I feel like part of the reason why Valeria feels so responsible for Althea isn't just because they're both runaways but because Valeria feels that her sister (Naomi) (originally Nancy but I decided to change it) spent so much of her time looking out for Val before she moved away and Valeria feels that she has to pay it forward in some way
