Grains & Milk

(Oh my God she actually posted?! It's been like a year!)

"Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! No work today! It's Saturday!" Bobby chanted, while pouring himself a bowl of cereal on the counter in the X-Mansion.

"It's times like this when I'm really glad I never let our friends with benefits thing go anywhere further than that." Rachael laughs at him, as she spoons a bite of Golden Grahams into her mouth.

"Hey! I feel offended by that." Johnny scoffs through a mouthful of off-brand Lucky Charms, bits of marshmallow flying all over the counter.

"Charmin'." Rouge grimaces at him, wiping his filth off the counter with a paper towel.

"Well, get a better boyfriend and I won't have to offend you!" Rachael laughs, exchanging a playfully glaring with him.

Bobby sat down beside Johnny with an exaggerated sigh, and swiped the tv remote from the center of the counter, flipping through the channels. "A Hannah Montana rerun? Fuck me up!"

There was a collective giggle as Bobby put on a Disney owned news channel that regularly played old 2000's reruns on Saturday and Sunday mornings. As they got about ten minutes into the episode a breaking news alert flashed across the screen which was quite normal in this day and age, so no one seemed overly concerned by it, until the actual event was being displayed.

"We're bringing to you the latest update on the fight between Spider-Man and The Green Goblin also known as Norman Osborn who has broken out of a SHIELD maximum security facility for the third time in the past two years. We now take you to an overview of the fight from one of our helicopters."

Johnny sat completely still his eyes glued to the tv screen his cereal completely abandoned not even worried about how soggy it might be getting, the concern of his best friend and roommate dying seemed much more important.

"We've seen before in previous fights between the two that Green Goblin has been one of the only heroes to ever beat Spider-Man before and it appears he may be doing it again."

Rachael's spoon sat in between her teeth nervously chewing on it, everything in the world disappeared from her mind as the broadcast continued.

"Should we...?" Johnny asks not able to finish his sentence as the camera zooms in on Spider-Man getting slammed into the side of a building with a pumpkin bomb.

"We're too far away, by the time we got there it'd be over." Bobby responds being the only one of sane mind there.

Rogue observed Rachael seeming frightened and completely engrossed in what was happening on screen at the moment, distancing herself from the situation, as her insecurities took over her mind. She stepped back and walked out of the kitchen, leaning against one of the living room walls.

"What's wrong with you kid?" Logan asks from the couch, where he was nursing a beer in complete silence. "What happened to the continuous cackling in there?"

"The new's playin' a Spida-Man fight." Rogue sighs, with a shrug.

"And you're upset about it?" He asks, looking over at her.

"No, Ah- Ah'm... upset because that's not me." Rogue says, fiddling with her gloves.

"You're upset that you're not in a fight?" Logan asks raising an eyebrow.

"No, Ah... Every time something like this happens Ah realize Ah'll never be good enough for her." Rogue sighs, her voice breaking slightly.

"Oh, so this is about Rachael." Logan nods in understanding.

"It sounds petty Ah know. But she's my girlfriend she should be in love with me, not just in love with the idea of me. She shouldn't be pinin' for someone else. And maybe... maybe Ah'm crazy, maybe she really does love me and she's just such a good person that she cares about everyone, even the people that have left her behind, but Ah can't compete with.. with a... with a fantasy. Ah can't compete with someone who even when he does the worst thing possible to her she can't help but forgive him. Ah can't compete with someone who's... perfect for her. Too many times in these last ten months we've been dating have Ah had to come across the dilemma of not bein' enough, and not bein' what she wants. Ah knew this was never going to last, but Ah always had hope. It's been four years since what happened you think she'd have moved on by now, but Ah think everyone realize before me that, that's not possible. She's leaving here, when shes done with school in a few weeks and Ah think everyone, but me knew exactly who she was gonna run back to when the time came. Ah've just been blinded by her optimism." Rogue say, tears welling up in her eyes, her southern accent getting thicker as her emotions start to pour out.

"Kid, I'm telling you this now, because someone has to. But you do the same thing with Cajun." Logan says, taking a sip of his beer.

"What? Ah don't- No, Remy and Ah- It didn't work." Rogue says, shaking her head.

"Neither did they." Logan responds.

Rogue sighs, taking a deep breath. "What Gambit and Ah had. It's not the same..."

"Isn't it? You were both in a long lasting, but rocky relationship that ended abruptly with sacrifice, only to still miss them. Why? God knows, but you do." Logan says. "Sounds the same to me."

"Ah... don't want to say you're right, but-" Rogue sighs.

"I'm right." Logan confirms, taking another swing of his beer.

"Thank you." Rogue says.

"For what?" Logan asks, looking at her confused.

"For listening to my hysteria." Rogue smiles a bit forced.

"...You're welcome." Logan says, uncomfortably. "Kid? Uh, don't be so hard on yourself, okay?"

Rogue nods before heading back into the kitchen, finding her bowl of Cocoa Puffs completely soggy and that the news broadcast was over. "What happened?"

"He was successful and fled. Which means he survived." Rachael sighs, playing with the remaining cereal in her bowl, seemingly uninterested. "This time..."

Rogue sighed putting on a painful smile, before taking her bowl to the sink. "At least he's okay. For Johnny's sake."

"Hey!" Johnny yells.

"Sorry, I just think we can all agree your monster tears are not what we want to deal with on our day off." Rogue says, earning laughter from everyone else.
