Helping Out

"Should I question the reason my cellphone stopped working as soon as we approached this fence?" Rachael asks looking through the darkness at the red masked man standing a few feet away from her.

"No, this place is jammed. It doesn't exist electronically, from space all you see is a shitty ass roof with more than a few shingles missing." He says putting his hands on top of the thick wooden panel fence, pulling himself up, signaling for her to do the same.

"You have to much hope in my abilities, I can't do that..." Rachael says looking up at him sitting on top of the fence that was a few feet taller than her, she could barely reach the top if she tried. It want that she was short it was just that this fence was ridiculously high.

"Alright, come on noodle arms. I've got someone I want you to meet." Wade says reaching his hands down for her which she took gladly, walking up the wall ungraciously while he pulled her up with ease. She finally managed to make it to the top and they both swung over to the other side, hopping down into the small suburban backyard.

"Where are we? Please don't tell me it's an interdenominational demon strip club, I don't want to go through one of those again. I'm still trying to burn those images out of my mind." Rachael says looking around observing a child's swing set in the yard, along with a small kitchen play set.

"You have a very dirty mind, there." Wade says starting to creep towards the small house.

"Learned from the best I suppose." Rachael chuckles following him skeptically.

A small figure opened the back door of the house pointing a flashlight that was almost as big as they were at them.

"There's my girl, right on time just like always." Wade smiles continuing to walk towards it.

The small figure who turned out to be a little girl around the age of eight or nine ran out towards him.

"Daddy!" The little girl exclaimed throwing her arms around him as he knelt down to her height.

"Excuse me?" Rachael says confused and shocked placing a hand on her chest.

"Hey, Ellie-Belly." Wade smiled warmly under his mask as he hugged her. "How was your week?"

"I got a C on my math test and I didn't stab my teacher even though I really wanted to because math is stupid and hard. I got an A on my art project though it was a picture of you and me and I really want a pair of those shoes that light up when you jump, Julie just got a pair and I've been really tempted to steal them from her but I haven't yet. Can I get a pair?" The girl, Ellie, says all in one breath not stopping for a moment to breath until she was finished talking.

"Heh heh. Sure, kiddo. Anything you want." Wade chuckles. "I brought someone with me I want you to meet."

"Wade, I-" Rachael starts.

"This is Rachael Stark, better known as Frostbite or whatever she's going by as an X-Men now." Wade says.

"Hi, Ellie it's a pleasure to meet you." Rachael smiles down at her.

"You know who I am, silly. Don't you?" Ellie asks shining her flash light up at her, releasing Wade from their hug. "I know who you are. Daddy talks about you all the time. I bet he tells you lots about me. Especially since you two are so close."

"Close? Huh?" Rachael whispers under her breath before speaking up. "Oh, yeah he tells me lots about you. You're his pride and joy."

She glanced over at Wade curiously, he just chuckled nervously.

"Daddy, talks about you all the time. He says you're the best, well, second best, well third best. Captain America is first because, Daddy, says he'd love to shove his-" Ellie says bouncing with energy, Wade slapping his hand over her mouth before she could finish her sentence.

"Haha, kids...can't you just love 'em to death?" Wade chuckles nervously. "On second thought this was a bad idea...why don't we get you inside and I'll be in as soon as I can to help you tackle that homework, okay?"

He turns her around and pushes her towards the house.

"Aw...She isn't staying? But I wanted to talk to her about so many things." Ellie whines.

"We'll see." Wade says. "But don't count on it."

Ellie walked back inside sadly closing the door behind her.

"I knew you didn't tell me everything, but how could you keep your daughter from me?" Rachael asks slightly offended.

Wade shrugged. "You were only focused on getting answers about your mom, for the longest time. It was only about a month ago that we actually started to get to know each other personally, and I don't tell anyone about her, for her safety."

"It's okay. I get it, but you clearly didn't mind telling her about me." Rachael smirks crossing her arms.

"Yeah...sorry about that. I can only tell her certain things about my day job, you're one of the only not-super-life-scaring-for-a-child-things in my life." Wade says. "I only tell her the PG things or I make stuff up."

Rachael nods. "That's probably for the best, I'm not a sure anyone should tell a child how you shot and decapitated over forty people today."

"Yeah...let's not mention that, Okay?" Wade says rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "Well, you should probably get going I'm sure you're busy...probably got a date with the Southern Belle or Frosty the Man Whore."

"Are you trying to get rid of me?" Rachael smirks crossing her arms.

"No, why would you ever-" Wade says watching her glare at him which met tell the whole truth and but the truth. He had seen that look so many times but not from her. "Yeah, a little..."

"Afraid I'll learn something I shouldn't?" Rachael asks.

"No, I just don't think you want to spend your Thursday night with a eight year old girl." Wade says.

"Don't think, nothing good ever comes from it." Rachael says patting his shoulder and walking towards the house.

He ran after her. "I really don't think you want to-"

"You have a daughter that I've never met this is the only thing on my to-do list tonight." Rachael laughs going inside, looking around the small house, Wade walked in behind her.

Ellie came running down the hallway smiling widely. "Yay! You stayed!" She grabbed Rachael's hand and started pulling her away towards somewhere.

After a few hours Ellie calmed down from her excitement and they were all sitting on her bed. Ellie was positioned in Rachael's lap as she leaned against the headboard , she had homework spread across the bed as Rachael braided her hair, helping her out when she needed it.

Wade was kinda just watching from the corner with a small smile. This had always been what he wanted and he could imagine for even just a few minutes that his life was normal, that maybe everything that had happened with Lily didn't happen, that Rachael was really his and they were all a small happy family. But when reality sets back in the cold hard truth that they had split up long before Rachael was born and it was all because he let Lily take that mission, that Ellie was just a happy accident, that Lily was dead and had fallen for someone else, that he was married now and shouldn't be pining for lost love, but for now, he was content.

"I love her." Rachael mouthed towards him with a smile before turning her attention back to Ellie's next math problem.

She was starting to realizing that Ellie made her think of her sisters, her real family. How long it had been since she's seen them, baby Maria probably doesn't even remember her it's been so long. For now though she would focus her this, the family she had made for herself out in the real world. For now she was content. They were all content.
