[A/N] Yes I know I have FTE's and edits to the first few parts to do. If I don't write what I want, I'll wind up not writing at all, so BAM, time to unearth this relic and make it all shiny and new.

Vampire mechanics:
1. Vampires require blood or blood substitute to stay physically healthy. Blood-vegans— those who choose to only drink substitute— have slightly weaker immune systems and get fatigued quicker.
2. They can drain or turn people. To drain is to drink someone's blood without transforming them into vampires. This leaves them feeling weak for a while. To turn someone is to make them a vampire. They very specifically have to bite the neck to turn someone (and if they bite the neck, they turn the person, regardless of whether they mean to or not).
3. The children of vampires are born vampires without needing to be turned.
4. Vampires do not need to sleep or eat, but they can choose to.
5. Each vampire gets a special power called a Blood Talent that relates to their personality, skills, and/or desires. Blood Talents are meant to boost their hosts' survivability.
6. The sun does burn them, but it's more damage-over-time style than instantly-dead style. Stakes still kill them. Garlic isn't lethal. It's more like a universal mild allergic reaction. They age at a normal rate, and can show up in pictures, videos, and mirrors.
7. The smell of exposed blood compels vampires to drink more or bite someone. This is called Bloodlust. It can be fought against, and some vampires experience it more intensely than others.
8. Vampires can sniff out other vampires after a while as long as they're in close proximity. They can also tell which humans are low in nutrients so they can avoid drinking from them. Humans are less perceptive; they can only really tell vampires from appearance, which can be masked by certain blood talents.
9. Vampire Hunters are a very specific type of vigilante. They aren't illegal, but they also aren't exactly sanctioned by the government (and aren't funded by them). They have varying techniques. They tend to use traps, trickery, and tools. Some are more upfront and brash than others.
10. Not ALL the LDOD cast are vampires. Some are humans with varying levels of exposure to vampire culture/activities, and a few are even vampire hunters. It will become clear who is who over time.
