Staying "In"
Reunited pt. 1
"Come on, Ruby it'll be fun. We can take picture and write stuff about science." Peter snickers as they both walk up to the Oscorp building.
Rublyn rolled her eyes, at him. She was one of the lead reporters for the Daily Bugle. Not that she wanted to be here of course, no. J.J.J just had to assign her to work with Peter for his stupid science column.
"IDs out. Please. All IDs out." The security guard at the front door spoke, as they walked in.
"How did we even get on the list for this event anyhow?" Rublyn asks. "Did your high tech boyfriend friend sneak us on the list again?"
"No, we broke up." Peter says.
"Aw, that sucks. I'm sorry." Rublyn sighs. "He figured out you were broke, huh?"
"Haha very funny, but no. That wasn't it." Peter sighs. "Anyway...the Osborns are old friends from high school."
"Dude, do you know everyone?" Rublyn chuckles.
"Peter Benjamin Parker! I knew that was you." Rachael shouts trying to be friendly though she wasn't sure how he'd react to seeing her after all these years.
"That's Rachael Stark! Daughter of IronMan! How do you know her?" Rublyn whisper yells.
"We used to date." Peter shrugs.
"Oh my God, who are you!" Rublyn huffs jealously, punching his arm.
"Hey, kid. You looking at this tech for the X-M?" Peter asks casually, turning his attention back to the brunette.
"Sorry, trade secret. I assume you're covering it for the Bugle?" Rachael says removing her sunglasses. "You still taking pictures for J. J. Jackass?"
"Yeah, it pays well." Peter shrugs.
"No it doesn't, you live in an apartment with Johnny. If it paid well you would get a better roommate." Rachael smiles.
"You know about that?" Peter asks, running his hand over the back of his neck.
"That you live with Johnny? He's my best friend, be kinda weird if I didn't." Rachael shrugs.
"Ugh, get a room you two." Harry chuckles walking over to them before his presentation starts.
"Haha...yeah." Rachael chuckles awkwardly playing with the hem of her jacket sleeve. Peter coughed uncomfortably, wanting to ease the tension.
"Okay wow, tough crowd..." Harry mutters playing with the collar of his shirt. "Anyway, this is a big day for Liz and Oscorp in general, so thanks for coming."
"Liz? Liz Allan?" Rachael asks exchanging glances with Peter.
"Yeah, I caught up with her again after high school and we hit it off, ended up getting hitched. Now she's partially in charge of my dad's company. Kinda like how your sister is with your dad's." Harry explains.
"That's great Har, I'm so glad you're happy." Rachael smiles sadly, he deserved to be happy. After everything his dad has done to him in his life time he deserved this.
"Yeah, so am I. So did you two ever..." Harry asks pointing between them.
"What! No, no!" Peter says quickly shaking his hands in response.
"No, never." Rachael shakes her head.
"Well never say never." Harry chuckles.
"Anyways...this must be a-" Rachael says.
—
"-very big day for Oscorp and me personally. What we're about to show you is a revolutionary new way of providing energy. It's catalyst is tritium- An incredibly rare radioactive isotope that is highly dangerous...even explosive, but we what to turn that threat into a promise." Liz states grandly pointing at the device behind her. Peter's spider senses started to go off, but it would take longer to figure out why, than to just let what ever was going to happen, happen and play it from there.
A guard walked behind Liz, over to the device. That was it. It had to be that. But unfortunately he was wrong it was much, much worse than that. Pete was looking around a bit frantically which Rachael quickly picked up on out of habit, looking around as well. The Goblin came into view to attack his own building and his own daughter-in-laws' big day.
"Do you hear that?" Rublyn asks looking around to find the source of maniacal laughter, Norman Osborn.
"All these loyal subjects here to pay tribute to their heir, their Goblin King. You came for a demonstration, so if any of you get in the way, you'll get a demonstration of what a pumpkin bomb does at close range!" Norman cackled floating down the ground level on his glide.
"I'll go get security." Harry stutters he really hates his father, but kept on living under his shadow in fear of making his own path.
"And I-I'll..." Peter mumbles trying to come up with a excuse to disappear so that he could change into his suit.
"I've got this." Rachael says, pulling out her phone. "Alright, I'm Rachael fucking Stark and my father was IronMan! Meaning I have the most powerful weapons in the world at my finger tips and I just called the most powerful satellite army here so if you like eating solid food, you should run for it, now!"
"Good one, kid." Peter says under his breath as he disappears behind a nearby building.
"Good job, Stark." Liz says feeling like she should applaud even though Norman didn't seem fazed by her in the slightest.
"Yeah... except that this is just my phone and I haven't ever had access to my father's tech let alone even have any in four years. Run." Rachael says nervously, starting to attempt to get everyone out of the area.
Peter appeared on the roof of the building in full costume swinging down to take a crack at the insane, ill man in a green and purple metal suit.
"I'm going to squash you like a bug." Norman growls as they tussle.
"Wow, originally really. But you really need to step up your banter game Gobby. Watch how a pro does it." Peter says in all seriousness, landing on the side of the building. "Note how I use my sticky-feet to anchor myself. Then say "check out my feet of strength!"."
Norman laughed at him. "Silly little spider always did have a way with words. It's a surprise you're superior female spider hasn't eaten you yet. How was that? Is my banter game getting better?"
"Hahaha. We'll work on it." Peter says sarcastically as they both kick each other's asses in a full on fight. Before Peter grabbed him by his glider and launched him thought the air and off into the distance somewhere.
Everyone came out of the hiding spot Rachael had forced them into as a safety precaution. "The demonstrations over. Everyone just...go home." Liz sighs, rubbing the back of her head tiredly. This was the shit she put up with one a daily basis and was clearly not happy about it.
"I'd love to, but if Parker doesn't crawl out from whatever rock he's hiding under, we'll miss the train." Rublyn sighs, impatiently.
Peter who was standing on top of the building swore to himself 'how in the fuck am I going to explain this one?'.
"I asked Pete to stick around so we could catch up. You go ahead, I'll give him a ride." Rachael says covering for him just like in the old days, grabbing his clothes he left behind and hiding them behind her back.
"Oh, okay. Thanks." Rublyn nods.
"And Rachael gets my back perfectly. Just like old times. She really is one impressive theatre nerd. More impressive than I think I've ever appreciated." Peter says in a soliloquy. "Now, I should probably catch up to Norman before he gets to far."
—
Knock! Knock!
Peter answers his door to find Rachael standing in his doorway holding his abandoned clothes from earlier that day.
"Face it spider, you just-" Peter speaks first in a playful and mocking manner.
"Drew the short straw?" Rachael asks with a giggle.
"Ouch..." Peter says with overdramatic fake hurt grabbing his heart like he'd been shot. "Actually I think that means you win, I mean you are here to bring me my pants."
"And your shirt, shoes, wallet, keys-..." Rachael lists with a smiles, stepping inside his and Johnny's apartment slightly.
"Thanks for picking those up by the way." Peter interjects.
"You know, I think I did it out of reflex. Old habits die hard, I guess." Rachael says.
"Sorry. I guess I'll just take my stuff off of you so that you can vamoose. Last thing I want is to drag you down that rabbit hole again." Peter chuckles sadly.
"Hey, I said old habits. Not bad ones. Have to admit...I've kinda missed this." Rachael smirks in that little seductive way she does to reel in her prey.
"Me too. All of it." Peter says raising an eyebrow, seeming to really like the direction this was heading.
"So? What did we used to do next?" Rachael asks.
"Dinner? My treat.-" Peter starts to offer.
"We both know you can't afford that." Rachael giggles.
"We could go out or-" Peter continues.
Rachael shut and locked the front door. "Stay in?"
"In's nice. I like "in"." Peter says weakly followed, by the sound of moans and a loud slam of bodies against the front door.
