Children of the New Order started out like any ordinary church, but as membership grew, members started to be isolated from their families and friends, with the most loyal ones eventually moving to the compound with lucian lyons, the leader of the 'church'. the anson family were loyal followers.

jason and samantha were both born on the compound, and baptised by lucian shortly after birth. during their childhood, lucian started to become more paranoid, and started to become more controlling (and more violent) to those living on the compound.

slowly, it became less of a church and more of a delusional training camp on how to "defend their values" from any outsiders that would never be able to understand.

when samantha was 7 and jason was 10, lucian killed the owner of a shop while trying to purchase a gun with a fake id. this is the first murder committed by the cult that samantha knows of (because every other witness is dead), but from the attitudes of everyone else, it didn't seem to be the first they knew of.

jason and samantha were the only people to escape, and samantha is the only living survivor.

when samantha was 22, they contacted the FBI with a tip about the cult. while jason was alive, him and samantha tried to draw up a proper map of the compound and its weaknesses, but it mysteriously disappeared from their apartment after his death.

samantha came forward with her story of growing up in the compound, and since they had no better lead on the case, when the FBI started a siege on the group, samantha was sent in as a consultant and negotiator.

the siege ended in the deaths of most of the remaining members, including samantha's parents and lucian lyons, as they refused to surrender. most of the survivors were children, who were now orphaned. these children are now somewhere in the foster care system, and many of them are too young to remember the life they had in the compound.

samantha is now a private investigator, working alongside the law enforcement agencies they were raised to hate.
