Your eye is doing the thing again
Donavan's POV
I could hear the rushing water of the river up ahead. I brushed my tail against the wall of rock beside me. It led up into a cliff along with a few other hills beside it. A river connected them all as it ran strong below them. Smokey squeaked in excitement and ran towards the noisy river. "Come on, big bro! You said we'd be there in time to watch the sunset!" She called back to me.
I purred and sped up a little to catch up. She happily dashed to the water's edge and took a quick drink before looking up at the sky. The sun was starting to set and she sat by down.
"Come back over here. I don't want you sitting right under that cliff where a rock could fall." I said, starring up at the overhang. She hissed at me and just scooted a little away from the bottom of the cliff.
I shook my head at her but ignored her as the setting sun turned the sky red. Smokey squealed and turned to me and dropped her smile. "Your eye's doing he thing again." She said. "What do you mean?" I asked.
"The twitchy thing." She said and gestured to her eye, twitching it in demonstration. When she said it, I felt the scars on my eyelids flare up. I rubbed at it a bit before looking back at her. Her shadow climbed up the wall of rocks and took the form of my friend.
It stared back at me, torn chunks of it missing. It crept over Smokey as if to grab her. "Why are you all tensed up? You look like you've seen a ghost." She said. I shook my head and turned away from her.
"I'm going back to the den. Don't stay too much longer. Wash in the river so your scent doesn't trail, too." I said and jogged along the riverside. A harsh gust of wind made me pause just so I didn't fall over. "Oh, OK. See you back at the den, I guess." Smokey said, disappointed.
I picked up the pace as I felt something biting at the back of my legs. I could've sworn I heard a dog growling but kept my eyes forward. When I finally reached the safety of my den, I took a deep breath to calm down. I heard Smokey's laughter outside.
"You can't touch her, Kelly. She has nothing to do with this. If you're doing this to hurt me, it won't work. So just show yourself and let's settle this here and now!" I hissed and waited.
She never showed up.
