Volunteered or Reaped: Volunteered. She didn't even know the girl she volunteered for, only that she'd been planning to volunteer for most of the year. She didn't think it right for people to be entered into the hunger games (obviously) and decided if anyone had to, it should be her.

Personality: Ruby is a sweetheart. However, she's also incredibly determined in everything she does and she will do almost anything to get what she wants. It sounds selfish, but everything she wants and does is for other people. Despite her selfish attitude of 'I want so I get', she is the most selfless girl her family and friends admit to knowing.
She's often calm and gentle, a silent huntress in the woodland of her district. She enjoys the thrill of the hunt but often 'misses' the kill. And her aim is almost perfect.
However, she can also be a rather fiery soul. If challenged, she doesn't back down, and she will happily argue her point across with anyone.
She'd do anything to protect those she loves and even those she doesn't. Unless they're running the hunger games, because that's just wrong.

Backstory: She grew up in the woodland/forests at the back of District 6 with the rest of the huntresses (who all share the last name 'Fire'). A few years before she was born, their group was joined by the first ever male who was found in those woods with his sister. Apart from Jordan, their family was completely female. Because of Jordan, they started trusting the opposite sex a little more and allowed two or three to join them. Despite the very small group of men, their numbers were largely increasing, so half of them decided they'd move to another district which ended up being the closest, 7. They moved illegally after one of their older members was caught and hurt trying to organise legal transfer.
She moved with her closest sister, Piper, and they quickly became some of the leading hunters providing for the district.

Name: Peter Thomas

Personality: Peter is very much an angry soul. Driven by constant hunger and losing family to illnesses no one could be bothered curing, he hates life and basically everything in it. He's ready for these hunger games. It's a perfect way for him to get his anger out as well as possibly find his own death while he's there and honestly, he's thinking that'll probably be not so bad. Perhaps a good thing.
He's not suicidal but his life is awful and death is as good an escape as any when it's the only definite option you've got.
He was a sociable child but lost all his friends rather quickly after his mother died and his grief-led-anger consumed him.

Backstory: Born into one of the poorest families of all, he was forced to steal food, despite the low prices and generous trade offers. He and his brother would steal the food for the family, his three sisters found jobs to help out in a safer way. Safer, maybe, but less efficient.
When he was just nine, his mother a disease that only the capitol has a cure for. Knowing this, no district doctor would go near her and she died no less than a month later, with her eldest daughter who had been the only one to visit her.
His cousin died a few years later from the same disease. That time, no one had gone to see him, as much as they'd wanted to. They couldn't risk losing more of their family, they were broken enough already. Some more than others.
Let's just say, Pete got in a few fights.

Personality: Harriet is a positive girl. She understands their situation is awful - the hunger and danger - but she also understands it could be a lot worse. Could you imagine being one of the Capitol, not just getting but expecting everything to be handed to you? Finding joy in others' pain? How horrid it must be to live with a mind like that. At least in poorness, they share gratefulness and genuine compassion.
She devotes her life to making others happier, singing for people in the square and dancing, teaching others the words and movements too. She once attempted to make a guitar from discarded wood and shoe laces, after having watched someone from the Capitol play one on a screen. It didn't really work, but it entertained people nonetheless.
Helping to run clubs and workshops, she rarely had time for a paying job, but she made it work at her closest bakery on four days a week for six hours each.
Cheering people up was her only real goal and she always had a genuine smile on her face - unless having a serious sad-talk with someone. She listened honestly to people's stresses and put a positive spin on them, though not everyone went to her for that, obviously.
When she was reaped, she could have sworn a wave of sadness rippled over half the crowd. Which only made her more confident when she got to the stage and turned to sing to the people instead of cry. She finished her song with her catch phrase of 'keep smiling'.
Like I say, that's what she took her purpose to be.

Backstory: Harriet grew up in an average household and worked as everyone else had to. As a child, she'd been carefree and happy, bouncing around. Though she wasn't oblivious. She was quick to realise something wasn't right in this world she'd been born into and she never quite grew to understand why. Sure, life seemed to be against them, but the fact that it existed was something to celebrate, was it not? Over the years of her childhood, she discovered her gift for making people smile. There were always those who wouldn't, but she told herself 'they'll just take longer'.
A smile was the most powerful thing one could wield, because it's natural purity is enough to make anyone stop and think.
She played with her sister and danced with her friends, making up lines she'd later be singing through town.
