortled at Kaminari except for Kacchan who just stared straight ahead and gritted his teeth. I decided to intervene so that Kacchan didn't blow up his friends (not that he'd ever admitted that they were his friends). "Hey, Kacchan! Well done on placing first." I laughed, placing an arm around his neck and pulling him down to my level so that I could hug him. Kacchan didn't resist my hug, knowing that my arms were in a fragile state. Plus, I had a sneaking suspicion that Kacchan actually enjoyed being hugged by me, though he always brushed off such accusations. "Thanks, Izu. Well done on placing third. You nearly beat that Half and Half bastard." Kacchan laughed. I could only guess he was imagining the look of horror on Todoroki's face when millions of spider's swarmed the arena.  We conversed for a few minutes, Mina and Kirishima occasionally chiming in to make a joke or comment on particularly memorable moments. Soon enough Dad walked in and told us to all get back to our seats.

"First of all, I would like to congratulate all of you on your efforts in the sports festival. It's rare that every person on the podium is from the same class. You will have a 3-day break from school." Dad intoned. Excited looks were thrown around the classroom. We had been working really hard during classes, especially hero classes. I think we all subconsciously took what happened at the USJ and used it as fuel to strive to be the best we could be. "However," when Dad spoke up again, the entire class's heads snapped towards him waiting for him to give us bad news which there would inevitably be. "You won't be using this time to relax. The three days you have off are being used for you to move into your dormitories. You can ask questions after I explain. The first day, I suggest you pack up everything you want from your rooms at home. That includes clothes, decorations and the likes. The second day you will actually be moving into the dorms. A truck will come to your house to pick up you and your belongings. A teacher will be on the truck so that you know that it's from UA. The second and third days will be used to unpack and adjust to the dorms." Shota sounded bored as he recited the information. The entire class looked surprised at this sudden revelation. Mina raised her hand to ask a question. Shota nodded his head in her direction, indicating she could ask her question. "When did you ask our parent's about this? My parents haven't told me anything about this!" Mina asked curiously. Dad shrugged his shoulders and explained that teachers had gone to everybody's houses and all of our legal guardians had signed consent forms. After a few more questions about how much we could bring and how the dorms worked, we were dismissed for the day.

The first day of our three-day break, I packed up all my hero merchandise and personal belongings into a box. Dad and Papa weren't home because they had to sort some final things out at UA so I was all on my own for the first time in a while. I had to message either Papa or Dad every half an hour to confirm I was safe and if I didn't message for an hour they said they'd video call me. Some people may have found this constricting or annoying, but for me, it was reassuring and made me feel safe. I had nearly packed everything that I wanted to up when I came across the only photo I possessed of my mother. It was the family picture. Two pairs of green eyes alight with joy staring out of the photo. After the USJ incident, I had covered Hisashi's face with a piece of paper so that every time I tried to look at my mum I wouldn't have a panic attack. My mum looked so happy and animated in the picture. So full of life.

I was snapped out of my reminiscing when I heard the front door open and close. I felt my heart pound in my chest. It could be anyone. It could even be Hisashi. I looked around my room before deciding to jump onto my bed, transforming into an Eraserhead cuddly toy whilst in the air. I could hear the heavy footsteps of the intruder as they slowly made their way up the stairs. I wanted desperately to run away but it was too late for that, the silhouette of the person was stood in my doorway. The person's figure looked kind of familiar. The light to my bedroom flicked on and the face of the invader was revealed to be... Kacchan! He looked around the room for a bit, a confused and slightly scared look on his face, he was clearly trying to locate me. "For fuck sake! Izuku? Are you here?" Kacchan asked in a concerned tone of voice. Seeing as it was only Kacchan, I transformed back into myself.

He looked slightly surprised when I just popped up out of nowhere. "There you are!" Kacchan shouted which caused me to flinch slightly. He had a serious problem when it came to controlling the volume of his voice. "Why didn't you call out when you entered the house. I thought you were, him!" I yelled back, putting extra emphasis on the last word. Kacchan shrugged and sat on my bed, "I did shout but you didn't reply, I thought something had happened." he replied nonchalantly, but I could hear the underlying fear in his voice. We sat and spoke for a while. Kacchan helped me pack the rest of my things before he left and I was left alone. Luckily, Dad and Papa came home shortly after and we enjoyed a nice meal of tonkatsu.

The next day Papa and I loaded my things into the back of Papa's car and drove off towards UA. Dad had suggested that I just come in with Papa instead of waiting around all day for a van to come and collect me and my things and whilst that required me to be up early, I didn't mind.

Papa helped me carry my things up into my assigned bedroom before he had to leave to drive a truck around to everybody else's houses. I started decorating my room with all of my hero merchandise. The walls of my room were plain white but I planned on changing that. I ran outside and grabbed a bunch of sticks to transform into all of the things I needed to personalize my bedroom. Before I commenced with my plan, I quickly called my dad to make sure we were allowed to paint and customize our rooms however we wanted. He told me I could but not to go too crazy. With that confirmation, I set to work.

By the time the dorms were bustling with activity from the other teens moving into their rooms, I had finally finished decorating mine. I'd painted three of the four white walls grey and the fourth wall was a mural of sorts. It was decorated with paintings of my favourite hero's such as; All Might, Eraserhead, Present Mic, Midnight, Edgeshot, Mirko, Ms Joke and Hawks. They were all stood in what I can only describe as powerful poses. On all of the grey walls, I had put up my posters. There were posters above my bed, in the entryway and by my wardrobe practically every plain wall had been decorated with memorabilia. My desk (which alongside the bed had been provided by the school) was pushed up against the mural whilst my bed was on the opposite (left) wall. My figurines decorated every surface except for a small portion of my desk. Looking around my room I smiled triumphantly. My room looked perfect, there was only one more detail I needed to add. I carefully picked up the photo frame as if it could break if I was too rough. I stared at my mum's youthful face as I placed the photo frame on my bedside table so that she could watch over me as I slept.

An hour or so passed with me sitting on my bed, gently strumming at my guitar. I wasn't really playing anything in particular, just strumming at the strings and playing little bits of multiple songs. I was interrupted by rapid knocks at my door. I put my guitar on its stand in the corner of my room, near the balcony, and opened my bedroom door. Ochako was stood in front of me, bouncing on the balls of her feet and smiling sweetly. "Hey, Ochako." I greeted her. "Hey, Izuku. The entire class is down in the common's area because Mr Aizawa is going to explain the rules. Oh also, Jiro told me to tell you to bring your guitar." Ochako informed me. I nodded my head and picked up my guitar before leaving the room and walking to the commons area with Ochako. I was confused as to why Kyoka asked me to take my guitar. If we were going to do band practice it would most likely be in one of our rooms, so I don't know why I needed my guitar in the commons.

We arrived in the sitting room. Most of the class was already there. The only person I could see who was missing was Yaomomo, who quickly came rushing in a few moments after Ochako and I. "Now that you're all here," Dad began, "I need to explain the rules of the dorms. But first, I'd like to introduce a new member of Class 1A.". A murmur ran around the assembled teens as we all tried to guess who our new classmates could potentially be. "Quiet!" Dad hissed, his hair beginning to float around his bandaged head. The class was immediately silent. "Our new student is Hitoshi Shinso. He did well at the sports festival so he has been transferred from general studies. He will be slightly behind all of you so please help him where you can. He won't be arriving until tomorrow." Dad explained. Everybody in the class nodded. "Now for the rules. As you can see there are 4 floors including the ground floor. The ground floor has the laundry room, kitchen, lounge area, dining area and my room. The second floor is the girl's rooms. No male should be on that floor between the times of 10 pm-8:00 am. The third and fourth floors are the male bedrooms. No female should be on those floors between 10 pm and 8:00 am." Dad began to explain the rules which so far all seemed to be fair. "The curfew is 10 pm - 7 am. You shouldn't be out of your rooms at these times. If you have left the dorms for the day, you need to be back by 8:30 pm unless you have permission to be out later. Nobody should be in another person's room after curfew. I don't care if you're the same gender. Unless you have my permission to have a sleepover, you sleep in your own rooms." Dad glared at all of us as he said this, the implications of what he had just said were very obvious. "Other than that, the rules are what you'd normally expect. No breaking anything. No fighting. Keep the noise to a minimum at indecent times of the day. Also, there's a chores chart in the kitchen, if you don't do your chores, there will be a punishment. Do what you want now." Dad concluded before slinking off to what I can only assume is his room.

As soon as Shota was out of sight people began to talk loudly amongst themselves. I walked over to Kyoka, leaving Ochako to talk to Tsu, and plopped onto the sofa beside her. "Why'd you ask me to bring my guitar?" I asked. She shrugged and stood up, walking to a speaker which I hadn't seen before. "We're gonna practice. Yaomomo and a few others have been asking if they could come and watch us practice so I thought we could just perform for them today. We can do 'This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race' and 'Check Yes, Juliet' if you want." Kyoka said, plugging her base into the speaker. Whilst it was a surprise that we were going to be playing for the class, I didn't mind doing so. "Ok. Where's Kacchan? We kind of need him if we're gonna play." I asked Kyoka. She said that he was just getting the microphones from her room then he'd be down. I nodded and started to help her prepare the instruments, acutely aware of the fact that some people were watching us and waiting for us to start playing.

When Kacchan arrived with the mics, we quickly set them up and stood in front of the class who had since stopped talking and were just watching us. Which was creepy, to say the least. Nobody said a word as they watched us expectantly. "Ok... So, a couple of you wanted to watch us practice so we're just gonna play a few songs for you." Kyoka said somewhat nervously. I knew that once she was in her element she would be fine. Kyoka's eyes shifted to me, begging me to step forward and help her. "All of our songs are original, this one is called This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race (by Fall Out Boy)." I stepped in. Kyoka looked at me thankfully I looked back at Kacchan, signalling that we were starting.

We started the song and I could see the tension melt out of Kyoka's shoulders as she played. As she sang the class stared at us avidly, their eyes were wide as they listened to us play. As soon as we got into the chorus, the energy of the room picked up. "I'm a leading man and the lies I weave are oh-so intricate, oh-so intricate." Kyoka sang. I sang the backing vocals whilst I played my guitar enthusiastically. I could feel the wide smile on Kacchan's face as he played the drums with fervour. I beamed. Playing with my best friends always brought a cheesy smile to my face.

We finished the song with a flourish. Our classmates stared at us for a second before standing up and clapping for us. Mina and Kaminari were cheering enthusiastically. Screaming compliments about our song and performance. "Another one!" quite a few people cheered. Kyoka smiled wider. "This one is called Check Yes, Juliet (by We The Kings)" Kyoka laughed. I saw Dad and Papa enter the room out of the corner of my eye and smiled even wider. Papa had never heard me play before and it had been a while since Dad had heard us. I started the song by playing my guitar, then Kacchan and Kyoka jumped in before Kyoka started singing. "Lace up your shoes (eh oh eh oh). Here's how we do. Run, baby, run. Don't ever look back, they'll tear us apart if you give them the chance. Don't sell your heart, don't say we're not meant to be. Run, baby, run. Forever we'll be, you and me.". Kyoka sang the chorus energetically. I could see sweat beading on her brow as she played the bass. There was something euphoric about playing alongside my friends.

Again our performance was met with a huge round of applause from our classmates and my parents. Papa seemed to be extra enthusiastic. He clapped the loudest and would probably have used his quirk had Dad not glared at him. "Wow! You guys are amazing, kero." Tsu complimented, making me blush. I heard Kacchan tut and mumble under his breath "Course we are.". We were about to set down our instruments but we were stopped by none other than Todoroki. "I quite enjoyed that. Could you please play one more?" he asked. I was surprised he was speaking. He seemed like the least likely person to want is to continue. "Yes. Your music is quite good, I would also like to hear more." Tokoyami commented. I looked over at Kacchan and Kyoka to see if they were ok with playing another song. They nodded and we put our heads together to think of a song to play. There was a little argument that broke out before Kacchan suggested we play Chop Suey. Kyoka and I shared a look. We knew that Kacchan only liked playing that song because he could get aggressive with his drumming. I had no problem playing it so I shrugged and it was agreed upon.

"This one is a bit... different. It's more on the heavy metal side." Kyoka warned, glaring back at Kacchan who had a gigantic smirk on his face. "It's called Chop Suey! (by System Of A Down)" Kyoka said before nodding to me to start playing. I took a deep breath, prepared myself for the noise about to hit my ears and started playing.

The class seemed to confused as to what Kyoka meant when she said that the song was on the heavy metal until a couple of seconds into the song when Kacchan started playing the drums. That wasn't the end of it though, Kacchan 'sang' most of the song. It wasn't so much singing as just shouting. The parts which were actually sang were sang by Kyoka and me.

The class sat in stunned silence for a moment before bursting out with applause. I loved the feeling of exhilaration which ran through my body after playing that song. I was glad the class like our band. "Hey guys, why is your band called 'The Juveniles'?" somebody asked. I looked at Kacchan and Kyoka. They could explain since they chose the name.

Am I using the band to share my favourite music? Yes. Yes, I am. But, if you think about it, Kyoka's favourite genre of music is rock, so it makes sense for her to want to play most of these songs.

Hey, thanks for reading Chapter 38 of Occurrence. Somebody left me a lovely comment on yesterdays chapter and they said that I should try and say something positive about my writing every chapter. So I'll give it a go. Something I like about this chapter is that I show how much Izuku misses his mum. I think you can tell how guilty he is and how much he is scared of Hisashi.

Anyway, thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day wherever you are.
