4. What are their motivations and goals? How does this affect their behavior and others around them? Who and what throughout the story alters or changes their perceptions?
1: 1's goal is to be a good owl and do no harm to others, along with being a good friend to 3. They are motivated by their personal beliefs and defiance of their parents. They behave rather caring towards owls they don't think have done any wrong, especially young owlets. But due to fiercely following these beliefs they have a black and white view on morals and actions, and always antagonize owls that they believe are bad. 3 sees how harmful this can be to others and 1 themself and keeps trying to help 1 with their black and white views. It's safe to say that this will take a while, due to 1's natural stubbornness and their determined defiance of being like their parents amplifies the challenge, but there could be hope for them.
2: 2's goal is to be kind and abandon his past as a pure one, and to also be perfect. He is motivated by his former friend, a Pygmy owl, and 3 to be better, along with how much he wants to prove everyone who has judged him so far wrong, especially 1. Due to being raised by the pure ones he always pressured himself to be perfect, even when he was at his limit, he still feels the need to be perfect but for different reasons. He wants to show that he can be useful to the group, but doesn't think that he's useful enough and feels that he must be perfect. He usually acts kind but can seem to be a show off whenever he tries to show how useful he can be. Other owls tend to have a positive opinion of him but whenever they judge him for being raised as a pure one he can get defensive and that usually ends with a bitter argument. His first friend motivated him to run away from the pure ones, leading to his meeting of 3. And 3 is currently trying to help him with his perfectionism. He seems to be making steady progress, though still struggles with his problem quite a lot.
3: 3's goal is to be a Guardian at the Great tree, but will first focus on her friends' issues. Her main motivations are her interests in helping others and her wish to meet more owls and possibly make more friends. Because she wants to be a Guardian and is also a naturally kind owl she tries to help others to the best of her abilities, usually leaving a good impact on anyone she meets. While her mentor was quite stoic most of the time, he did always tell her legends of the Guardians. When he died she decided to stay in the hollow for a few days before she would fly to the Great tree. But she ended up staying even longer due to gaining her first two friends, they both had some issues that needed improvement so she decided to stay until they were resolved. She cares first and foremost about her friends rather than being a Guardian.
