blackberry

name || Blackberry (Born near a blackberry bush. Their mother also believes that names will embody a cats soul; so her naming Blackberry after a berry was her way of hoping the little kit grew up sweet but able to fight and protect themselves; like the thorns of a blackberry bush.)
ooh, interesting! i quite like that name plus the meaning behind it! it's very pretty!

[1/1]

gender || genderfluid(will be using they/them pronouns)
alrighty!

rank || warrior before death
mhm!

clan || Eagleclan
Named after a fierce bird of prey, Eagleclan cats are known to be as ruthless as a bird when it comes to fighting and protecting their territory. To other clans though, they are thought to be brutes who only ever fight. Eagleclan lives with two other clans; Sageclan (a clan full of cool headed who are usually seen as wise and calm) and Otterclan (a clan full of mostly peace seeking cats who are welcoming, but not pushovers). Cats in Eagleclan are commonly large; with muscular figures and curled claws that make for easily gripping enemies or prey. The territory is on a mostly rocky cliffside, where large birds frequently come. Mice and some other small mammals are eaten; though Eagleclan cats prefer the larger birds; leaping out of hiding to hold down and kill them when the birds swoop down. Because of this, Eagleclan cats hunt in groups of at least four. Their camp is inside a large cave by the cliff; thought here are smaller tunnels used to escape into if a predator were to come.
eagleclan seems very interesting! it reminds me a little bit of the tribe! i'm loving it so far.

Some extra information on Eagleclan: Cats of Eagleclan don't have a two part naming system like the canon clans do. Instead; they are named by their parents; often times by an event that took place or is special to the parents. For example a cat born the day after a flood may be called Wave; or a cat with a white coat may be called Snow. The clan's also don't have mentors, and instead kits are often taught by their parents. If a mother or father dies, their adoptive parent cares for them instead. If a queen has too many cats, kin of the queen will step in to help; or a family friend.
that's interesting! i do have a question, though; would the parents go easy on the kits because they're their kits? or would they go harder? and are there any family feuds, like if two cats don't like each other, would they push their kits harder to try and compete with one another?

Leaders kits will lead after them; and if the leader has no kin; the medicine cat appoints the new leader via vision. In Eagleclan, most of the lifestyle is similar to the canon clans, with elders and queens being fed first. Also a trainee rank is just when a cat is being mentored. Before they can be welcomed as a fully fledged warrior of the clan, either the leader, deputy, or a seasoned warrior has a mock battle with them; and the cat must catch a certain number of prey before sunhigh. Depending on the season, it can be between three to five. Though since Eagleclan cats commonly work together, a group of apprentices usually do this task together. Or the apprentice takes charge of a hunting group with warriors; with someone on standby to assess their teamwork skills and strategy.
very interesting! eagleclan sounds like a lovely fanclan!

 appearance || Blackberry is a mottled gray-brown feline with a large build. Their fur is medium length; with a white underbelly and muzzle. Blackberry's tail is somewhat fluffy; and they also have blue eyes. One of their ears is torn, and they have a few scars as well. Like most Eagleclan cats; Blackberry has a muscular figure; with curved claws and is somewhat tall.
okay! blackberry seems very realistic! however, are they a tabby of some sort? i think that would make the appearance more realistic! other than that, all is good!

personality || Blackberry is an ambitious and stubborn cat, though that's probably just come with the territory of being Eagleclan-blooded. Their drive is what keeps them going, even despite everything that's happened. However the drive isn't exactly a innocent drive; it's more of a revenge seeking one. Regardless, no cat can deny that once Blackberry sets their mind to something, they will go to great lengths to achieve it; which can be both good and bad. Blackberry is commonly quiet and reserved; keeping to themselves and friends. However sometimes their emotions bubble up and burst out; and they end up causing a scene. Blackberry is also quite petty; holding onto emotions and wrong-doings that have happened to them; and they are unable to let things go. Before Chirp died, Blackberry was a different cat. They used to be a lot more open to conversation and small-talk, and somewhat more friendly towards others. But afterwards; the death of Chirp hit them hard. They loved their mother so much; that they grieved for a really long time and seemed to just draw into themselves, secluding themselves from others; which only ended badly.
blackberry's personality is very, very good. i like how there's development between before and after chirp's death. i'm curious, though, was there a big difference between the personality of chirp's death? like i noticed you put 'somewhat more friendly', so i'm wondering if their clanmates noticed their personality change at all? if not, i'd suggest making blackberry just a tad more cheerful before chirp's death, just to show the development more. this part is just a bit of thought, but was blackberry close to their friends? to me, it sounds like they're really only close to chirp, and won't truly "let in" others. but i dunno, that's just what i interpreted from reading the personality!

but both of these "suggestions" didn't have too much to do with the personality; blackberry's personality is very good!

[4/4]

backstory || Blackberry was born early, and outside of camp. Their mother Chirp wanted to take a walk; and ended up kitting. Thankfully Blackberry was born safely; gaining their name from the blackberry bush they were birthed by (and the reason mentioned in the reasoning section). However due to being born early; there were many complications, and they were rather weak and frail. The father -Drizzle- really doubted that his kit would make it past a moon; and as to not grieve; began to distance himself. However Chirp was certain that her kit would make it; and she was right! Blackberry eventually began to get stronger and stronger; surprising many. Though Drizzle was a bit awkward around the kit he didn't expect to survive; and didn't have too much of a bond with his kit. Because Chirp spent so much time with Blackberry; he saw Chirp less and less; and spent more time away under the excuse of hunting and whatnot. To Blackberry however, it wasn't a real issue. Because there weren't really any other kits to play with; they spent most of their time as a kit with Chirp; playing and generally just having fun.
i have a tiny suggestion and question. even though there weren't many kits, did blackberry try interacting with the trainees? perhaps it's different in blackberry's situation, but i find it to be a tad more natural if they at least attempt to talk with the trainees and play; perhaps the trainees could reject them or something, which i think can strengthen chirp and blackberry's bond!

also, maybe blackberry should have just a tiny bit of resentment that drizzle wasn't interacting with her? although they had chirp, i think it's more realistic for kits to at least wonder why fathers weren't spending time with them.

Because of this, Blackberry's bond with their mother was really strong, up until she died when Blackberry was fifteen moons. Because of their more brutish nature, Eagleclan was having a bit of a fight with Otterclan (Eagleclan cats have the territory of a cliff and some of the surrounding area; where it then branches off to Otterclan; and Sageclan is on the other side of a river in Otterclan). Because Eagleclan cats commonly hunted large birds; the birds began to settle in Otterclan territory as opposed to nesting where they usually did. And Eagleclan cats believe that they had a right to the birds since it was their main food source, demanding an expansion of territory which the cats of Otterclan denied. So the leader of Eagleclan - Thorn - threatened the leader of Otterclan - Mudslide - and it caused a lot more border fights and even invasions. In one fight, Thorn led a group of cats into Otterclan territory to attack Otterclan in something of a final battle which Chirp was apart of. Sadly though, Chirp was killed. Blackberry grieved greatly at the loss of the cat closest to them; blaming it on the war which started because of Thorn's threat. Blackberry realized that Thorn was an awful leader; and should no longer be leader. It made them even more angry that Thorn simply resumed planning battles, making Blackberry feel like Thorn didn't care about a warrior's death. Blackberry felt like the only way to avenge Chirp's death to rid Thorn of his leadership, though they knew that there was no way they could do it outright; so they decided to plan it sneakily instead.
ooh, loving the development!

One day while out hunting; Blackberry met Fawn; a warrior of Otterclan. She was pretty, and in true Otterclan fashion; didn't like the war. Blackberry started friendly talk; telling Fawn that they too didn't want the battle and that their mother had been killed in the recent battle. Fawn sympathizes with them and because Blackberry was plenty friendly; Fawn was unsuspecting as to what Blackberry was really thinking. It was really a stroke of luck that Fawn was kin of Mudslide; which Blackberry learned after the two began to meet up more and more. After a moon of late talks and Blackberry being kind; they could tell that Fawn was beginning to like them. One day, Blackberry asked Fawn to meet them to talk; claiming to have something important to tell them. Fawn agreed and a while before they were meant to meet up; Blackberry rushed to camp; telling Thorn that they had seen a Otterclan cat sneaking on their territory. Thorn was obviously angry, and went to confront them. When Fawn saw Thorn; she was frightened and tried to talk things through, though Thorn attacked and injured her; chasing her off the territory. Thorn was seasons older and Fawn was a young warrior so he obviously won. A half a moon later; Mudslide led a surprise invasion, attacking the Eagleclan cats in the middle of the night. It turns out that Fawn had been so badly injured and lost so much blood that by the time she returned to camp; there was nothing more that could be done for her. She ended up dying, and being kin to Mudslide; the leader had been quite angry and upset. When they heard this, Blackberry did admittedly feel some sort of guilt; knowing that they had played a part in Fawn's death.
i'm a little lost in blackberry's plan. so blackberry tried using fawn to get closer to mudslide and get information from her? and then they wanted thorn to confront and chase fawn off the territory? i'm just kind of confused on how that plan lines up and what the goal of the entire thing is; so far, it seems that the goal is avenging chirp's death, aka removing thorn from leadership. but i just don't really see how these actions can lead to that at the moment.

They hadn't ever loved Fawn (aro/ace vibes) but the she cat hadn't ever personally wronged them. In a turn of blame deflection; they reasoned that it was Thorn's fault for giving Fawn such deep wounds that couldn't be healed. After all, what kind of awful leader would do such a thing? Only Thorn, and it furthered their mind that Thorn was a bad leader.
uhhh, same comment as the one before. i'm just confused as to what blackberry had wanted thorn to do when they told thorn that fawn was on eagleclan's territory.

With a score to be settled; Mudslide ended up attacking and killing Thorn; and inwardly; Blackberry rejoiced. Now that Thorn was gone, their mothers death was avenged and they felt free. However, there was still one cat who they were angry with. Drizzle. As mentioned before, Drizzle had began to distance himself from Chirp and Blackberry; and shortly after the death of Chirp, Drizzle became mates with another she cat named Ember; even having kits with her. Blackberry felt like Drizzle was being unfaithful; and it only worsened when they saw Drizzle spending time with his kits; and treating them better then he had with Blackberry.
hmm, again, a little confused. i thought blackberry didn't care that drizzle didn't spend time with them? perhaps it's different after chirp's death, though; however, i already put this at the top, but i'd suggest adding like a little resentment towards drizzle already when blackberry was a kit, so it doesn't seem like they're upset at drizzle all of a sudden.

Blackberry even began to wonder if Drizzle even deserved to live since he had clearly forgotten all about Chirp. After all, didn't Drizzle deserve to pay? How could he just change mates, as though Chirp had been nothing more then an inconvenience? It wasn't fair in their eyes, and Blackberry decided to get back at Drizzle. (Blackberry is around thirty moons now, since some time passes). One day when Drizzle was out hunting; Blackberry cornered him. Blackberry accused Drizzle of being an awful mate to Chirp and father to them; to which Drizzle admitted to never loving Blackberry anyway. He told Blackberry to get over themselves, and that Chirp was dead now; so he could be mates with Ember if he wanted. In a burst of rage, Blackberry attacked Drizzle. Drizzle ended up banging his head hard against a rock and the blow killed them; to which Blackberry shoved their fathers body off a cliff to hide evidence.
i think everything's really well-planned, although i have a tiny point; did drizzle basically loose love for chirp after blackberry was born, since he never loved blackberry? if that's true, i think it might help explain how drizzle moved on so quickly! other than that, everything looks great!

Finally, every wrong had been righted, and Blackberry felt at peace. They watched Ember grieve; alongside her kits (Patch, Spark and Willow). There was a flicker of guilt in Blackberry's conscious, but surely, it couldn't be Blackberry's fault? After all, Drizzle was an unfaithful fox-heart who didn't deserve to just happily live a second life. And Ember was a mate stealing rat; so she deserved to suffer the loss of a mate; like Blackberry suffering the loss of their mother. However, Blackberry didn't fully believe that the kits deserved to have to go through such heartbreak. But in the end, wasn't Blackberry helping? They wouldn't have to live with the sting of a father who was secretly worthless and disappointing after all. A couple more moons passed; and Blackberry got sick from greencough. So they were put in a den near the medicine cat den so they didn't get anyone else sick. Willow stopped by once, bringing Blackberry a piece of prey. Blackberry took just a few bites before feeling sick to their stomach. Quietly, Willow told Blackberry everything. On the day that Blackberry killed Drizzle; Willow had been there.
i thought willow was only a kit when drizzle had died?

She had been heard the two arguing while out hunting herself; and hid where she watched Blackberry kill and then get rid of the body. She had been furious; and had poisoned the prey she had just given them with deathberries; which was why Blackberry was so ill. Blackberry ended up dying due to it; which is where their story ends.
the backstory's pretty amazing! everything's well thought-out and planned. i especially loved the development for blackberry; i liked how they had small flickers of guilt, yet still believed that they were doing the right thing, kind of like loosing their sanity a little after chirp's death.

anyways, i only have a few small points i think could be changed to make the story more flawless!

[1.5/2]

family || Mother // Chirp. A dull gray-brown she cat with a slightly darker colored face and tail. Chirp also has a white muzzle and paw tips; along with blue eyes. Blackberry had always loved Chirp; the cat who was so encouraging and loving. Chirp didn't have the best relationship with her parents; so when Blackberry was born; she tried her best to always be there for her kit. Blackberry can fondly recall playing games with Chirp; learning how to hunt and their mother was never short of praise or loving words. That's why, it was really heart-breaking when Chirp was killed; Blackberry feeling like her death needed to be avenged. Chirp was given her name because the day before she was kitted; her mother had a dream of walking through the territory; listening to the sound of birds chirping. Chirp may have been a touch overprotective because it was her only kit; but Blackberry only saw it as a whole lot of love; and it's not like Chirp did anything out of line like keep them in their nest all day; she'd just hover anxiously in the nursery when Blackberry left to explore.
everything seems good! and i love chirp's personality!

Father // Drizzle. A large mottled gray tom with pale yellow-green eyes. When it came to their relationship, Drizzle wasn't as loving as Chirp was towards Blackberry, sine he never built up much of a bond because he hadn't expected them to survive birth; and so he never stayed around them too long. Though as it goes in the backstory, Drizzle ends up leaving Chirp to be with another cat; so he left Blackberry as well. Though he tries to be kind; though it's sorta awkward when he does. Named Drizzle because there was a light sprinkling when he was born.
hmm, i'm curious, though, didn't drizzle feel happy when blackberry turned out to survive? or was he already just so set on blackberry's death?

Just realized I didn't include personality for their parents but I'll give you a gist: Chirp was like the extroverted one who was usually friendly and sociable; although not gullible. As mentioned before, she didn't have the best relationship with her parents because they pushed a lot of their expectations onto Chirp under the disguise of them just wanting her to be her very best. And it really got to her mental health; though she didn't want to set her problems onto others so pretty much smiled the pain away. Drizzle on the other hand was nearly her opposite. He was quiet, awkward and not super confident in himself. He mostly tended to second guess himself and often overthought. Though he grew a bit more sure of him with Chirp being his supportive friend who eventually became his mate. He also helped her take time for herself and do things she liked; instead of what her parents wanted. He does eventually fall out of love with Chirp because he began to doubt their relationship; and only saw it as her being with him because she felt like he needed to.
hmm, that's interesting! some misunderstanding there, i believe. i'm a little curious, though, did drizzle become more confident in his relationship with ember? if so, how did that change?

He didn't bring it up with her because of her being pregnant; and didn't want to throw more problems at her. However he failed to see that Chirp truly did love him; though when he began avoiding her without explanation; she was hurt. Especially because when she needed his support the most (when she was caring for Blackberry), he wasn't there . Only now am I realizing that this is not a gist of their personality but a very deep dive. But basically mis-communication led to their relationship shattering-
makes sense! communication is super important!

Siblings // none(uncommon but not unheard of for first time mothers to only have one kit)
everything looks good here! genetics definitely match!

likes || Blackberry enjoys doing things right. It's simple but satisfying to be able to get a fighting move right, or catch a piece of prey that they've seen. Blackberry also likes to make goals for themselves, and then meet it. It could be something as simple as catching three pieces of prey before sunhigh; or cleaning out their nest after eating; but doing something in a timely fashion is always nice; and they sometimes like to challenge themselves. They also enjoy listening to stories; or remember the stories that were told to them by their mother.
most of the things look good! however, based off of their personality, i'm getting more of a vibe that they're an impulsive cat rather than one who sets goals. you don't need to change it, though, that's just a thought i had!

[0.5/1]

dislikes // Heat. Blackberry's fur isn't short and while it does protect them from really cold leafbares; the fur really sucks on scorching hot days. Of course their fur does shed, but man do they really envy cats with shorter pelts. They also aren't a fan of getting wet since their fur takes longer to dry. This ones a bit personal, but they really hated seeing fathers interact lovingly with their kits. It made Blackberry kind of jealous, knowing that their own dad had never been like that; and seeing happy families too, because it brought up memories of Chirp that just mixed with grief.
can definitely see that!
