Bruises

"Rach, you're wanted at the office." Mr. Harrington says holding a white slip out for her.

Rachael glanced around at her little group of friends before getting up from her seat and grabbing the slip. She walks down to the office nervously her anxiety taking over, she knew she hadn't done anything bad lately but she was still shaken up. What could this possibly be about? She pushed the glass office door open stepping inside standing there awkwardly until someone acknowledged her.

"Ah, Rachael Stark. Come with me, sweetheart." Her guidance counselor says waving her behind the main desk and off to the main principal's office in the back.

They lead her into the room, guiding her into a chair in front of the principal's desk, the principal, vice principal, her guidance counselor and her social worker were standing next to or behind the desk. "Ms. Stark, you're not in trouble if that's what you're thinking. So relax a bit." The head principal says.

Rachael leans back in the armchair crisscrossing her legs. "O-okay..."

"We brought you here, because a student informed us about severe bruises on your abdomen. The student was concerned for your safety and home life." The vice principal explains.

The guidance counselor set a clipboard with papers in front of the principal. "So, it says in your file that you live with your father and his coworkers?"

Rachael nods for lack of input.

"Have any of them or your father ever, touched you in anyway that might be deemed inappropriate or illegal?" Her social worker piped up.

"No. God no!" Rachael says getting more nervous by there question. Yes, would be the actual answer but she could say that. 'Yeah I get beat up everyday during training because I'm not good enough at being an illegal vigilante.'

"Then what are those bruises from? Or are you denying the accusations?" The guidance counselor asks concerned.

"I'm just reckless, if I have bruises it's probably just from me bumping into my kitchen counter or something." Rachael lies, playing with the hem of her glove.

"Okay, we believe you, but we are going to have this lovely social worker here come and check out your housing and the environment you live in just to be safe." The principal says.

"Believed me, my ass..." Rachael thought with a scoff in her mind. The bell rang outside the office for the period to end and the next period to begin. "Can I Be dismissed, its my lunch period and if I miss it I won't be able to eat."

"Yes, Ms. Stark. You are dismissed." The principal sighs.

Rachael bolted from her seat, she b-lined out of the office and down to the cafeteria. She walked over to her table quickly slamming her hands down on the table.

"Hey, Babe-" Peter says glancing up at her the others drawing their attention to her as well.

"Everyone cut the bullshit. Who told!" Rachael shouts glancing around at everyone, obviously a mess on the inside.

"Told What?" Mary Jane asks confused though one of the group members seemed to get pretty nervous upon her accusation.

"Someone told the principal that I get abused!" Rachael shouts.

"Rachael, calm down they obviously just wanted what was best for you." Harry says.

"Best for me? Well what about MJ her father is actually abusive, but no one ever says a damn thing about that!" Rachael shouts, slamming her hands off the table again. "I might not be able to live with my dad anymore because of whatever bitch decided to spill about something they don't understand!"

"Something I don't understand!" Harry says getting up and quickly walking around the table, pulling up the hem of her shirt just enough to show a large black and blue mark the size of a fist. "This is physical abuse, no other way of looking at it! You had these back when we were dating, that was almost eleven months ago and they never stopped, they go away and then you get more, this is not healthy!"

Rachael ripped the hem of her shirt back down. "You think you know what's best for me, but you don't! I know you'd feel like shit of social services showed up at your house with the possibility of taking you away from your dad, especially since he's a rapist!"

"Don't says that! It's not true!" Harry snaps.

"Yes, It is! He did it to Gwen and he did it to m-...I mean she's definitely not the only one!" Rachael yells.

"Well you're dad's not much better since he's an abusive alcoholic!" Harry shouts.

"He's not abusive!" Rachael yells back throwing her hands in the air.

"Oh, so did Peter hit you again? Because you promised-" Harry says angrily.

"That I'd break up with him if he did that again! Yeah, I remember and no it's not Peter! It's not anyone!" Rachael finishes.

"Well it has to be someone, those bruises didn't just appear by themselves!" Harry yells back. Rachael huffs slapping him in the face.

"Stay out of this!" Rachael says finally noticing all of the attention they had drawn to themselves most of the cafeteria watching the explosive show. She stormed out of the cafeteria and went out into the outdoor corridor taking in the cold winter air.

Peter followed her out placing a hand gently on her shoulder, she turned into his embrace and started to cry finally letting the remainder of her emotions go.
