Who wins in a battle: the bull or the lion?
Azrun's POV:
I huffed and nervously pawed at the ground. Angel laughed and nudged me in the side. "What are you do nervous about, Az? It's just training and you guys spar all the time. Besides, you're basically as bug as her! You have at least a 50% chance of winning." He said, trying to make me feel better.
I just groaned. "I've won against her in a few other practices but only after feeling like I was thrown through 10 walls. And I'm nervous because this fight will decide my position in battles. You'll be cheering me on, right?" I said bending down to his height. "Of course, bro! like always."
I smiled at him as we came up to the empty field where Lightning already was. "Hey boys! You want a few minutes to get ready, Azrun?" She asked and I nodded. I used this time to stretch, sharpen my hooves and horns, practice my bucking. When I looked over to Lightning, I saw her doing similar training.
Finally, we faced each other. Without warning, Lightning darted at me. I barely had time to rear up to keep her from slashing my face. She used this opening to knock me off my back hooves. I quickly retaliated and struck out with my front hooves, catching her in her thigh.
She jumped back and I stood up as quickly as possible. When she charged at me again, I was ready. I dropped my head, braced my shoulders, and charged at her. I felt the connect as I hit her. She recovered and jumped on my back despite being disoriented.
I felt her sink her claws and teeth into my shoulders and flank. I decided to save my energy and rolled onto my back to try and shake her off. She grunted under my weight and bite into my ear as she reached around to claw at my neck.
I rolled off of her to get away from her claws. I turned my back to her and acted as if I was going to buck her. This got the reaction I wanted as she backed up to escape my hooves. I instead swung my tail at her and nailed her in the shoulder.
She retreated to regroup. I made a show of swinging my tail with my head down and my eyes on her. She smirked and charged at me again. I tried to buck her but she evaded and latched onto my flank. I tried my tail one more time but ended up hitting myself as she dodged.
I took off towards a tree to try and slam her against it. She jumped off at the last second so I ended up slamming myself into the tree. I fell and she used this moment to get some hits in. She would dart at me, claw or bite me, dart away, before repeating the attack from a different angle.
Before I could get up, she slashed my face and blinded me with my blood. I stood up and struck out with everything I had. "Azrun! Calm down!" I heard Angel whisper from the sidelines. I tried to pause but that gave Lightning an opening to knock me off my feet again. This time I felt my hoof connect with her but I couldn't tell where. She got off me with a screech of pain as I tried to get my senses together. I heard her softly growling. From what I could hear, she was circling me.
Suddenly I heard her paws rushing towards me. I reared up and slammed my hooves down, successfully pinning her under me. She dug her claws into my chest and shoulders before chuffing happily.
"Welcome to the clan, solider. Serve us well." She said. I quickly got off her as she detached her claws. I widened my eyes in surprise and happiness but quickly shut them when blood almost seeped in.
Lightning laughed as she started to clean my wounds. Angel bounced over, trilling happily. "I told you! I told you and you didn't believe me even though I'm always right!" He excitedly said. "If you're always right, how did you fail your herb and hunting assignments?" I snorted and Lightning chuffed.
"Uh, you know I gotta go. Uh I said I'd hang out with somebody today. See y'all later!" He said and dashed off.
"Congratulations, antlers. Now let's go tell everyone else before Angel spills it. You know he can't keep his mouth shut." Lightning chuckled and we trotted off the camp.
