Young and In Love
So lately I've been having an obsession with hyperpop dark-skinned guys and kids/teens from the 20th century. Well this is more about the 20th century kids-
I had an idea that's wholesome and cute while still dealing with tough themes such as homophobia, racism, and war. This is about two boys from the 1940s. One boy is an African American boy named Lewis Harp, who is 5-10 years old and wants to be an artist. The other is a white boy named Harvey Hill, who is around Lewis's age and wants to be a radio host. Now I wanted to try to make this as realistic as a I can without being too realistic and still wholesome and cute. So obviously the two are gonna deal with problems mainly racism and homophobia. Harvey's father is extremely religious and is one of the people who believe that African Americans are destined to be in hell and such, same with gay people. While his mother is indifferent towards African Americans and gay people, his dad would go out of his way to beat some poor black dude or gay guy up if given the opportunity. His behavior influences Harvey to believe that he is a horrible person for liking someone like Lewis and it causes them to have some obstacles in their young relationship. Lewis's family isn't racist but extremely homophobic so you can guess how that goes for him. Now I do think these are some heavy problems for little kids to be dealing with (even though this has probably happened to kids before) so I might make them more subtle in some parts of their story and not-so-subtle in other parts. Ex: Harvey's dad catches him looking at Lewis and his family, so he drags him away without a word. "You'll go to hell if you hang around with boys like him," Lewis's father spoke.
Regardless of these deeper themes, my main idea was for two vintage boys to fall in love and go on adorable adventures together. So a lot of their story will be them having fun and such.
