deerflower

name || Deerflower
reasoning || Her name holds no specific meaning, but her mother wanted to give her a name that was unique. One of the elders spoke of wild graceful creatures that would bound through the grass when they were a kittypet, and they'd watch them move like the wind. So, she decided to name her after these creatures in hopes her kits would possess the same grace and beauty the elder spoke of. For her suffix, its easier explained in her backstory.
okay!! deerflower's a beautiful name! her mother's goal was achieved - it is very unique!

gender || female
mhm!

rank || loner (previously a kit and apprentice)
ooh, interesting!

clan || Treeclan. A lush forest territory that is filled with several small ponds and large tall trees. Cats here are typically muscular with strong paws made to grip the bark of the trees when climbing. Prey consists of several bird species, mice and squirrel. You may find some rabbits and frogs who reside by the ponds. While lush and often filled with prey, leaf-fall is considered to be a difficult season due to all the leaves from the trees falling on the floor of the forest. Because of this, cats often step on the crunchy leaves which alert prey of their presence. The clan's camp is situated in the middle of a large ring of trees. The camp dens are roughly shaped with branches and have holes in them patched with leaves. Dried mud keeps the branches in place. For additional warmth, feathers from birds are stuffed in the holes as well. The dens aren't sturdy by any means, but if you were to bump into one, it wouldn't collapse. Along with the territory is Lakeclan, who has the part of the forest where the trees thin out and bodies of water become larger. Their diet consists of squirrels, mice and water dwelling species like fish and frogs. Because both clans have fairly plentiful sources of prey, they don't have many disagreements. Of course there are few, such as cats of the other clan not staying on their side of the territory and such. Aside from Lakeclan there is Grassclan. Their clan is a mix of both Lakeclan and Treeclan. There are fewer trees and some lake/ponds/rivers, but for the most part they have a grass terrain. More rabbits frequent here , aswell as some birds and fish. Gatherings are held in a large field of flowers ( many of which are trampled due to cats ). Leaders stand on the "Great Oak Log' - which is really just a tree that fell on its side, its many branches keeping it still in the ground - when addressing the cats present.
very neat & descriptive! i can see that it's very well thought-out: i'm certain treeclan's a delightful fanclan!

appearance || Deerflower is a muscular but slender pale gray-brown tabby with darker brown tabby markings. Her coat is short and coarse, save for the white bits which are softer due to grooming. She has amber eyes , white chest fur that extends downwards to her belly fur, one of her forepaws fully white and a white under muzzle as well as some more white markings on her face. Deerflower has a torn ear, as well as several battle wounds. Her tail is long and thin.
she sounds very pretty! i can picture her appearance quite well. the one and only critic i found is that i think most tabbies, other than a white muzzle, don't have much more white marks on their face. but that's the only tiniest detail, and i'm not even sure if i'm correct, haha.

[2/2]

personality || At first, Deerflower's is very hateful. Because of the fact she doesn't love herself she projects that hate onto others and those around her. Thus, making her rude to others as well as snarky and mean. She lashes out to those who try to befriend her, because she doesn't want anyone getting close, and is quite insecure, though hides it by acting out. To those she admired like the leader, deputy, and parents she would try and be her very best, willing to do everything asked of her. This personality turns bossy and she gains a ' im better then everyone ' sort of attitude as her days as a apprentice go on and she begins training in the dark forest, where her insecurity is pushed into the farthest depths of her mind.
ooh, i love the personality change!! but changing from not loving herself to thinking she's better than everyone is huge, as they're practically opposites of each other. although the personality change is good, there would need to be a huge event of some sort to have such, i think. but that's got nothing to do with the personality, just something to keep in mind!

She bullies the younger apprentices, scaring them to go get her new moss for her bedding or get her food. She gets some kinda god complex, believing herself to be better then everyone due to being told so by Redfrost. However, after she nears the end of her apprenticeship and becomes a adult, she begins to realize how awful she was as a cat, and thus begins her journey of growing and loving herself. It's hard, and she has several moments of lashing out, trying to disregard her actions as ' ok ' and being harsh. However, she has a lot of self-reflection and gains a more calmer, less harsh and easier to get along with personality. She maintains her sassy attitude , but learns to tone it down so it isn't hurtful. She also becomes more honest and open with her feelings, where as when she was a apprentice she would push them away. Now she's more in tune with them and learns that it's ok to not feel happy with who you are, because that means she's growing. She's also more open minded ( at least more then when she was a apprentice ) and knows that things don't have to be a certain way. Like a cat who was a major jerk can still be nice sometimes, and that people change. Because of this, she's also learned to give others the benefit of the doubt.
pretty awesome personality! i love the changes & developments! i honestly don't have much critics here, as it's all pretty balanced!

backstory || Deerkit was the eldest and firstborn of a her litter. Next up was Fawnkit, where they were given matching names. Because Fawnkit was younger, their parents attention shifted slightly to her. Playing too roughly resulted in Deerkit getting the one scolded, where she got upset and begin to believe that her parents liked Fawnkit more then her. Thus began her ignoring Fawnkit's attempts to get her to play, and she even snapped at her, which resulted in more scolding from her parents. The kits began to avoid her, calling her mean and anything names. So she was fairly lonely, but claimed that she didn't need friends and said ' if they don't like me, I don't like them ! '

During her apprenticeship, she was mentored by Honeypool, a honey colored tabby she cat. Honeypool was fairly shy, and Deerpaw's snappy attitude didn't always pair well. Deerpaw has a habit to question Honeypool's commands and complain a lot. She didn't think she deserves her as a mentor, which started her ' I'm better then everyone ' attitude.
it's pretty good so far! however, i do have a little suggestion. as stated in the personality, deerpaw didn't love herself at first. personally, i don't think that having a mentor she didn't like would be able to change her entire attitude to an 'i'm better than everyone' one. perhaps add an event of some sort here? maybe she saved a cat and with every cat congratulating her, she develops such personality? something like that!

One day she was visited by Redfrost, who soon became her dark forest mentor and would support her selfish nature, encouraging it. As time grew on, Deerpaw was taught to hate her clanmates, especially Fawnpaw. While Deerpaw didn't have friends in camp, Fawnpaw had several and Redfrost made sure she knew that everyone liked Fawnpaw more then her. Deerpaw fell into his trap ,and this was where she'd start to bully younger apprentices and disregard Fawnpaw. Of course, this didn't go unnoticed by other cats, and she was punished several times, her warriors ceremony threatened to get held back as well. One day, at about ten or so moons, she was sent on a hunting patrol, one of the cats going was Fawnpaw. Splitting up, Fawnpaw followed after Deerpaw, hoping to reconnect with her. Deerpaw didn't like that ,and a quiet , ' why do you hate me?' From her sister escalated to a enraged Deerpaw attacking Fawnpaw. Because of her training in the dark forest, she overpowered the other and almost killed her, had one of the warriors on patrol knocked her off. Realizing what she did, Deerpaw ran away, the warrior too concerned with the bleeding Fawnpaw to chase her. This was the start of the turning point for Deerpaw, where she starts to realize what she had done, and cuts ties with Redfrost via dream. Of course, he isn't happy about that and tried to convince her, but she wakes up before anything happens. Wandering for awhile and too scared to go home and face the music, she ends up meeting Rune. At first ,she goes to chase her away, but realizes that she is no longer on Treeclan territory. After a small talk, Rune feeds the hungry and tired apprentice and lets her travel with her.

At first everything is fine, but Rune grows annoyed with Deerpaws attitude rather quickly, telling her what it is and be in brutally honest ,even if it hurts Deerpaws feelings. Storming off, Deerpaw stays up that night ,going over her actions in the clan and realizing that Rune is completely right.
i like this turning point! nonetheless, i do have some suggestions! so, deerpaw cut off ties with redfrost, which is amazing and all, but she still continues to act with the same 'i'm better than everyone' attitude? of course, she wouldn't be able to change so quickly, but it just sort of leads me to why she cut off ties with redfrost, as she doesn't seem to know that her attitude's bad until rune informs her. did she cut ties with redfrost because she was mad at him for teaching her the fighting moves? i assumed at first that it was because she realized, basically, that he was feeding her ego and such, kind of manipulating her, but again, she doesn't really seem to understand her attitude's wrong until rune tells her. perhaps i'm just understanding this wrong, but just something to keep in mind!

She returns in the morning to apologize and Rune accepts it, promising to let her know if she acts out again. Of course, Deerpaw doesn't instantly change for the better or anything. It's more of a slow process that takes time(see personality where I mention her lashing out and trying to disregard her actions as ok). Regardless; this creates a bond between the two, and Rune tells Deerpaw of her travels, as Deerpaw tells her about clan life. She notes that she would've gotten her warrior name by now, and Rune - despite knowing nothing about being in a clan - suggests the name Deerflower. When asked why, she says that flowers take a long time to grow and become beautiful from a tiny seed. She looks out that Deerpaw has done a lot of growing as well, and the name suits her. So from them on, her name changes to Deerflower. I haven't worked out what happens to her afterwards, so it's kinda left vauge.
i quite like this!! i think what i like most about deerflower's backstory is her personality development! it's pretty amazing overall, just some little bits to touch up (in my opinion).

[1/2]

family || Amberberry: her mother. A short furred calico colored she cat with a thin tail and pale yellow-green eyes. All her paws are completely white, save for her left foreleg which is still colored with the calico pattern of ginger, browns and black. She has several scars from fighting, though none are really noticeable or stand out too much. Named Amber for the yellow-orange patches of fur on her pelt and berry for her sweetness, she cared about and loved both her kits dearly. However Deerflower held a grudge against her because she believed her mother liked her sister more due to the fact that Amberberry had a habit of babying Fawnpaw. This wasn't the case, but it caused Deerflower to be rather moody around her. It made for a few heated arguments between the two, especially when Amberberry would repremiand Deerpaw for her behavior and she'd retort with remarks like, ' why do you care?' and ' you're just trying to look good, you don't actually care about me or what I do' or ' leave me alone, I'm not bothering you are I?' While Amberberry still cared about Deerpaw, it caused her to grow fustrated with the she cat not listening to what she said, so they grew apart. Which was different from when she was a kit. As a kit she always wanted to impress her mom by doing ' warrior stuff ' like hunting moss balls and beating the other kits in fights. However she'd get too competitve and end up getting somekit hurt by playing too rough. In turn, Amberberry started to baby Fawnpaw more, who was often the one getting hurt since Deerpaw thought she needed to prove that she was the better daughter. Looking back on it, Deerflower wishes that she had been a better daughter to her mom, and maybe expressed herself honestly as oppsed to getting angry when the other confronted her. In terms of personality Amberberry is nice. Or at least she tries to be. She always tries to give cats the benefit of the doubt, but her temper sometimes gets the best of her. While she won't start raging over something, she gets annoyed easily and that clouds her decisions and things she says and does. She does come to regret them later, but is the sort who finds apologizing diffucult to do, even when she steps out of line. Even with that part, she tries her best to not get mad and stay calm. Even with her few angry moments she is a nice cat. She's reliable and if you ask her to do something, she can get it done no problem. So I don't ramble, I'll cut it off here haha
Hawkthorn: her father. A short furred brown tabby tom with mackeral markings. He had a white underbelly and undermuzzle, aswell as spots on his face and back that were also white. He had blue eyes aswell, and a long thin tail, aswell as a ear with a nick in it from battle(other scars, but the nick is the most noticeable). Given the name Hawk as homage to his uncle( on his mothers side) who died from green cough. Thorn for his fierce personality and how he was prickly like a thorn. Her father was fierce and a stickler for the rules. Which didn't pair well with his daughters more rebellious attutide. He wasn't a really absent father or anything, he just felt..disconnected of sorts. He was happy to have kits of course but, he wasn't the sort to start playing with them. He wasn't sure what they liked and was more used to talking to those his age, so there was a small rift between him and his kits. He was as loving as he could be, and though he struggled to be a good father, he tried. Telling them stories about things he thought they might like and always trying to bring their favorite prey back on hunting trips.As a kit Deerflower always admired her father since he seemed so perfect, but when she became a apprentice his strictness was unbearable for her. He'd be the first ( if Amberberry wasn't ) to call her out on her actions. Or ask to speak with her in private to 'have a talk' which usually was scolding. In Hawkthorns mind, doing this enough times would make her be a better cat, but it caused more of a rift between them. The two would butt heads often, ending with Deerpaw storming away angrily and Hawkthorn trying to figure out what he was supposed to do. He was a worker at most, and emotions were a place he lacked. Especially with a child whose full of them. So there were times he's slip up. Like say ' why can't you be like your sister?' or ' How are we even kin?' and hurt her feelings. Though he'd try to make up for it by trying to do things together. Maybe drop her favorite prey at her paws and pad away. It was his way of trying to mend what he had broken, though it sometimes didn't work. Stubborn Deerpaw saw it as pity. Looking back at it, Deerflower misses him. He may have been strict and all, but he was still her father. Maybe he didn't play with her, but he'd tell her stories and let her climb all over him when she was a kit and give her and Fawnpaw badger rides ( piggy back rides: cat edition)
 Fawnpaw: her sister. A slightly shorter then average cinnamon colored tabby she cat with mackeral marking. Similar to her father she has white on her chest, underbelly and patches on her back. She has white markings on her face as well, and blue eyes. Her fur is short and she has a scar on her left side. It starts at her shoulder blade and goes downward at a angle, stopping near her belly. Given to her by Deerpaw when she attacked her. Fawnpaws a bit of a crybaby. The sort that'll run to mommy and daddy at being told something she doesn't like. Which was often, because she's very sensitive. She's the sort that you'll have to sugarcoat things for her, because she can't handle the truth. She's very sweet and kind hearted and believes that if she's nice enough, everyone'll like her. Which is exactly why she always tries to be nice to Deerpaw. However this does settle too well with Deerpaw who thinks she's just doing it to show that she's such a good sibling being nice to her to show other's that she's just so amazing. Because in Deerpaw's mind, ' Fawnpaw always had to be better then her and then make her feel worst by trying to console her. ' ( as quoted from my book.. This happened on the second day of apprenticeship when Deerpaw was the only one out of her friends who hadn't caught a piece of prey and Fawnpaw tried to be comforting and tell her that nearly no one catches prey on their first try ) It's safe to say that Deerpaw held a heavy grudge against her. Fawnpaw was better then her in so many ways. Deerpaw was blinded by jealously and couldn't see what Fawnpaw just wanted to get closer to her. But every attempt was in vain. Deerpaw hated her little sister for taking her parents attention, being a crybaby and always being the preferred sister. Looking back on it as a adult, Deerflower regrets some of the harsh and hurtful things ( which include: ' I wish you hadn't been born!' and ' You're so weak! All you ever do is whine and complain!' ) she said. She wonders if perhaps things could have turnt out differently. She wishes she could give it another go with her. Even if a good chunk of their time shared was with Deerpaw being jealous and hateful, they had their moments of sisterly bonding. Like the time when they were kits and both couldn't sleep because of a scary story they heard from the older apprentices, so they consoled one another.
genetics look pretty good!

[1/1]

likes || She was very competitve; and liked winning and being right. Call her a bad person; but she always felt a tinge of satisfaction when she beat Fawnpaw or did something worthy of praise. Due to her short time in the dark forest; she was fond of battle training; real fights esepcially; because no one told her off for clawing out a clump of fur or leaving a bruise on another cat. Her favorite prey is wren; and she enjoyed running because it felt like her problems didn't exist. She thinks frogs/toads are funny from how high they hop. They aren't really on clan territory, but she's seen them after she started travelling with Rune.
mhm!

dislikes || As one could imagine; loosing. She hates being scolded, talked down to or anything along those lines. Basically, not getting her way. She was incredibly envious and hated not coming out on top. Not a huge fan of hunting either; because she always got impatient and sprung too soon. She hates rainy days; but the mornings after even more; because the wet grass drags against her belly fur and feels gross.
alrighty!

other || Redfrost & Rune because their semi important(mostly Rune) Redfrost:A dark ginger tabby tom with white chest fur that shoots up onto his right shoulder blade. He's tall and muscular and has deep amber eyes with a orange undertone. He also has a white underbelly and some on his muzzle, aswell as a thin tail and short fur. Named Red due his fur coloring and frost due to the white fur that shot up because it was something unique. His personality was as cold as his suffix. He was manipulative and was incredibly toxic. Anything he did wrong was always shifted to the other. However Deerpaw saw him as her friend in the very beginning. On her first visit to the dark forest, Redfrost was there to greet her. He was nice at first and told her things that stroked her ego. He knew all the right things to say. That she'd be stronger if she trained her and everyone would love her and not weak little Fawnpaw. He'd get her intentioally angry at others by talking about how no one liked her, and he fed the fire starting a inferno. However his personality quickly shifted. Once she started to train he was ruthless. Attacked her claws out and would snap at her if she didn't perfect killing strikes and moves in a short period of time. If she complained or doubted coming here, he'd tell her that he had to be hard on her if she wanted be stronger. Then pin the blame on her, asking her if she liked being weak. He roped her into his paws perfectly for several moons, until she eventually cut him off. Though he was anything but a friend, Deerpaw at first thought he was her friend.He convinced her that he was training her to help her, and that all he had to do was listen to her. However in adulthood she realizes just how awful he was to her. If anything, he was a good example of what not to do and say. Rune: A tall brown furred she cat with a white underbelly and undermuzzle, aswell as a white paw on her foreleg. Her tail is long and thin and her fur is short. She has a couple scars littering her pelt aswell. The name Rune was chosen because it sounded mysetious and secretive and at one point she was called it by her twolegs. Rune was a kittypet for the first moons of her life due to her mother being killed by a dog. The owners of the dog saved her before she was killed and given to a friend who named her Rune. It's a fitting name, because she's a rather secretive cat herself. Not much about her is revealed, and she only shares things when she feels like it. She isn't the most trusting cat around. Being a loner she has gotten into many fights and been betrayed so she's a on guard sort of girl who doesn't trust those around her. She keeps her walls high, thus not talking much about herself. However with Deerpaw she isn't. For starters she was bigger then the apprentice and when they first run into eachother, Deerpaw is tired and looks horrified and scared/upset. So Rune takes a step out her comfort zone and goes to comfort the she cat. Offers her some prey and after talking some, she agrees to let the other travel with her. Rune is a patient cat, since she knows nothing ever comes from jumping into something or rushing into things. However her patience is quickly tested with Deerpaw. At first the younger was quiet and deep in thought. Then she started to get mouthy and rude, so Rune gave her the same attitude. Told her that she was acting like a brat, unlikeable and a few other words that weren't too nice or sugar coated. She tells Deerpaw what it is like it is and leaves no subject untouched, no matter how sore the spot. Though a harsh way of doing it, Rune is firm in her beliefs and knows lying would only have her continue the bratty personality Deerpaw had. Because of this, she makes a big impact on Deerpaws personality change.
neat!

deerflower's an amazing oc, and clearly very well thought-out. the one and only bit i'd suggest looking over is her backstory, but that's it. thank you for letting me rate her!
