We Need Help
One More Day pt. 1
(So this is like how I did the Sins Past mini series cause I like doing these. I did do this as a RP prompt though so it may be familiar to like two of you. It's also a comic so like...yeah. But this is after an alternate version(comic) of CW)
"It's my fault. I never should have revealed my identity to the world. Never should have left May and Rachael alone. We should have skipped town. Left the state. Left the country. Left the planet. Gone anywhere. Anywhere they could not find us. But we didn't. And when Kingpin sent someone to kill me. May took the bullet. And now she's dying. It should be me on the table, not her. My fault. I'd give anything, do anything, to bring her back from the edge. To have just one more day with her." Peter thinks as he stands over the side of May's hospital bed waiting for news about her condition. It didn't look good though, she wasn't breathing on her own and they were all at risk for even being in a public building at all.
Rachael snaked her arms around him from behind, giving him a light squeeze. She rested her head on his shoulder, knowing he wasn't taking this very well.
"Sorry, it's been quite a night out there." The doctor sighs walking into the room. "...The emergency room is maxed out and we've all had to pull double shifts. Anyway, I'm Doctor Fine, I've been assigned to review the case of your aunt...May Morgan. So you are..."
"Peter Morgan." Peter replies not turning to look at the doctor, he kept his gaze on May almost afraid to look away.
"Her nephew." The doctor says.
"Right." Peter nods.
"Hmm...that's odd...says here she was admitted without any kind of I.D...no driver's license, life insurance-" The doctor says raising an eyebrow as he reads over her medical chart.
"She...we left all that at home, in the rush to get her here." Rachael says covering for them, being a fugitive made all of this so much harder.
"Um, hmmm...She doesn't have any insurance does she?" The doctor asks.
"I don't understand, what's all that got to do with-" Peter says anger bubbling inside him from all of his questions.
"Look, I'm not an administrator, I don't get into billing options...I'm just trying to help you because- Obviously, we're going to do all we can to make your aunt comfortable. But the hospitals resources are thin on the best of days, and today...well, unless they can get some kind of indication of ability to pay, she'll have to be moved into the charity care ward, unless Medicare or the Welfare Department can arrange some kind of-" The doctor explains.
"Welfare...? Charity Ward?" Peter interrupts his anger starting to boil over. "This is my aunt!"
"Peter-" Rachael says softly placing her hand on his shoulder.
"She is not a charity case!" Peter shouts his palms tightening into fists. "You just try to move her to that place and I'll-"
"Mr. ... Morgan, was it? Your aunt...doesn't even know where she is. We're barely picking up brain function, just synaptic echoes. She could be here, or in a room at the Ritz Hotel, or...I'm sorry." The doctor sighs. "If you had some kind of insurance, that would be one thing. A bottomless checkbook would be even better. I'm not sure any of the big-ticket treatments would help her in any event. In the end, they'd end up bankrupting you, and I don't think she'd want that."
"Peter...I could go talk to the my dad..." Rachael sighs turning to him.
"No...you'll be seen...we can't risk it." Peter replies protectively.
"We have to do something..." Rachael says.
"I know...and I'm going to. I'll talk to Tony." Peter says.
"Peter... do you really think he'd listen to you..." Rachael sighs.
"No..." Peter sighs.
"I have the best chance to get through to him." Rachael says, turning away from him. "I'll be back as fast as I can. Stay here, and don't let them touch her...move her to that place..."
"They'd have to go through me first." Peter says determined.
"Excuse me, where are you going?" The doctor asks.
"To pay a visit to someone with a bottomless checkbook." Rachael sighs pushing the door open and walking out.
—
"Feels weird using my powers around the city with out a mask on, but it doesn't matter anymore both of my identities are targets now. Besides I don't have time to change not with May's life at stake." Rachael's thoughts bounce around in her mind.
Rachael landed in the balcony of the Avengers compound, going to open the door only to find it locked, she walked over to the keypad next to the door typing in her access code.
"Access Denied." Friday's voice called out. Rachael tried again only for it not to work.
"Friday, it's me. Let me in." Rachael sighs.
"You no longer have clearance to enter the building." Friday replies.
"For fucks sake, dad..." Rachael growls, freezing the lock system on the door and breaking it open.
—
A loud ringing was sent out through the building, what used to be the mission light flashing bright red.
"What the- Who would be stupid enough to- Friday, switch to surveillance cameras." Tony requests from his hiding place in the computer center of the compound.
"Unable to comply. Cameras inoperative, boss." Friday's robotic voice replies.
"Motion sensors." Tony requests, watching the multiple screens in front of him.
"Intruder moving quickly to secure area. ETA two minutes ten seconds." Friday responds.
Rachael was walking towards where she knew her father would be, Tony flew into her in the IronMan suit and pushing her threw the windows behind her. She yelped as they were plummeting to the ground below.
"Rachael?! What are you-" Tony yells, his voice coming out slightly cold and robotic due to the suit. "Computer route all power to repulser gloves."
Tony threw one of his hands out shooting them back up towards the compound, throwing her on the balcony while he landed a few feet away. "Have you completely lost your mind? That little stunt could have gotten both of us killed."
"Wanted to make sure you didn't fly off before we got to talk." Rachael says angrily, her powers built up in one hand while the other moved in front of her lower abdomen for protection.
"The only thing I'm going to do is put you under arrest. You turned on me Rachael. Not just me, the government. There are penalties for that. Now you have to pay them. You were a fool to come back, Rachael." Tony says taking a few steps closer lifting his repulser glove at her.
"Yeah? So who's the bigger fool? Me or the guy who's pointing a repulser glove at me that's still over heated from breaking our fall to work?" Rachael scoffs.
"You willing to bet your life on that, sweetheart?" Tony says taking another step closer.
"Yeah." Rachael presses sending a blast of ice at him, knocking him back slightly.
"Uni-beam max power." Tony groans, as the suit core sent out the hardest beam it has had in a while, knocking her backwards and starting to burn her skin. Rachael mustered up enough power to make a thin barrier with her powers, trying to build up a blast strong enough to stop him. She wouldn't last much longer like this.
"Daddy-It...Ow-" Rachael whimpers pushing her arms out quickly and releasing everything she had in her to stop him, she ends her retaliation as soon as his beam stops. She falls to her knees trying not to pass out, now was not the time. "Oh...wow..."
There was snow covering the balcony and the side of the compound, Tony was frozen in a chunk of ice, to the outside wall. It stopping just below his mask.
"This isn't going to work, Rachael." Tony grunts trying to break free but the chest plates circuits were frozen.
"...Shut up." Rachael says breathing heavily, getting up shakily walking over to him.
"If it's not me. It'll be someone else. You can't run. You can't hide. You-" Tony says.
"I said shut up!" Rachael yells punching the face plate, weakly.
"That was pathetic, but...cute." Tony says annoyed.
"Take it off. Let me see your face!" Rachael shouts pulling on it. It shot off at her making Rachael take a step back to get away fast enough.
"Happy now?" Tony spits.
"Listen to me." Rachael says.
"Because in about two seconds, I-" Tony grumbles.
"Listen to me!" Rachael shouts at him. "May is dying!"
"She's-" Tony starts, his expression softening.
"She's dying and it's your fault!" Rachael screams, turning away from him angrily. "Peter trusted you! I have no fucking clue why, but he did! You were like a second father to him! He trusted you when you said he had to reveal his identity! Told him that it was the only way! He kept it a secret to protect me and May, but you convinced him that we'd be safe! You told him-...And now-...now she's lying in a hospital bed...dying...and they are going to stick her in some damn charity ward because we can't afford it! Because we're on the run! Because of you! And she's going to die because she got hurt when they came after Peter and found us..." She was doing her best not to break down completely.
"I...I'm sorry, sweetheart, I didn't know..." Tony sighs watching sadly as she starts falling apart.
"I don't want your pity, I don't want your apology...I want you to do something about it!" Rachael snaps her worries starting to spiral out of control.
"You're a fugitive from the law, Rachael, I can't help you." Tony sighs.
"Not me...her. Dad...whatever your problem is with me. May is innocent. And your going to help me, because it me, because it's Peter, because it's May! I need to make sure she has the best care money can buy, while we try to find someone who can save her. Because Peter is not going to let her die, and neither am I. But it's...it's going to take time. So we need to buy that time. And your going to help us buy her that time, or-" Rachael says starting to cry.
"Or what? You don't have any options you're in no positions to make threats, Rachael. Unlike a lot of the others still fighting registration, the government knows who Peter is. So you don't have any options, and you could pretty much forget about any promises you got out of me by threats." Tony says.
"The or wasn't a threat, dad. The or was, or else May is going to die in some charity ward, somewhere. Is that really what you want, dad? Is it?" Rachael sighs.
"No. But there is nothing I can do without completely compromising my position. I'm sorry. Any direct help I gave you would be tracked back to me. I could be held liable for aiding a abetting a known criminal. It would undermine everything I've been trying to build since the war. The stakes are bigger than you, or me...or even May-I...I'm sorry, Rachael" Tony says charging his repulsers to take off and break out of the ice covering him. "I'll let you walk away this time out of respect of May, so that you and Peter can be there for her at the end. But don't come back. Because next time, I'm taking you two in May or no May."
Tony cracked the ice before taking off into the sky.
"Dad...Wait! Dad!" Rachael screams in tears, sinking to the ground, her bangs falling in her face. "Daddy! Daddy please...please..."
