Yūhi Ren
Name: Yūhi Ren
Age: Part 1: 25-26
Birthday: March 20
Nature: Yin Release/Fire Release
Height: Part 1: 6'3"
Weight: Part 1: 160 lb
Blood Type: AB
Classification: Shinobi, Jounin, Sensei
Affiliation: Konohagakure
Clan: N/A
Hair: Black, slightly curled, falling just past his chin
Eyes: Crimson, angular, shadowed by heavy brows
General Appearance: Ren plays the part of a typical Konoha jounin well, dressing simply in long, dark pants, black sandals, and an evergreen flak jacket. Under his vest, however, he sports a sleeveless red tank, the neck of which extends upwards to his throat. Fingerless, metal-plated gloves adorn his hands, the ends of which he's rolled up so that his forearms are bare. He wears his headband at his forehead and his weapons pouch at his right hip, with an additional kunai holster on his thigh.
When not participating in any active missions, he wears simple black square-framed glasses. It's unclear - even to his students - whether or not they're purely an accessory, as they can't really fathom how he can see on missions if he actually requires glasses in the first place.
Personality: His students have fallen into the habit of calling him "Yandere-sensei" due to his... rather violent mood swings. Strictly speaking, he is not, in fact, a yandere, but the misnomer is easily explained: To his students, he is generally the devil incarnate; to pretty much anyone else, he's charming, effervescent, and downright likable. His genin are always being reprimanded for complaining about their sensei, as to the outside world, he's perfect - and he absolutely loves the confusion he spreads. A scant few know of his honest temperament, his cousin being one, the Hokage another, and he's unlikely to ever admit to the accusations of his students in public.
Though he hopes he'll never have to display this, Ren has one very redeeming quality: He will die for his students without a second thought, and he will decimate anyone who threatens them with whatever means he's capable of.
There's also his intelligence, which plays into his love of strategy, which then plays into his love of torturing his students with seemingly mindless games and the like. They're his version of tests, and he's only pleased if all three of them succeed in the challenges he sets for them.
Relationships:
Yūhi Kurenai - Ren's older cousin, Kurenai, is his closest living family member, and the only person who can really tolerate his abrasive personality, whether he be the gallant charmer, or the self-proclaimed king of the shadows. They grew up together, only separating when they entered the Academy, as Ren is a year younger and was therefore enrolled a year after Kurenai. He learned his love of genjutsu from her, and considers her to be his goal in terms of how he wants his skills to progress in the future, though at this point they're already nearly evenly matched.
Sarutobi Asuma - Due to how often Kurenai's accompanied by the Sarutobi, Ren's gotten to know him fairly well, and actually admires him a great deal, though he's yet to tell him he approves of his "relationship" with Kurenai. He's taken an interest in the progress of one of Asuma's students, Nara Shikamaru, and frequently inquires about him when they meet up; he was the one to suggest that Asuma test the boy in order to gauge his intelligence.
Mitarashi Anko - Acquainted through the Academy, the two bonded through their mutually... strange personalities. At the time, Ren was sorely disappointed that he and Anko were placed on different genin teams; however, after seeing the result of her trust in Orochimaru and his subsequent betrayal, he's quite pleased his former sensei was as different from the Sannin as she could be.
Hatake Kakashi - The most one could say of their relationship is that there is some mutual respect between them. Ren acknowledges Kakashi's proven battle prowess, and likewise, Kakashi views him as a valuable shinobi of the Leaf.
Might Gai - He doesn't have the energy to deal with him, which is what he says whenever Gai asks if he'd like to join him and Kakashi in their "youthful escapades".
Fighting Capabilities
Taijutsu - He abhors it, honestly, but he's never let his dislike for taijutsu hinder his training, and he works just as diligently to maintain and improve his skill in this area as he does any other. He can hold his own (for a brief period of time) against Might Gai, but he's always left the more battered of the two after the brawl's conclusion
Ninjutsu - Proficient in a number of impressive Fire Style jutsu, Ren actually excels in the handling of his ninjutsu, much more so than his cousin. As a genin, he had no talent for the simplest of jutsu, but after discovering he was capable of performing higher-level Fire Style jutsu, he endeavored to teach himself as many as possible; it's rumored that he actually sought help from an Uchiha for this (who turned him down immediately), then turned to Kakashi for assistance
Genjutsu - He rivals Kurenai for the most powerful genjutsu caster in the Leaf, which is mainly due to the fact that she taught him the majority of her techniques as they grew up together

Miscellaneous
Likes: "Ruining his genin's lives," returning home after a mission, sparring, fire
Dislikes: Complete silence, the opinions of others, Orochimaru, the Sannin in general (he finds them all to be slightly pretentious and somewhat irrelevant), slow mornings, feeling restless when he spends too much time in the village
Academy Graduation Age: 10
Chuunin Promotion Age: 12
Jounin Promotion Age: 18
* He really likes fire, for some reason. A number of his genjutsu techniques
revolve around the temperamental element
