Faline

Title of Fanfic: Adrift [One Piece]

Name: Faline

Age: 25

Birthday: August 9

Blood Type: B

Height: 5'4"

Weight: 120 lb

Hair: Long, orange, bound in two high pigtails

Eyes: Amber

Crew: Wraith Pirates

Role: Spy/Scholar

Epithet: "Spook"

Bounty: 47, 000, 000

Appearance: With a pretty face and a short stature, Faline emits quite the innocent, feminine aura - which, for the most part, is accurate for her persona. Her waist-length orange hair is kept tamed in two high pigtails, bound by two brown clips; this both saves her the trouble of constantly having to swat hair from her eyes and allows her to escape Naois' scolding, as he doesn't thinks swordswoman should struggle with the effort of lengthy hair.

While training, Faline dons a simple white shirt and fitted white capris. She claims she's able to distinguish whether or not she has a troublesome injury by how prominently she can see the blood against her pale clothing. On any other occasion, she typically wears a sunny yellow tunic with billowy sleeves and a scooping neckline, as well as black leggings and knee-high brown boots. Her sword's scabbard is hung at her waist from a black sash; the scabbard itself is of minimalistic design, made of brown leather and decorated only with delicate, creeping vines. Her sword, named Hanazakari, is a traditional katana with a yellow hilt and an obsidian guard; she also keeps a tantō tucked into her boot for when she's caught grappling with an enemy.

Personality: Generally a doting motherly figure to anyone reasonably close to her, Faline is the type to offer gentle, subtle advice to keep someone on track, or to give them a boost in whatever they're doing. She doesn't take well to competition, especially where swordsmanship is concerned, and prefers to train for the sake of training, or in the effort of protecting those she cares about. Faline is slow to anger - she'll more than likely brush off insults, either those aimed at herself or her friends, with a consoling smile, which tends to be taken as some sort of sarcasm - but is vicious if she's worked up to the point of violence.

She really is seen as the mother of the crew, even more than Catriona.

Preferred Method of Fighting: Faline wields her sword expertly in combat, only switching it out for her tantō if the situation calls for it.

Devil Fruit: N/A

Short History: A citizen of Fortitudo Island by birth, Faline grew up in relative normality with her two parents and a younger sister. At the age of nine, she was working towards her goal of becoming a seamstress when she met Roronoa Naois, a young boy whose family had just arrived on the island. He was a brash, wild sort of child, though she immediately took a liking to him, and the two formed an unlikely friendship. Faline learned that Naois's family planned to establish a dojo on the island after they'd integrated themselves into the small community, and subsequently, she learned of his passion for swordplay. It was a spectacle Faline hadn't been exposed to prior to their meeting - the island was a quiet one, without pirate or naval influence. She'd never even considered how people might defend themselves.

Through her friendship with Naois, Faline slowly grew to love the weight of a well-crafted sword in her hands, the feeling of arcing the blade just so, so as to catch your opponent off guard, and she decided that she'd rather make that her new goal: to become a well-known swordswoman. Naois, as well as his entire family (who Faline had befriended in turn), supported her dream.

Then came the night she lost everything.

Faline woke in the middle of the night to the acrid aroma of suffocating smoke, the gray haze that slithered beneath her door and encircled her throat like airy shackles. Her house was on fire, and she was the only one to wake before the entire first floor was alight. Faline tried first to rescue her younger sister, but she slept in the room downstairs, where she was closer to their parents' bedroom, and by the time Faline had reached her, the house was crumbling. In her struggle to carry her unconscious sister through the maze of flaming debris, a falling beam struck her back, pinning her to the ground, and her sister went flying from her arms. Faline, her lungs flooded with smoke, soon fell unconscious.

When she awoke, she was recovering at the local clinic, where she informed that she was the only member of her family to make it out alive, and not even whole. She'd had her leg amputated, as it was so badly crushed by the beam that it hadn't been salvageable. She was soon outfitted with a prosthetic leg, which she had replaced over and over as she grew, and whenever the brittle mechanics of the leg proved unable to handle her rigorous training.

The Roronoa family took her in after the fire, raising her like one of their own, and Naois helped her work out a style of swordplay that wouldn't strain her as harshly.

Dream: She dreams of one day besting Naois in a duel, though she's deemed the likelihood of her victory to be extremely low.
