Yin and Yang
Morgan sprinted through the yard chasing Maria around with one arm pointing straight out, pretending to be Ironman and an unnamed villain.
"Is it bad that they upset me?" Rachael asks, watching the twins run through the yard while they stand on the cabin porch.
"What do you mean?" Peter asks, looking over at her, from where he was leaning against the porch banister beside her.
"They make me so... mad? Or no I'm not mad... I'm just-... Ugh I don't- I don't know..." Rachael huffs, closing here eyes, taking a deep breath in an attempt to refrain from crying. Peter put his hand over hers and squeezed it supportively. "Gosh, I make it sound like I hate them. I-I don't hate them, Peter. I-I love them. So much actually. I mean they're my sisters. I just- I can't help, but feel like they're our replacements."
"How so?" Peter asks, observing her carefully. He understood exactly what she was feeling, but felt that if she got it off her mind it would help more.
"I just... the timing fits. As soon as we leave dad has two more. Two better versions, two normal versions." Rachael sighs, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Yeah... no I get it. I feel like that too when I think about it too much... And you're right he didn't think he'd ever see us again so it'd make sense, but he also wasn't expecting them to come along either..." Peter says, putting his arm around her waist to bring her closer to him.
"Maybe he wasn't replacing us... the universe was or-or something more powerful..." Rachael mumbles.
"Yeah, maybe we keep the balance and when we're gone the world needs a back up pair. One of innocence and creation and one of realism and destruction." Peter laughs.
"You really think that about yourself?" Rachael asks, picking her head up off his shoulder to looking at him.
"I mean yeah... Everybody I get close to ends up dying and anytime I try to do to... well anything really, I end up making things worse." Peter laughs uncomfortably, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Pete...That...that doesn't make you the universe's Yin. That just makes you a person and a normal one at that. Sure, your luck may be worse than most, but that does not mean you are the bringer of it. You have brought nothing but love and light to my life. So please tell me how that's going to be my demise?" Rachael says, taking his hand in her own.
"I-I..." He couldn't find the right words or any words to responded, so her just let his lips do the talking, pressing them against hers gently.
"Mmh..." Rachael smiles against his lips, before pulling away. "Hmm... Not what I was expecting, but I'll take it as a 'Thank you, Rachael, you are the love of my life and the only constant in my terrible, terrible, misfortunate life'."
"Hm. Yeah... Something like that." Peter smiles, brushing a piece of hair from her face. "You really are the girl of my dreams aren't you?"
"I'm the girl of everyone's dreams. So don't pretend like you're special." Rachael smirks, laughing at herself a bit.
"Oh, I think I'm pretty special how many people get to do this to you?" Peter smiles kissing her again.
"Oh, only about half of them." Rachael smirks pushing him away gently.
"Uh! Hey!" Peter laughs, punching her arm playfully.
"What? I thought I said you're not special." She giggles.
